170: Competing for favor or making things worse?

Even for a noble like Hain, who valued his demeanor, his expression faltered for a moment.

He quickly composed his delight, stepped back, and watched Tu Nan press the button by the door.

Kong Jiamu's figure was instantly projected into his room, and his opening words were a critical hit.

"Oh dear, look at my cute Pearl, how come you have dark circles after just one day?"

He dragged out his tone flirtatiously, "Didn't sleep well last night? Were you thinking of me?"

Tu Nan was expressionless and glared at him fiercely.

"Shut up, I slept fine... Aren't you on a mission? I thought you had already discovered something."

Her apartment couldn't compare to the mansion of the Kong Family.

It was hard to say whether Hain could hear her calling from the next room.

Since that was the case, she figured it was better to lay everything out in the open, lest Kong Jiamu accidentally say something overly explicit... she had been careless.

The Peacock's mouth could conjure sweet words effortlessly.

Every sentence was a critical hit.

She finally entered the room, gently closed the door, and turned her gaze to the other person inside.

Without a sound, Hain had already prepared a cup of tea. Seeing Tu Nan look his way, his hand paused slightly.

Only then did Kong Jiamu notice... "Hain?" He was surprised. "Why are you in Pearl's room?" He mistook the room for a moment.

The two master bedrooms were decorated identically, and Tu Nan hadn't added anything extra to her side.

"...She is in my room," Hain corrected unhurriedly.

"?" What was this about? Kong Jiamu was momentarily stumped.

"Hain moved over," Tu Nan answered his question.

Kong Jiamu understood immediately.

"Oh dear! You've gone to trouble again," he said to Hain.

"It's no trouble, it's my duty," Hain replied quickly.

Tu Nan subtly glared at the Orca, signaling him not to "show off" like that.

The black and white marine brute pursed his lips slightly, lowered his head to drink his tea, and remained silent.

Kong Jiamu cleared his throat, his eyes bright, "I called because I wanted to tell you something. The day before yesterday, didn't you ask me to use the perfume? Hmm?"

"I guess... you're about to make a move," he said, smiling.

"See, I promised I'd use it yesterday, and luckily I didn't forget. Yesterday at the Starport, I sprayed half a bottle on myself and deliberately walked through the public hall instead of the VIP lounge."

This commitment to his word was reassuring, but given the situation yesterday... "You brought Sophia? So high-profile! Aren't you afraid of alerting the enemy?" Wasn't he supposed to be investigating?

Kong Jiamu was very confident.

"Don't worry, this is perfect. If I don't stir the grass, how will I startle the snake? I know what I'm doing. I've already had the local Military District send people to protect Tang Jun's family and his daughter. Relax."

"Alright, you don't need to worry about this. If I'm not mistaken, you want to borrow my reputation? Hmm?"

The Peacock raised an eyebrow. "Go ahead and use it. It's buy one, get one free."

"I saw yesterday that the doll's face was decent enough; appearing with me is sure to attract enough attention."

"You want to promote a product, and you lack attention, right? So, has the topic been hyped up today?"

He was very pleased with his business acumen.

So that was it. Tu Nan looked at him with new respect.

He truly deserved to be a member of the Kong Family.

"That's amazing!" Tu Nan was grateful. "I'm so busy today; eight new employees joined! I'll talk to Lance in a moment and push out our advertisement."

The advertisement had been ready for half a month, but they hadn't found the right time to launch it.

It seemed the time was ripe.

"Thank you so much! But please don't do this again, seriously, there's no need to take such risks."

Although the benefit would be huge, it would definitely increase the risk for Kong Jiamu's operation.

"Thank me for what? He's used to showing off; a little stir like this doesn't even register."

Hain interjected casually from the side, "Compared to his previous frivolous affairs, this is nothing."

"...Yes, I can handle it."

Kong Jiamu was forced to accept this strange compliment.

"Alright, hurry up. If you need my help, just ask."

Kong Jiamu looked at Tu Nan expectantly, hoping she would let him help more.

But Tu Nan only smiled.

So distant. The Peacock sighed inwardly.

But Tu Nan would eventually need to rely on him, for instance... "Oh, right."

"Just now, I already reported Sophia's matter to Your Majesty."

Kong Jiamu straightened his expression.

"Your Majesty takes this very seriously. He said if this isn't an isolated case, then high-level officials must be involved. But he told me to investigate freely; he won't go easy on anyone I find."

That's good. Tu Nan let out a small sigh of relief.

With Your Majesty making a statement, there was finally a ray of hope for the plight of Females in this world.

He truly didn't consider this a trivial matter.

"I certainly didn't bury your contribution." Kong Jiamu touched the brim of his Military Cap and gave Tu Nan a dashing salute.

"I reported to Your Majesty that you discovered this... and yes, that I was blind and didn't notice anything wrong." He snorted, not seeming to mind too much.

Anyway, he would make up for his oversight.

"Speaking of which, you truly are my lucky star. Otherwise, it's hard to say how this matter would have turned out..."

"Yes. Since I mentioned you, I took the opportunity to request an audience with Your Majesty for you."

He casually dropped the most important thing he had done for Tu Nan.

Tu Nan suddenly grew nervous.

Why so sudden? He... didn't seem to mention that Tu Nan requested it herself? Instead, he used his own status to ask Your Majesty for an opportunity?

"What did Your Majesty say?" This was very important to her.

"Interesting."

Kong Jiamu winked at her. Seeing that Tu Nan didn't understand, he smiled.

"Your Majesty said... 'Interesting.' That means he agreed."

He crossed his arms, waiting for Tu Nan's expression of surprise and gratitude.

But the tactless Hain interrupted him from the side.

"Is that so?" Hain still hadn't finished the cup of tea he'd been drinking for so long.

"What a coincidence, I also spoke to Your Majesty this afternoon."

"What?" The other two people in the room exclaimed simultaneously.

Tu Nan held her breath for a moment.

"I told Your Majesty that I discovered a brave and intelligent lady here, who not only found clues to a serious case in the Empire."

He gently swirled his teacup. "She is also the guardian of two S-class Children. She hopes to have an audience with Your Majesty."

Hain had followed Tu Nan's script... but Tu Nan felt exhausted.

Yet she could only continue to ask, "...What did Your Majesty say?"

Hain paused.

"'Interesting.' Your Majesty said the same thing."

The three people looked at each other... Now, whose request did Your Majesty receive first, and what exactly did he find so interesting?

Tu Nan's careful plan.

Was messed up into a tangled knot by two Male Beasts.

Yet she couldn't say anything at all.
