6: Chapter 6 Midnight Sleepwalking: My Blanket Has Come to Life

Jiang You had a very fulfilling day.

He ate his fill, took a nap, bought a drop-resistant Nokia at a phone shop, and borrowed some cement from the renovation crew next door to patch up his broken window.

As for the "performance artist" hanging from the streetlamp, word was he was delirious when the patrol team rescued him, muttering nonsense about hangers, socks, and devils, and was eventually sent to a mental hospital.

Everyone said he had gone crazy from practicing martial arts.

Jiang You expressed sympathy for this and decided he must lock his door when sleeping from now on; there were too many perverts these days, what if one broke in at midnight to steal his newly bought Nokia?

Night fell.

Jiang City was shrouded in neon lights, and the roars of beasts from the distant wilderness were faintly audible.

Jiang You finished washing up early, changed into a loose cotton pajama set, and lay down on his newly bought soft bed.

"Comfortable."

"This is what life is about. Fighting and killing is so unrefined, nothing beats lying down."

He adjusted to his most comfortable starfish sleeping position, pulled up the quilt, even carefully tucked in the corners, and closed his eyes peacefully.

In less than three minutes, steady, long breathing sounds began.

Jiang You was asleep.

However, for his body, the wild nightlife had only just begun.

[Internal Chat Group]

[Brain]:

"Host consciousness disconnected. Takeover protocol initiated."

"Tonight's objective: S-Rank Forbidden Zone, Thunder Ruins."

"Distance: One hundred kilometers. Estimated time: One hour."

"Mission: Scavenge... no, collect all high-energy objects."

"All units, prepare."

[Legs]:

"Ready long ago! To prepare for tonight's long-distance run, I specially intercepted the energy from the two catties of beef the host had for dinner; now I feel terrifyingly strong! Whether it's Thunder-Struck Wood or Plasma Berries, I want them all!"

[Skin]:

"Wait, it's windy outside, and there are mosquitoes. Going out directly in pajamas is too undignified, and pajamas aren't windproof, which could easily scratch my delicate cuticle. I refuse to advance in a 'streaking' manner."

[Brain]:

"Request granted. Right Hand, go to the wardrobe and find something wearable."

In the darkness, Jiang You, who had been fast asleep, suddenly sat up straight.

Although his eyes were tightly shut, his movements were exceptionally precise and agile. He walked barefoot to the simple cloth wardrobe and skillfully pulled the zipper.

He rummaged through the wardrobe for a while, disdainfully tossed aside his jeans and shirts, and finally unearthed an outfit prepared for Halloween.

A black hooded trench coat and a Faceless Man mask that only revealed his eyes.

[Right Hand]:

"This set is good! The trench coat has many pockets, can hold cargo. This mask looks professional, full of the mystery of an expert."

[Legs]:

"Stop stalling! My great blade... no, my soles are already hungry and impatient!"

After the rustling sounds of dressing.

A strange figure wearing a black trench coat and a white mask stood before the window.

The hem of the trench coat hung down to his calves, the hood was pulled over his head, and his whole person exuded a strange and murderous aura.

[Brain]:

"Activate Silent Mode. Heart, reduce pulse frequency. Lungs, switch to internal respiratory cycle."

The next second.

Jiang You leaped down directly from the third floor just like a black ghost.

Landing without a sound.

Not even raising the dust on the ground.

"Whoosh—"

A black shadow streaked through the night, leaving an afterimage, and vanished at the end of the street in an instant.

...

Outside the city, on the edge of the Thunder Ruins.

This was a forbidden zone for humans, barren for a hundred miles, shrouded year-round under thick, purple thunderclouds.

The air was filled with a pungent smell of ozone and burnt matter, and the ground presented an eerie black-red color—the marks left after being struck by lightning for countless years.

Even on the periphery, the stray lightning arcs in the air could paralyze an ordinary person.

At this moment, an elite expedition team called "Falcon" was struggling to advance on the outskirts.

The captain, "Old Hei," was a burly man with a full beard, holding a heavy alloy shield half a person tall, with blue electric arcs flashing across the surface from time to time.

