146: His demands
Tu Nan was silent for a moment.
She suspected that Kong Jiamu hadn't told the person in front of her anything at all, simply dumping all the difficult problems onto her.
So, it had to be said that the peacock's reliability was very lopsided... it only manifested in military matters.
"...I am not."
As she said this, she noticed there was only one small suitcase at Sophia's feet.
"Is this all your luggage? Come, have something to drink and rest a bit. Shall I have someone help you take your things up? You can see which room you like in a moment."
Tu Nan turned back, preparing to call Lance to help take the luggage to the room next door first.
But she saw Lance standing on the stairs, gripping the railing, not having followed up at all.
Tu Nan's question was practically written all over her face.
Given Lance's nature of cherishing the fairer sex, how could he not be crowding around such a beauty?
Lance looked at the sky, looked at the ground, but simply refused to look at Tu Nan.
Behind her, Sophia was still asking.
"Is this Colonel Kong's home?"
Tu Nan realized she had to explain this matter clearly first.
"Sophia, come, let's sit down and talk slowly." She led Sophia to the living room to sit down.
Even Sophia's movements as she sat down were light and lovely.
"Your original guardian was named Tang Jun, right?"
Tu Nan gathered her thoughts; that Tang Jun wanted to entrust Sophia to someone else at the very end of his life, so it was clear there was a deep bond between them.
But as a Foster Mother, Sophia had the anxiety of being bought, sold, and passed around, and didn't dare to show her feelings... just thinking about it felt very tragic.
Sophia nodded obediently.
"Well... he ran into some trouble and couldn't continue to take care of you, so he asked his superior, Kong Jiamu, to help look after you."
Tu Nan wanted to suppress the news of Tang Jun's death for a few days, waiting for a chance to tell her after she got familiar with Sophia.
"But that's just how you Male Beasts do things—so crude. Well... Kong Jiamu just bought you directly. Mainly because, as you know, without a definite status, he couldn't take care of you properly."
"But he's still flying in the sky right now, so he entrusted me to take care of you."
"Is that so..." Sophia blinked, as if she understood what she said.
"On the way, I heard them say that I was supposed to be sent to Colonel Kong's house, but looking at this place... it doesn't seem to be it?"
This house was too simple and cozy, and it didn't seem to fit Kong Jiamu's status at all.
Tu Nan nodded.
"This is my home, oh, my and Lance's home." She pointed at Lance, and perhaps because of Lance's strange attitude, she didn't mention that Lance was a Female Beast.
Better to let Lance introduce himself.
Tu Nan held Sophia's hand, trying to give her support and strength.
"I thought you would be scared staying alone at Colonel Kong's place, so I suggested he send you to me. Feel free to relax here, don't think about anything, and just settle in and get used to things first. We can discuss anything else later."
Sophia gently pulled her hand back, looking at Tu Nan with confusion.
"But as a Foster Mother, isn't my most important task to help a Male Beast have Children? Colonel Kong is my master; how can I not be by his side?"
She furrowed her brows, looking extremely pitiful.
"Why are you trying to stop me?" Her tone was soft, but her words were clearly questioning Tu Nan.
Tu Nan... felt she had thought wrong.
Lowering her eyes to think for a moment, she asked.
"Did anyone mention Tang Jun to you on the way?"
Sophia shook her head innocently and asked in return: "Didn't you just say he ran into some trouble?"
"What kind of trouble? Have you guessed?"
"Hmm..." Sophia tilted her head, thought for a moment, and still guessed gently.
"Did he die?"
Tu Nan noticed her tone didn't change at all; she was very calm and still looked so pure and beautiful.
Unlike what she had assumed, this Sophia didn't feel any sadness over Tang Jun's departure.
So, was all of this just Tang Jun's unrequited love?
Tu Nan didn't judge; a Foster Mother had no choice.
She nodded and decided to just be blunt. "Yes, he was on a mission with Colonel Kong and died in the line of duty. That's why he entrusted you to Colonel Kong."
Sophia sighed softly and cutely.
Without saying another word about Tang Jun's death, she only cared about Kong Jiamu.
"Then can you send me to Colonel Kong now? I don't need you to take care of me~ Send me to my master, okay~"
She acted coquettishly towards Tu Nan.
It seemed she didn't need any extra care, and Tang Jun's entrustment seemed completely unnecessary.
Tu Nan told her very politely: "Then I will help you relay this to Kong Jiamu; after all... the matter he entrusted to me has changed."
"Then I'll leave it to you." Sophia stood up, walked back to the door, and picked up the luggage herself.
"Then where will I stay tonight?" she asked.
Tu Nan smiled and said: "The building next door is also ours. I'll take you over; you can choose any room you like."
Lance quickly dashed over from the stairs and pushed the door open. "I'll do it, I'll do it. I'm familiar with that side, I'll take her. You go back to your phone call."
Tu Nan thought she probably knew why Lance's attitude towards this Sophia was so strange.
Presumably, before going upstairs to call her, he had already figured out the mindset of this traditional Foster Mother.
He must have been getting a headache for Tu Nan.
Silly Lance, Tu Nan revealed a fleeting smile.
Kong Jiamu and she weren't really a couple; would she feel jealous or uneasy about this?
Everyone has their own pursuits; as long as they don't step on her toes, she didn't care what these Female Beasts were thinking.
It was just a pity... she had thought she might run into another Ji Yu, or another Lance.
She had thought too much. A Foster Mother was just an identity, and being a cute and interesting person actually had no necessary connection to that identity.
* * *
But for the time being, Tu Nan was destined to stand between Sophia and Kong Jiamu; she truly had reasons she had to do so.
"In short... she means that you, as the master, need to take responsibility."
Tu Nan still relayed Sophia's request.
In her view, at this juncture, Kong Jiamu wouldn't have any thoughts about Sophia. After all, his comrade's body was not yet cold.
And he... was indeed a person with military spirit.
As expected, Kong Jiamu's head was pounding.
"Sigh! Female Beasts!" He pressed his fingers against his temples, complaining. "A Foster Mother really has an empty head, with only childbirth on her mind."
Tu Nan really wanted to reach through the video call and beat up this Male Beast.
"What's wrong with Female Beasts?" She lifted her chin, pretending to retort with three parts truth and seven parts fake. "I'm also a Female Beast, and I quite like Children too. Look at Miao Miao, isn't she cute? Ao Ao is also quite good."
Kong Jiamu begged for mercy.
"I said the wrong thing. But you are naturally different, you see..." He thought for a moment, "Being a Female Beast is such a waste for you."
This was truly an arrogant compliment.
Tu Nan glanced at him with a smile, "What, if I were a Male Beast, could you still handle it?"
Kong Jiamu shivered all over just thinking about it.
"My dear, don't say such scary things..." he said,
"Alright, wait until I come back and find a separate place for her. Sigh... Tang Jun was really blind."
"You even went out of your way to move out; see, she doesn't appreciate it." He snorted coldly and made a willful request.
"I estimate I'll reach the port in three more days. Let's do this: I'll send you the time in advance, and you have to come to the port to pick me up."
Kong Jiamu's peach-blossom eyes kept shooting electric sparks at Tu Nan.
"Don't you miss me? Hmm?"
Tu Nan couldn't refuse.
She left Kong Jiamu with a seductive, charming smile and hung up the phone just like that.
She couldn't let him be dissatisfied, and she didn't want to run into Sergeant Song Jie.
Let her think, what to do.
