Chapter 25 Tu Yuandong's ex-wife, Yu Fei

When Chen Ang returned home, it was already past ten o'clock. The lights in the house were off; it was clear that the mother and son had already gone to sleep.

Passing by the master bedroom, he faintly heard Wen Huilin coughing inside. Chen Ang suddenly recalled the image of her waiting outside the hotpot restaurant to ambush him, and his face instantly lit up with immense joy.

Although Bin City is not considered to be in the north, in late October, the temperature usually drops to just a few degrees after dark. With a bit of wind, it could truly freeze you to the bone.

With a smile on his face, Chen Ang finished washing up and lay down.

The night passed without incident. After waking up in the morning, he saw Wen Huilin busy in the kitchen. He stepped closer and saw that she was frying eggs.

Seeing her act like a virtuous wife and loving mother, Chen Ang couldn't help but feel a chill of disgust.

"You're awake. Go wake up Xiaotian for breakfast." Wen Huilin turned around, actually wearing a faint smile.

Chen Ang was stunned, then nodded. As he turned away, his jaw muscles twitched uncontrollably; he struggled to suppress his revulsion.

This woman was too good at acting. With this kind of patience, she could succeed at anything, yet she insisted on scheming against him.

From this, it was evident that she was extremely calculating. Seven years ago, was it really such a coincidence that she happened to be drunk, that the hotel he stayed at happened to be her workplace, and that she happened to come to the hotel to pick something up and entered the wrong room?

Looking at the results now, it proved that everything had been her scheme. Chen Ang realized this only in hindsight.

Things had reached this point; the die was cast, so he could only exact his revenge.

At exactly nine o'clock in the morning, Chen Ang arrived at a Mingdian Coffee shop in the center of the old city district.

Upon entering, he saw a woman sitting at table number 7. She looked much better than he had imagined.

"Mr. Chen, please sit."

Yu Fei stood up and extended her hand. Her grip was moderate—neither too soft nor too firm. Her voice was not loud, but her articulation was very clear.

Chen Ang sized her up. She was probably in her early thirties, well-maintained, dressed appropriately, with her hair simply pinned up—not flashy, but very elegant. She was completely different from the bitter, resentful woman he had imagined.

"The coffee here is good," Yu Fei said, signaling the waiter to come over to take Chen Ang's order. "I used to come here often, but I've come less since the divorce."

"Then why choose this place today?" Chen Ang waved his hand to decline the waiter, only ordering a glass of plain water.

He wasn't used to drinking coffee; he couldn't stand the taste. He had only drunk it before because Director Xu Qingwan liked it.

"Because it's good coffee, I shouldn't change my tastes just because of one person. It's a real pity you don't like it." There was a hint of regret in Yu Fei's eyes.

As if her desire to share hadn't been satisfied, her interest in conversation waned. "You asked to see me, is it about Tu Yuandong?"

Chen Ang's gaze slid down from her lips and landed on the rim of the cup, which bore a faint ring of lipstick. "Indeed, it's for him, and also for you."

"Mr. Chen?" Her voice was not loud. "Speak plainly."

Chen Ang took the water from the waiter. "I received information that you have evidence of Tu Yuandong's tax evasion."

Yu Fei's hands were on the table; her fingers curled slightly. She did not deny it. She was silent for a moment, but when she spoke, she didn't address his point.

"Was it a private investigator?"

"Yes." After acknowledging this, Chen Ang looked at the woman again. He realized she was not stupid at all, but rather quite intelligent—perhaps she had finally come to her senses after being blinded by love.

According to the information provided by Jiang Shan, Yu Fei was once the daughter of an official's family.

Her father was the director of the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau before he passed away. Most likely, with her father gone, people turned their backs on her, and Tu Yuandong almost managed to strip her of everything.

"Who have you investigated?"

"Tu Yuandong and my wife."

