Chapter 109 Sister Xin reconciles again
Shen Pianran's reminder was timely; once the lawsuit was initiated, Wen Huilin might be driven to desperation and cause some trouble.
Chen Ang had always made a habit of planning ahead for trouble.
Before he even reached the litigation team's law firm, his phone rang again.
Seeing Zhong Yuanxin's name pop up on the screen, Chen Ang answered with some confusion. Before he could speak, she began.
"Chen Ang, were you set up by Wen Huilin seven years ago?"
Chen Ang tapped the brake, his movements stiff as he asked, "How did you know?"
"It really was... Wen Huilin just came to the company. She brought a group of tax inspectors and filed a real-name report against the company for tax evasion."
Chen Ang was silent, offering no response.
Seeing this, Zhong Yuanxin complained, "You're a remarkably carefree boss. They've been performing funeral rites for seven days and eight nights, and you don't even know where the person died. It's fortunate that Shen Pianran shut her up, and then I gave her another round."
"Right before she left, I asked her how she managed to marry you seven years ago, and her expression changed."
After saying all that in one breath, Zhong Yuanxin stopped to catch her breath.
Chen Ang shook his head with a bitter smile, "That's all in the past. Aren't I in the process of getting a divorce now? Besides, with you and Lawyer Shen at the company, what do I have to worry about?"
"As expected, Shen Pianran said you're heartless." There was a few seconds of silence on the other end before Zhong Yuanxin complained again.
Then, she lowered her voice and cursed, "That woman is truly a piece of trash."
Chen Ang smiled, "She certainly isn't."
In his memory, Zhong Yuanxin had always been straightforward and bold; otherwise, her close friends wouldn't all call her Sister Xin.
She cursed a few more times, and once her breathing steadied, her voice suddenly paused. It seemed like she hesitated for a long time before speaking, "Chen Ang, Director Xu Qingwan... she has a child."
"I know."
"You know?" Zhong Yuanxin's voice suddenly rose by half an octave, "When did you find out?"
"Didn't Shen Pianran go to Jiangning for contact earlier? She saw it there and mentioned it when she got back. You don't need to worry about this for me; as long as she's living well, that's enough."
"What do you mean she's living well? I stayed at her place for a night, and there were no traces of a man living in her house, not a single one. There wasn't even a pair of men's slippers at the door."
"Don't you find that strange?" Zhong Yuanxin said urgently, "She's raising a child alone, working alone, and living alone."
After she finished, she waited a moment, but hearing no reply from Chen Ang, she added, "Chen Ang, what exactly are you hiding from us? Why did you two break up back then?"
Chen Ang pulled the car over to the side of the road and lit a cigarette. The car fell into silence, with only the soft sound of air blowing from the AC vent.
His hand on the steering wheel didn't move, but a vein on the back of his hand slightly bulged.
At that moment, many images flashed through his mind.
There was Xu Dingshan, sitting behind that large desk in the Linjiang Municipal Committee office, with a gentle smile on his face.
At the time, he said: "Little Chen, I've heard about your family's situation, and I've also heard about you and Qingwan. Qingwan is still young, and there are some things she doesn't understand, but you should."
Then, it flashed to Director Xu Qingwan standing under the red maple tree in front of the municipal government staff quarters, her eyes filled with tears, rushing over to hug him, her frantic kisses landing on his lips.
Then he pushed her away and said, "Let's break up." She didn't ask why; she just stood there watching him turn away, watching until his back disappeared around the street corner.
"Chen Ang?" Zhong Yuanxin's voice pulled him back.
"Sister Xin, some things are in the past. As long as she is happy, that's enough."
"You call that in the past?" Zhong Yuanxin's voice carried a hint of mockery, "You're worth hundreds of millions now; you're one of the top young tycoons in Nan Province. What are you lacking? You lack nothing."
Chen Ang didn't answer.
What he lacked wasn't money or status; it was something far more complex.
Back then, sitting behind that desk, Xu Dingshan, in the name of a father and in the capacity of the Municipal Party Secretary, made him understand one thing: even if his family hadn't collapsed, he wouldn't have been worthy of Director Xu Qingwan.
And now, even though he had money, some things, once broken, were broken for good and couldn't be pieced back together.
Moreover, Xu Dingshan was now the Vice Governor, and the matter of his family's bankruptcy...
He couldn't tell Zhong Yuanxin about these things.
"Sister Xin," he began again, his voice very soft, "some things cannot be solved just with money. Don't bring up the matter between me and Director Xu Qingwan again in the future. Also, has the tax audit finished? Has the person who leaked the information been identified?"
"Fine, suit yourselves," Zhong Yuanxin replied, discouraged.
"Regarding the leak, I spoke with Director Zhang from the Municipal Bureau. They should investigate after they return. That person named Jian Ting, Wen Huilin's best friend, she's in the inspection team. I suspect it's most likely her."
Chen Ang narrowed his eyes slightly, a cold smirk hanging on his lips. As expected, Jian Ting had ultimately walked right into the trap herself.
"Then get it investigated clearly. Handle it however it should be handled." He flicked the cigarette ash, his tone calm.
"Chen Ang," Zhong Yuanxin suddenly said, "when you hired me as the CFO back then, did you already anticipate that today would happen? Did you foresee that someone would attack from the tax side, which is why you put me in this position?"
"I wouldn't dare. How would I dare to use you as a pawn?" Chen Ang tossed the cigarette butt away and hurriedly denied it.
"You wouldn't dare? I think you'd dare to do anything." Zhong Yuanxin's tone was extremely dismissive, "You calculated everything, even anticipating that Wen Huilin would come to report us."
"Stop blowing things out of proportion. I really didn't calculate that. Who knew she was so brainless as to crash into a wall like you?"
"Cut it out," Zhong Yuanxin laughed, "Alright, anyway, we aren't outsiders."
"That's for sure. I'm still counting on Sister Xin to cover for me."
After hanging up the phone, Chen Ang sat in the car for a long time.
He lit another cigarette before starting the car and driving toward the New District.
After obtaining the prepared documents, he hurried without pause to the Registration Center.
He sat on a stainless steel bench for nearly an hour before it was his turn at the window.
The staff member was a young girl with a ponytail. She took the materials, flipped through them, and looked up at him; she probably rarely saw anyone filing an objection registration for their own house.
"The two properties at Sheng Huating Residential Area and Chunjiang Garden, the registered owners are your spouse and minor children?"
"Yes."
"After the objection registration, these properties cannot be transferred, mortgaged, or undergo any other disposal procedures until the objection is canceled. Do you confirm the application?"
"Confirmed."
The girl typed on the keyboard for a while, then printed out a receipt of acceptance and handed it to him.
Chen Ang took the receipt, folded it, put it in his pocket, and turned to walk out of the Registration Center.
He checked the time; it was almost five o'clock, and the sky was already starting to darken.
He sat in the bentley and sent a message to Xue Shanshan.
The reply came quickly; Xue Shanshan sent an address.
Closing his phone, the corners of Chen Ang's mouth turned up slightly.
Since you've opened your door, I have to pay a visit no matter what.
