58: Assessment

Ye Chen’s figure floated high above the camouflage layer, overlooking the entire battlefield from a bird’s-eye view.

A thousand Orc Soldiers were slowly advancing; the Orc Warriors were all clad in bronze armor, wielding sharp blades, with archers and priests securely protected among them.

Ye Chen frowned slightly, gazing at the Orc Warriors’ fully armored, sturdy plates.

The Worm Army was effective against light armor, but this bronze armor wouldn’t suffer much damage.

It seemed he still needed to take out the enemy’s archers and priests first to create an opportunity for the Vampire Bats.

Thinking this, Ye Chen immediately ordered the Worm Army to burrow underground.

To prevent the movement of the Worm Army burrowing from alerting the Orcs,

Ye Chen did not have the Worm directly infiltrate beneath the Orc Army, but rather ambushed them on their inevitable path, waiting for an opportune moment.

Meanwhile, the Vampire Bat Army waited for the right time, ready to attack at any moment.

From a sky-high perspective, the camouflage layer, apart from a small mountainous area, was mostly flat terrain.

Ye Chen mused to himself that he must transform this main battlefield in the future; diverse terrain would also facilitate surprise attacks for his own kin.

Once the Orcs’ ranged units entered the ambush zone, Ye Chen’s thoughts stirred, and the Vampire Bats swarmed forward like a dark cloud.

The Orcs were immediately drawn to this crimson cloud, all taking up defensive positions.

The Orc Warriors quickly formed a battle array, blocking in front of the ranged units.

Archers nocked arrows and drew bows, poised to strike, and the Orc Priests’ totem poles also glowed with silver light, signaling an imminent fierce battle.

When the Bat Army entered firing range, the Orc Commander gave an order:

“Fire!”

Hundreds of arrows sliced through the air, shooting towards the bat swarm.

Now!

“Blood Shadow Strike!”

Ye Chen’s command was transmitted into the mind of every Bat.

Three hundred Vampire Bats simultaneously transformed into crimson afterimages, swooping down.

They disintegrated into blood mist in mid-air, and arrows passed through their bodies without causing any damage.

The Orcs were somewhat astonished but quickly re-nocked their bows, preparing for a new round of firing.

Just then, over a thousand hideous Worm suddenly burst out of the ground.

Their objective was clear: to only attack the ranged units.

In just an instant, they caused immense chaos.

Archers, ignoring the Bats in the sky, scrambled for self-preservation.

Priests frantically shot accumulated lightning arrows into the sky, then wielded their thick totem poles to smash the gnawing Worm.

Seeing this, the Orc Warriors wanted to go forward and help.

“Sonic Shockwave!”

The Bat Army’s second wave of attacks followed closely.

High-frequency sound waves exploded among the Orcs; the closest Orc Warriors clutched their ears in pain, their heads buzzing.

The Vampire Bats, now closer, also focused their targets on the ranged units.

Countless crimson arrows rained down on the Orc Priests.

The Orc Priests, busy playing whack-a-mole, were caught unawares and were directly hit by the blood arrows.

Many Priests died on the spot, and some severely wounded ones were immediately killed by the Worm.

The Bats directly charged into the chaotic crowd, crimson chains connecting to the Orc Priests’ bodies, harvesting the remaining Priests.

In the midst of the chaos, the strongest Priest Army was annihilated.

Ye Chen’s army did not retreat; seizing this opportune moment, they continued to reap the lives of the archers.

At this point, some archers had already been protected behind the Orc Warriors, attempting to re-form and attack.

However, the elusive Worm did not give them a chance.

Some Worm burrowed underground, reappearing beneath the archers’ feet.

These Worm completely disregarded their own lives, attacking the enemies with a suicidal mindset.

Their hideous and sharp proboscises bit onto the archers, refusing to let go, creating opportunities for their comrades.

Meanwhile, the Vampire Bats continuously absorbed life from enemies while firing blood arrows and sonic shockwaves, causing immense chaos for the Orc Army.

The Orc Commander, seeing his army in disarray, roared:

“Everyone, don’t lose your formation! Find teammates nearby and rely on each other to defend against the enemy!”

The roar echoed across the entire battlefield; the Orc Soldiers, hearing the command, reluctantly gathered into small teams.

The Worm still charged fearlessly towards the archers, seemingly having targeted them specifically.

“All archers, drop your bows and draw your melee weapons to fight the enemy!”

The Orc Commander’s words once again resounded across the battlefield.

The archers, upon hearing this, quickly dropped their hot potatoes and drew their short swords to engage the enemy.

The Orc Commander seemed to want to use this method to confuse the Worm, making them unable to find the archers, thereby forcing them to clash head-on with the Orc Warriors.

Unfortunately, these Worm were not beasts acting purely on instinct.

“Attack the Orcs wearing leather armor.”

Ye Chen’s command appeared in the minds of the Worm and Bats, shattering the Orc Commander’s illusion.

Under the Worm and Vampire Bats’ disregard for casualties, all Orcs wearing leather armor were targeted and killed.

At this point, the Worm Army had suffered heavy casualties, with more than half dead, while the Bats, relying on healing and mist transformation, suffered fewer losses, but still lost one-third.

The rest was easy.

The Worm burrowed underground, withdrawing from the battlefield, while the Vampire Bats, relying on ranged attacks, continuously depleted the Orc Warriors’ lives.

Some Orc Warriors tried to counterattack with bows and arrows, but with little effect, instead becoming new targets for the Vampire Bats.

Seeing his warriors powerless against the enemy, the Orc Commander’s body suddenly erupted with intense battle aura flames, and his entire demeanor abruptly changed.

The true strength of a Third-Order Transcendent was now fully displayed.

“Blood Tide Siphon, concentrate fire!” Ye Chen’s command reached the Blood Bats’ minds.

All remaining combat-ready Vampire Bats simultaneously locked onto the Orc Commander, and crimson energy threads wrapped around him like a spiderweb.

The Worm also emerged from underground, rushing towards the other Orc Warriors regardless of casualties, using their bodies to buy time for the bat swarm.

The massive loss of blood caused the Orc Commander’s muscles to visibly shrink at a rapid pace.

But he still raised his battle axe high, chopping down heavily towards the Blood Bats in the sky.

A blood-red battle aura formed a semicircular energy blade that slashed towards the Blood Bat swarm; the Orc Commander watched this strike intently, hoping to slay the enemy.

The energy blade fiercely… slashed into the blood mist, then gradually flew off into the distance.

Seeing this, the Orc Commander almost spat blood.

But he no longer had any blood to spit.

As the Worm Army was annihilated, the Orc Commander’s life also came to an end, riddled with holes by the Blood Bats.

With the Orc Commander’s demise, the Orc Army no longer posed any threat.

They scattered in disarray under the Blood Bats’ attack, and were subsequently completely wiped out, finally bringing an end to this assessment.

Emerging from the teleportation array, other classmates had already finished their battles early and left the assessment room.

The Examiner had long grown impatient and didn’t give Ye Chen a pleasant look when he came out.

He immediately checked the combat data statistics.

“Ye Chen, is it? Ho, one thousand three hundred kin.”

“Remaining… one hundred seventy, losses exceeding 85%…”

“Enemies: 1001 Orcs… all annihilated.”

“Your command ability is lacking; your casualty ratio is over one to one.”

“Considering you wiped out the enemy, you pass, grade – C.”

Ye Chen looked at the Examiner with an incredulous expression.

Do you even hear yourself?

His command ability, as a top student, was being looked down upon?
