Chapter 57 The Mastermind
She had originally been fixated on splitting Chen Ang's assets in half, believing that two hundred million would be enough to ensure she lived as someone superior to others for the rest of her life.
But the bubble had been burst, and the intense emotional shock caused Wen Huilin to lose her breath and faint on the spot.
A moment later, she heard someone calling her name, and she slowly regained some consciousness, feeling a stinging sensation on her lips and philtrum.
She slowly opened her eyes and caught a glimpse of Lawyer Zhou and his secretary standing to the side, looking nervous and speechless.
"Ms. Wen, are you alright?"
The secretary's soft voice drifted into her ears.
"I'm sorry," she shook her head, "I just felt a little unwell."
Declining the warm water the secretary offered, Wen Huilin struggled to sit up.
At this moment, she recalled the way Chen Ang had been looking at her recently—that calm gaze, as if he were looking at a clown.
She had suspected it before, but now it was finally confirmed: he really was looking at her as a clown jumping up and down.
Ever since he found out their son wasn't his biological child, she had transformed from the schemer into the schemed against.
This feeling was truly worse than death.
"Ms. Wen, please let me finish what I have to say. It is not as if we have no chance at all."
Attorney Zhou Zheng slowed his tone significantly, as if to soothe her. "Although the probability of us winning is not very high, the most important thing right now is not to attack, but to defend."
"If you want me to represent you in this case, you cannot hide anything from me anymore. Furthermore, you must unconditionally do as I say. If you do not trust me, then I will not take this case."
After laying the groundwork for so long and shattering all of Wen Huilin's little schemes, Attorney Zhou Zheng finally put forward his demands.
He knew clearly that the probability of losing the lawsuit was high, but that did not mean there was no chance. Moreover, Chen Ang had stolen his wife, and he absolutely could not let him have an easy time.
Upon hearing this, Wen Huilin's spirits lifted significantly. She raised her head; her eyes were no longer red, and her gaze was no longer panicked.
Replacing it was a sense of ruthless determination to burn her bridges. She had no other choice now; Attorney Zhou Zheng was her only straw to clutch.
Seeing that she had recovered, Attorney Zhou Zheng let out a sigh of relief. He looked at her again and said solemnly, "From now on, you must tell me everything, down to the smallest detail. Do not hide anything. You know the consequences are very serious."
Wen Huilin nodded and then gave a detailed account of everything, from when the two of them married, to reuniting with Tu Yuandong two years ago, and their relationship up to the present.
She only omitted the matter of how she had crawled into his bed back then.
Attorney Zhou Zheng recorded all of this, reviewed it, thought for a few minutes, and then looked up.
"Judging from your account, Chen Ang never loved you from the beginning, and he married you under pressure, which is why he has been guarding against you from the start."
"Also, it is possible that the bankruptcy of Chen Ang's family was real. Therefore, we can now conclude that there is a high probability Chen Ang has struck it rich again. And he must have done so after you married."
"We only need to obtain evidence of his business operations after the marriage, and then you will be entitled to a share of his business profits."
Wen Huilin's eyes lit up, and some color began to return to her face.
Attorney Zhou Zheng did not stop and continued his analysis: "Next, you need to do these few things."
"First step," he held up one finger, "From now on, regarding everything about the child, you must stick firmly to one point: you must say that from beginning to end, you did not know that Chen Zetian was not Chen Ang's biological son."
"You always thought the child was Chen Ang's. No one knew the truth. Do you understand?"
Wen Huilin nodded.
"As long as you can hold onto this point, you can create the burden of proof for him in the lawsuit for fraudulent upbringing. If he cannot prove that you knew, then it cannot be considered fraud."
"Even if he has a paternity test, even if he has evidence of an affair, legal fraud requires proving that you had a subjective intent to deceive."
"And something like subjective intent is too hard to prove. As long as you can maintain this stance, even if the fraudulent upbringing case goes to court, it is not a guaranteed loss."
Listening to Attorney Zhou Zheng's explanation, Wen Huilin nodded and took out her phone to start taking notes.
"Second step," Attorney Zhou Zheng held up a second finger, "You must immediately start collecting evidence of Chen Ang hiding assets. Anything you see him write, any documents he signs, keep them all. The plan you had to install surveillance must be pushed forward immediately."
Wen Huilin gave a hum of acknowledgement, signaling him to continue.
"Third step," Attorney Zhou Zheng held up a third finger, "You mentioned that you have a close friend in the Tax Bureau? You must convince her to help you investigate the internal financial situation of Hengxing Investment. Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will be victorious in every battle."
"Fourth step," he looked at Wen Huilin, his tone suddenly softening, "From now on, make a copy of all the materials you have regarding Chen Ang and give them to someone you trust the most."
"Then you tell Chen Ang—not as a formal warning, but just mention it in passing—that you have already given the materials to someone else. You need to let him know that if he dares to make a move against you or use other means to harm you, these things will be made public."
"I am helping you arrange your last line of retreat to prevent him from forcing you into a dead end. At the same time, this is also the groundwork for the next move; we need the power of public opinion."
"Society is twisted; people are used to stories of rich men abandoning their wives and children. People on the internet are easily incited. They don't need evidence; they just need an emotional outlet that can move them. This is the key for us to win sympathy."
Wen Huilin's eyes became brighter and brighter; her feeling of bewilderment and fear was gradually replaced by confidence.
"Finally, you must contact Tu Yuandong as soon as possible and have him destroy and delete all the messages you previously discussed regarding the child. It must be done without leaving a single trace."
Wen Huilin nodded as she finished taking notes, then looked up, "Thank you, Lawyer Zhou. Without you, I wouldn't know what to do."
Attorney Zhou Zheng smiled slightly, "I have said everything that needs to be said. The rest is up to you. Only those who are prepared can succeed. Let's stop here for today; I still need to help you organize your files."
After Wen Huilin left, Attorney Zhou Zheng created a separate folder for her files and locked it in his drawer.
Then he sent a message to his secretary, telling her to cancel all non-urgent appointments for this week.
Next, he needed to study the equity penetration of Hengxing Investment and incite Wen Huilin's friend to create trouble for Chen Ang.
As long as he could stall Chen Ang, he would find his flaws sooner or later.
He not only wanted him to lose the lawsuit but also wanted to ruin his reputation.
He wanted Shen Pianran to see clearly how the man she chose was torn to pieces by him.
Of course, if Wen Huilin ended up getting money, he wouldn't mind taking a hefty attorney's fee.
