240: Speed is of the essence in war
Shou? Did The Emperor want him to carry out this scouting mission?
The Silver Armored Knight walked up to The Emperor and waited.
"I have a special mission; I need someone to scout a Star Worm Point," The Emperor said, thinking as he made the arrangements. "Five people, you will be the team leader."
"Go inside and try to find a special path. If there isn't one, come back."
"It's a bit dangerous, but it's very important to the Empire."
Shou didn't say a word. His armor turned at a very subtle angle, looking in the direction where Tu Nan was.
The Emperor noticed.
Tu Nan frowned. "Your Majesty! Sir Shou is your knight. Is it really appropriate for him to carry out this kind of mission?"
Guarding and scouting were two completely different Domains.
Since this mission started with her, she naturally hoped for a more suitable candidate to execute it.
"He is very suitable," The Emperor replied. "We found a substance that Star Worms loathe, but there is very little of it. We only made five sets of Soft Armor. Unfortunately, even wearing this Soft Armor only allows beastmen below A-rank to be ignored by the Star Worms."
"But Shou is an A-rank!" Wasn't that a contradiction?
The Emperor let out a soft laugh. He looked coldly at the knight before him, who hadn't immediately accepted the mission yet.
Was this the attitude of a knight?
"Do you want to go? This matter is not only important to the Empire, but also quite important to her Children. Otherwise, I'll let Tu Nan beg you herself."
"Your Majesty!"
Tu Nan stopped The Emperor. Why would he mention the Children? The fewer people who knew about that matter, the better.
But what was puzzling was that the knight seemed to be activated instantly.
"The... Children?"
Tu Nan knew he liked Children very much, so she wasn't too surprised by his focus.
"Yes, I have Two Children in the Capital City; they are also students of Your Majesty."
Since The Emperor had put it that way, she had no choice but to explain a bit. Tu Nan continued, "This matter is indeed related to the Children, but it's so sudden that you don't need to decide immediately. I think we should go over the plan in detail first before determining the right candidate."
Shou paused slightly, his gaze silently sweeping over Tu Nan as if confirming something. After a moment, he lowered his head.
"I'll go," Shou said.
The Emperor curled his lips. "No one is more suitable than him. His ability... well, it's the one among A-ranks that is least likely to be detected by Star Worms. Otherwise, why do you think he could become a Silver Armored Knight?"
Tu Nan was stunned for a moment. That was true.
"I see." She felt relieved. "Your Majesty's arrangements are indeed appropriate."
The Emperor didn't bother with her and began arranging things for Shou.
"Go and prepare. Form a task force; you can pick the right people yourself. Once a Star Worm Point at a suitable distance is discovered, you must be able to set out immediately."
"The supreme commander of this operation is me. Pay attention to reporting at any time. Go."
Shou didn't say anything else. He knelt on one knee and silently struck his left chest.
The armor pieces struck each other, making a crisp sound.
He accepted the mission.
Tu Nan watched Shou exit the command room.
She knew that this knight, along with the task force that was about to be formed, would soon rush to the "front line." They would infiltrate the ranks of the Star Worms.
Extreme risk, all because of a single sentence from her.
"What? Feeling guilty? Or do you think I shouldn't have sent Shou?" The Emperor asked her.
Tu Nan shook her head; that was exactly what she found strange.
"No, Your Majesty. This is something that must be done. Whoever does it will face this kind of risk. You just chose the right person."
Tu Nan analyzed her own heart. Her mood was steady and calm.
"Didn't you say that the person who makes the decision will bear the responsibility? Can I be in charge of this matter throughout? I am ready to bear everything. Of course, please remind me of anything I don't understand; I don't want them to pay for my recklessness."
The Emperor looked at the star map and nodded with satisfaction.
"Since you are prepared, then... of course you can."
***
The Emperor ordered the fleet to shake off the Star Worms and rejoin the main force.
When the two of them appeared on the flagship again, they were still exchanging opinions on this operation, mainly with Tu Nan asking questions incessantly.
"When they reach the Star Worm Point, the coordinates must be sent back accurately. I need to be able to give immediate feedback to Him."
Tu Nan thought for a moment and continued.
"With so many Star Worms around, is it inappropriate for there to only be five of them? What about backup? What about the fleet to clear the surrounding Star Worms? That should also be arranged."
"Mm, you're right. Continue." The Emperor didn't show much of a reaction.
"It would be even better if we could appropriately distract the Star Worms. Then, if the commander going could be..." Tu Nan thought for a moment and tilted her head.
"An S-rank would be more suitable."
She turned her head to look at The Emperor.
The Emperor just slowed his pace and continued walking side by side with her in the corridor.
"Yes. So, what do you think of this candidate?"
The two turned a corner. At the other end of the corridor, Kong Jiamu was walking toward them, looking preoccupied.
Hearing The Emperor's voice, he stood at attention reflexively.
"Your Majesty!"
Looking up, Tu Nan also came into his view. This peacock awkwardly looked away.
Tu Nan looked at the peacock for a while before answering The Emperor's previous question.
"Very suitable."
The peacock couldn't help but look up. Seeing Tu Nan scrutinizing him, he reflexively reached out to touch his hair.
Right... his shoulder was empty.
The hand in mid-air paused awkwardly for a moment before dropping.
The Emperor gave the order directly.
"Kong Jiamu!"
"Present!"
"Special operation. You will lead an entire formation to support the special task force in their Star Worm Point scouting mission. The goal is to successfully deliver them into the Star Worm Point, clear the surrounding Star Worms, and then provide backup after the scouting is finished."
"Yes!"
"Operation command: me." The Emperor narrowed his eyes and added, "And Tu Nan."
Kong Jiamu didn't react for a moment.
"Major General Kong, accept the order." The Emperor gave him no room for doubt.
"...Yes!"
Kong Jiamu accepted this strange mission.
"Move out immediately."
After saluting, Kong Jiamu had no choice but to run off quickly.
Her request was accepted by The Emperor just like that and issued as an imperial order. His promise was fulfilled almost instantly. Tu Nan took a deep breath; she was truly going to take on these responsibilities.
"He hasn't even figured out the ins and outs of this matter." Tu Nan dutifully offered her opinion. "Is it too vague to assign the mission like this?"
The Emperor taught her, "That depends on whether you need him to be the brain or the hand."
He continued forward at a leisurely pace.
"It doesn't matter. You can explain it to him on the way after he sets out. Speed is essential in war."
"I see."
But you weren't this 'speedy' when assigning missions before.
She clearly remembered that Long Jingyuan was someone willing to explain strategic goals and the significance of battle to his subordinates. His handling of orders was never this crude.
It seemed His Majesty really intended to let her handle this matter.
Tu Nan planned to have a good talk with Kong Jiamu so he could fully grasp her intentions without restricting his on-the-spot command authority as a front-line general.
From the moment she learned the truth of her Transmigration and the intention behind the System tasks, to telling His Majesty and pushing the plan forward...
All of this could be described as having absolutely no leisure time.
Keep going.
Push aside all the difficulties in front of her.
She was becoming increasingly clear about what she should do and what she could do.
