203: The amazing and mysterious underwater world
Once the tow ropes from over a dozen large trucks were attached to the deep-sea submarine, they began driving towards the ocean.
Although wooden tracks are the oldest method of transporting ships, they have never become obsolete.
As it rolled continuously, it carried the deep-sea submarine forward, forward. Thirty minutes later, the large trucks stopped, because at this point they were only ten meters from the ocean.
This ten-meter distance to the ocean was the most challenging part, because the trucks could no longer pull the deep-sea submarine forward from the front; they could only push from behind.
Niu De came up with an excellent plan. He had people find over thirty cranes, which surrounded the deep-sea submarine. They lifted it up and slid it ten meters along the wooden tracks, then gently placed it on the surface of the water in the middle of the newly constructed special dock.
On both sides of the dock were two-hundred-meter guardrails, which could keep the deep-sea submarine within a safe area and prevent it from drifting away from the dock.
Liu Xiaolin had long ago recruited a group of retired submarine drivers. They had rich experience driving military submarines and had also provided many good opinions and suggestions during the research and development process, so they were already very familiar with this deep-sea submarine.
"For safety's sake, General Manager Liu, perhaps you shouldn't go down this time," Niu De attempted to stop Liu Xiaolin, who was eager to go down.
"Every step of ours has undergone safety testing, and every data point perfectly matches the design blueprints. Are there any safety hazards left? Are you that lacking in confidence?" Liu Xiaolin said with a shrug.
"It's not that I lack confidence," Niu De continued to persuade, "I just think that as the General Manager, there's no need for you to personally handle everything. You need to be the one in control of the overall situation; things on the ground won't work without you either."
"Things on the ground won't work without me? Are you kidding me? I think things on the ground truly won't work without you, but without me, there's no impact at all," Liu Xiaolin argued.
"Why won't you listen to advice?" Niu De became a little anxious.
"You know I don't listen to advice, so stop trying to persuade me. I'm done talking; I'm going down into the submarine now," Liu Xiaolin said, breaking free from Niu De's grip on his hand, and followed the submarine drivers down into the deep-sea submarine.
First, he walked into the cockpit. This is where all the operating systems for the entire submarine are located: surfacing, diving, underwater balance, maintaining course, changing course, maintaining depth, changing depth, self-defense, deep-sea navigation, communication with the Ground Command Center, and so on. All operations are performed here. Since operations are conducted underwater, voice control was abandoned in favor of traditional button controls to prevent system issues from causing malfunctions due to delayed instruction reception.
Liu Xiaolin then walked further back and arrived at the living quarters. This area is very spacious and can accommodate forty people for living and resting in private spaces simultaneously. Living facilities are installed here, primarily including an air regeneration system, air control system, pollutant source detection system, and constant temperature system, as well as facilities for daily life such as food, drinking water, lighting, and medical supplies. This will be the resting place for tourists when underwater tourism is launched in the future.
Further back is the storage compartment. Life-saving equipment and distress marker buoys are stored here, and an emergency drainage system is also installed. If the submarine encounters a problem, water from the ballast tanks can be quickly drained through the emergency drainage system to surface and achieve self-rescue.
After Liu Xiaolin took a look around, he returned to the cockpit. www.x33xs.com
"Let's test the communication system and contact the Ground Command Center," Liu Xiaolin said.
"Okay, I will contact the Ground Command Center immediately," Driver A replied.
"This is Explorer II, calling the Ground Command Center, calling the Ground Command Center. Over."
"This is the Ground Command Center. Has the driver performed a system check on Explorer II? Over."
"This is Explorer II. I have completed system checks on the deep-sea submarine and request permission to dive. Over."
"This is the Ground Command Center. Permission granted for Explorer II to begin diving. Over."
After receiving the instruction from the Ground Command Center, Driver B pressed the dive button.
The deep-sea submarine began its descent. Liu Xiaolin watched the data on the dashboard: 10 meters, 100 meters, 500 meters, 800 meters... 1500 meters.
The external lights of the deep-sea submarine were constantly on, and the omnidirectional external cameras displayed the outside scenes on the monitoring screens.
The previously pitch-black seabed now had some light due to the submarine's illumination, and the creatures of the deep could be seen still swimming around leisurely.
The blobfish, with its mournful face, is too ugly, but despite its appearance, it can very easily float from the deep sea to the surface.
The frilled shark is a living fossil among fish. Its characteristic feature is that its six pairs of gills grow externally, looking like a frilled necklace around its neck.
The Dumbo octopus has very large fins, which are what allow it to swim so quickly. This 1500-meter depth is actually a bit high for it; normally, it prefers to live in the deep sea at 4000 meters.
Suddenly, a Ghost Shark swam over and filled the screen, startling Liu Xiaolin. This creature has a ghost-like face, which is particularly frightening, and its body is large, with a length of over one meter to two meters, enough to deter intruders.
Just as the Ghost Shark swam away, another little fellow arrived - the Sea Pig. The Sea Pig is only fifteen centimeters long. It's an echinoderm and always lies on the seabed feeding on the remains of marine organisms.
There were also Atlantic Wolffish, Anglerfish, Red-lipped Batfish, Goblin Sharks, Vampire Squid, Dragonfish, and so on. These deep-sea marine creatures live on the pitch-black seabed and share a common characteristic: most are very fierce.
Liu Xiaolin's eyes widened as he watched these underwater creatures swimming around, and he exclaimed with great emotion, "The mysterious ocean world! We humans still know too little about it!"
Driver A, who was beside him, said with a smile, "The seabed is a world that is both familiar and strange to humans. There are countless biological species here. Perhaps in the future, humans will focus their research and development on the underwater world."
"Yes, the underwater world is too interesting. I am full of curiosity about its mystery," Liu Xiaolin said, looking at the many marine creatures on the screen that he didn't recognize. "Can these images of ours be automatically saved? I'm thinking that later, I can send the images of these unknown creatures to the Institute of Marine Biology so they can see and learn about the marine life here."
"They are all automatically saved, so of course, they can be sent to them for scientific research," Driver B said.
They had experienced many explorations of the underwater world, so they were accustomed to Liu Xiaolin's expression of surprise. When they first dived into the deep sea, they were also this amazed, but now it was nothing unusual to them.