Yu Fei raised her eyelids. She didn't press for details on what had been found. Even a fool would know what it meant for a man to hire a private investigator to look into his wife and another man.

She didn't speak again, instead watching Chen Ang, waiting for him to continue.

"Wen Huilin is my wife in the legal sense," Chen Ang said. "She has been sleeping with Tu Yuandong for at least two years, and the son is not mine."

Yu Fei's eyelid twitched. She wasn't surprised; instead, she smiled, revealing her teeth, and her whole demeanor brightened significantly.

"Does this count as shared suffering?" She stopped smiling, her voice devoid of inflection, as if stating a fact that had little to do with her. "You came to me because you want me to help you?"

"It's a partnership. You have the evidence, and I have the means." Chen Ang didn't mind her smile.

"What means?" She lowered her head and stirred her coffee with a small spoon.

"Tu Yuandong's Company relies on the Company's supply chain to survive. I am currently in the process of acquiring the Company. Once the acquisition is complete, I will cut off the supply." Chen Ang said concisely.

Yu Fei stared at him for three seconds, feeling somewhat shocked. She remembered that when she was investigating Wen Huilin, this man had seemed to be nothing more than a beast of burden.

"Do you know what kind of person Tu Yuandong is?" she asked suddenly, then answered herself, "He was the one who cried the loudest at my father's funeral. He knelt in front of the mourning hall, tears falling one by one onto the floor. Even I couldn't cry as well as he did."

"Less than half a year later, he siphoned off half of the one-third of the family assets that belonged to me. On the books, it was still there, but those material payments couldn't be collected at all. He claimed the Company was caught in a triangular debt."

Chen Ang understood what she meant. Tu Yuandong couldn't be killed off just by cutting off his supply; he was calculating and had methods.

"Didn't you pull any strings?" Chen Ang didn't ask if she had gone through legal channels, because her words indicated that Tu Yuandong had designed it meticulously and wouldn't have left any loose ends.

"Actually, I'm not short of money. With my father gone, those connections are only worth so much." She picked up her coffee and took a sip.

It was indeed not worth wasting limited political favors on taking down a scumbag.

Chen Ang nodded in deep agreement. When this woman wasn't in love, she was extremely clear-headed.

A bit of evidence of tax evasion would merely result in Tu Yuandong paying fines. His Company's registered paid-in capital was only two million; at worst, he could just pay those two million and still live freely.

If there were any legal liabilities, he had a legal representative to take the fall for him.

"So, you're actually waiting for an opportunity, aren't you? You're betting that he will eventually mess up." Chen Ang had guessed her intentions; he knew she was holding onto the evidence to kick him while he was down.

Yu Fei didn't answer, just gave a light smile, the sound of which was very short and soft.

A moment later, she looked up at Chen Ang. "I can give you the evidence. But I have one condition."

"Go ahead." Chen Ang shrugged, signaling her to continue.

"When you close the net, I want to be there."

"Fine."

Upon hearing his confirmation, she took a kraft paper envelope out of her bag and placed it on the table, her hand still resting on it. "This is a part of it."

Chen Ang reached for the envelope, but she didn't let go.

"Mr. Chen." She raised her head, frowned, and asked, "You said just now that your son is not yours. I want to ask, how did you endure it?"

"Endure? I've been sleeping with someone else's wife for free for seven years, and someone else's son has been calling me 'Dad' for six years. What is there that I can't endure?" Chen Ang pinched the corner of the envelope and lifted it.

Yu Fei looked at him, pursing her lips for a few seconds. Confirming that Chen Ang wasn't just putting on a brave face but had truly let go, she burst into a laugh, released her hand, stood up, and picked up the jacket from the back of her chair.

"Mr. Chen, I have to say, you are a very interesting person. For the rest of the materials, wait for my call."

Making a hand gesture of a phone call with her right hand, she walked away from the square table.

Chen Ang turned his head and only saw her swaying figure as she walked away.
