167: Bring the siren back to its nest

Hain certainly knew the person coming was Tu Nan.

He knew she was in Lance's room, and he also knew she was accustomed to getting a glass of water from the dining room before bed, which was why he stood guard here, waiting for her to discover him.

So, as soon as Tu Nan came down the stairs and turned into the living room, she happened to see his profile as he melancholically gazed at the night outside the window.

Many Female Beasts commented that he looked like a flower on a high ridge, always appearing too cold.

But they also whispered to each other that his profile in the night gave people an extra sense of fragility.

He did not understand the contradictory aesthetics of those Female Beasts.

They privately called him the Sea Siren under the moonlight; this title was too frivolous and displeased him greatly.

Yet tonight, if everything about him that made other Female Beasts linger with their gazes could make Tu Nan forget the day's unpleasantness, and make her waver even a little bit, he would feel it was worth it.

Sure enough.

Tu Nan did not leave after seeing him.

Just as he had wished, she stopped.

The night was heavy, and the faint light from the courtyard, after being stripped away layer by layer, finally fell softly upon him.

A bit of cool-toned light cast a fuzzy edge on his silhouette, and his eyelashes were struck by this side lighting, casting long, deep shadows.

"What is he thinking about?" Tu Nan wondered.

Just a day ago, she was still worried about not having a suitable method to draw away either Kong Jiamu or Hain, struggling to lay out a plan, hoping to borrow the power of Your Majesty to break the deadlock.

Now, Kong Jiamu had left without hesitation, and Hain... had entered the trap so willingly.

Heaven had provided such an opportunity; it would be a shame to waste it.

The quiet in the living room was indescribably wonderful, and a silent invitation circled in the air.

Tu Nan did not break it.

Following the invitation, she took the lightest of steps toward the hunter who had set the trap yet was so humble.

She stood before him.

Hain's waterfall-like black hair moved, very slightly, and Tu Nan, like a moth drawn to a flame, could not help but reach out.

She brushed past it.

She had come.

The newly debuted Sea Siren had waited for the land creature he wanted to lure into his trap tonight.

Hain held his breath, terrified of startling her.

Tu Nan's hand fell from his cold hair, perhaps ready to withdraw, as if her curiosity had been satisfied.

But her fingertips were gripped.

It was not heavy, yet it was full of pleading.

Staring at Hain's stubborn hand, the corners of Tu Nan's mouth curved slightly; a stalemate for a moment or perhaps longer? Tu Nan could not quite judge.

She finally sighed softly, breaking all the spells in the space.

Gripping Hain's hand back, she effortlessly led him toward her own nest...

Yi Xingye heard that Kong Jiamu had gone out and immediately moved back next door to Lance.

He was originally maintaining his weapon, but his movements paused, and he darted to the door, opening it just a crack.

After counting someone's footsteps going up the stairs and hearing the sound of a door opening and closing on the third floor, he finally relaxed his vigilance.

A terrifying presence... that was the deterrence of a top predator, warning other Male Beasts to tuck away their covetous hearts.

He took out a small tool and stuck it on Lance's door, then closed his own door while enduring Lance's angry gaze.

"...You better have a reason." Lance glared at him.

The uncle was again randomly entering her room; she had already taken off her clothes in a mess and was lying on the bed, ready to sleep.

"Hain is here; he and Pearl have returned to their room."

If anyone else heard this out-of-context statement, they would think he wanted to gossip.

Lance, however, would not misunderstand.

She was speechless. "How rare... she is already pregnant with Children."

Yi Xingye thought of the test results from that night, lost in thought.

"Oh, just ignore it." He lay straight down on the sofa in the room.

"I'm sleeping here tonight; I'm not at ease." Yi Xingye explained his reason.

Lance let him be... it was as if Hain would actually do something that he could defeat.

After thinking for a moment, Lance reminded him.

"Don't let it slip."

In Tu Nan's room, Hain had failed to restrain his aura, and the aura around him was only more chaotic than before.

However, because the person he wanted to target was not there, it was forced to linger around him without spreading out.

Tu Nan brought him into the room, closed the door, and let go of his hand.

Hain, however, just stood at the door, refusing to walk further in.

Tu Nan remained a step away from him, waiting in silence.

She had plenty of time now, so she also had plenty of patience.

Seeing that Tu Nan would not speak first, and the stalemate reaching the end, Hain said aggrievedly: "There is his scent in this room."

Who this "he" referred to, both of them knew well.

"It was... the day of the airport pickup..." Hain was certain it was that day; only that night, there was no possibility later, such a rich scent must have been an entire night...

He felt both uncomfortable and angry; that day he hadn't made up his mind yet.

Why was he always one step too late?

Tu Nan kept looking at him, and suddenly, she smiled self-deprecatingly.

"You see, this is why I have to think about it, Hain... I knew it would end up like this a long time ago."

"I'm not as good as you think; don't be so impulsive. Kong Jiamu has beauty, money, and ability, and he is good to me too."

She threw herself onto the sofa, exhausted. "I was with him on the starship; you say this is your Children?"

"Should I go get an exam as an entry ticket? Otherwise, you will always be guessing." Tu Nan pulled the corners of her mouth, "Actually, let alone you, I have been thinking for the past two days, maybe this Children is Kong Jiamu's, so what does it count for me to be with you?"

Hain was stunned.

"No!" He was very firm, "It is mine."

"The S-rank Gene Lock is almost foolproof; Kong Jiamu would not make such a mistake!"

Kong Jiamu was too experienced; only he was the first... Hain shook his head, no, that was not the problem. It was not because of the Children!

Tu Nan's simple two-sentence questioning instead made him completely understand his own feelings.

He didn't like Tu Nan because of the Children in the first place.

The Children was just that opportunity, the perfect excuse he found for himself.

He only looked forward to this Children... because of Tu Nan.

Thinking of this, Hain's eyes brightened even more.

"That night... I did not control the Gene Lock. It was not because of a mistake, but rather, I opened it voluntarily."

"I don't regret it, except for not asking for your opinion."

After saying these two sentences, he completely calmed down.

The shock on Tu Nan's face was both feigned and moved by his desperate attitude.

"It was my fault for bringing up someone else." He smiled, his expression gentle and lingering.

"Tu Nan, you can't lie to me. You are not completely heartless toward me."

"If you were as shallow as you say, you wouldn't hesitate at all." Hain indicated that he was the one who truly saw through Tu Nan.

"You are afraid of hurting me." He felt happy because of this.

"No matter what kind of feeling it is, it can become the beginning of love." Hain was like a believer. "Pity is one, reluctance to part is another. Tu Nan, you have me in your heart."

Yes, Tu Nan recited silently: "I have you in my heart."

Looking at the cute person who no longer spoke to refute him, Hain felt so happy that he felt like he was floating on the sea, or stepping on clouds, dizzy.

Finally leaving the invisible Seal at the door, he walked toward Tu Nan.

He lowered his head and held Tu Nan's face.

This time, he could finally, in an environment where no one disturbed them, in a brightly lit space.

Carefully, gently, and repeatedly, he kissed her.

Tu Nan was gently pressed onto the sofa by him, and she did not dodge again.

Tonight, Hain's Children... already no longer needed to worry about not being able to harvest enough genes.