"Everyone be careful! Turn the power of the anti-electric suits to the maximum!"

Old Hei panted heavily, his voice hoarse: "Today's thunder elements are too violent, my shield's coating is about to give out!"

The team members behind him were all pale, carefully stepping in the footprints of the person in front, terrified of attracting the lightning from the sky.

"Captain, the detector shows the thunder magnetic field concentration ahead is off the charts, and there's a Tier 2 peak Thunder Storm Bear active. Should we retreat?"

"Retreat my ass! The commission for this mission is five hundred thousand; we're leaving once we get the Thunder-Struck Wood!" Old Hei gritted his teeth and roared.

Just then.

A strange sound came from behind them, like a high-speed train approaching.

"What is that?"

Old Hei turned around abruptly, raising his shield to defend, "Enemy attack?"

Before he could see clearly, a figure in a black hooded trench coat drifted past them through the minefield as if strolling through his own backyard.

What terrified the Falcon team the most was that the black-clad person had taken no defensive measures whatsoever.

He wasn't even wearing an anti-electric suit!

"Boom!"

Seemingly provoked by the black-clad person's speed, a purple lightning bolt as thick as a wrist suddenly struck down from the sky, carrying an aura of destruction, smashing straight onto the person's head.

"It's over! This guy is going to turn into charcoal!" A team member couldn't help but close his eyes.

However, the expected screams and the smell of burning flesh did not appear.

That lightning, which would have severely injured a Tier 2 martial artist, hit the black-clad person and seemed like a drop of water falling into a sponge.

Zzz—

The current instantly drilled into the person's body along the trench coat.

The black-clad person didn't even pause his steps; instead, he seemed recharged, shook his shoulders comfortably, and his speed visibly increased by another notch!

In the wind, the voice of that black-clad person could be faintly heard, but what puzzled everyone was that the voice didn't sound like it was spoken, but rather like ventriloquism: "Refreshing!"

The entire Falcon team was petrified.

The shield in Old Hei's hand clattered to the ground.

"Am... am I seeing things?"

"That's tens of thousands of volts of high-voltage electricity! He's using it to take a shower?"

Before they could recover from the shock, the charred bushes ahead suddenly exploded.

Roar!!!

A deafening roar sounded.

A giant bear, three meters tall and wreathed in blue electric light, stood up on its hind Legs.

That was a Tier 2 peak demonic beast—a Thunder Storm Bear!

It waved its millstone-sized bear paw, carrying the sound of wind and thunder, and slammed it fiercely at the black-clad little guy who had intruded into its territory.

"Careful! It's the Bear King!" Old Hei shouted subconsciously.

The black-clad figure didn't slow down at all.

Facing the oncoming giant bear, he just casually raised a palm.

"Slap!"

Just like swatting a mosquito.

That terrifying Tier 2 Thunder Storm Bear didn't even have time to scream before its head was driven into its chest cavity by this slap.

The massive body flew out like a broken rag doll for over ten meters, breaking three large trees before stopping.

The black-clad person didn't even look, didn't even pause his steps, just reached out as he passed the bear carcass.

A beast core flashing with thunder light appeared in his hand, then he stuffed it directly into his mouth and chewed it up with a "crunch."

After dealing with the Bear King, the black-clad person suddenly stopped.

He seemed to sense something; his gaze from under the mask turned toward the depths of the ruins, that core area wrapped in red lightning, a death zone that even grandmaster-level powerhouses dared not easily tread.

The body under the trench coat trembled slightly; that was excitement.

"Big haul... there's a big haul inside..."

The low, greedy mutter floated on the wind to Old Hei's ears.

The next second.

The ground under the black-clad person's feet instantly exploded, and he turned into a black lightning bolt, charging into that sea of red thunder without hesitation.

Leaving only the Falcon team standing there, watching that back disappearing into the death forbidden zone, unable to move for a long time.

Old Hei swallowed, picked up his shield, his voice floating:

"Let's... let's go home. This place is too perverted, it's not a place for humans."

"I'm selling this broken shield tomorrow, I'm going to find a factory to screw bolts!"
