Chapter 97 Xue Shanshan Takes the Initiative

After Wen Huilin finished speaking, the living room fell into a dead silence.

At this moment, Wen Guodong's expression changed, becoming both angry and complex.

He looked at Chen Ang, then at Wen Huilin, clearly re-evaluating which of the two was more trustworthy.

Li Meifeng opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but realized she didn't know what to say.

"Sis, what are you saying? Brother-in-law is pretty good, isn't he?" Wen Zhiyong clicked his tongue and leaned back on the sofa. "If you're stingy, that's on you, don't blame Brother-in-law."

"Wen Zhiyong, shut your mouth! Of everyone here, you're the stupidest." Wen Huilin roared at him, her voice so sharp it almost tore through the living room.

In the living room, only the echo of Wen Huilin's roar could be heard. For a moment, everyone was stunned by her outburst.

Only Chen Ang remained completely unaffected; he held his teacup, sipping slowly and watching quietly.

Wen Huilin turned around and scanned the room—her greedy father, her foolish mother, her selfish brother, her gold-digging future sister-in-law, and her insidious husband, who was leaning on the sofa, sipping tea and watching the show.

She saw a hint of a smile on his face. It was hidden behind the rim of his cup, invisible to others, but she saw it clearly.

"Fine. One hundred thousand. Take it or leave it. If you think it's too little, you won't get a single cent."

After saying this, she grabbed her bag from the coffee table and turned to walk toward the door.

Her high heels thudded dully on the carpet with every step.

Seeing this, Chen Ang knew the night's excitement had come to an end. He stood up, grabbed his coat, said "I'll go check on her" to Wen Guodong, and followed her out.

Xue Shanshan straightened up from the wall beside the entryway and said to Chen Ang, "Brother-in-law, let me see you out."

Wen Zhiyong sat on the sofa, looking blankly, completely unaware that his fiancée had followed another man's back until she disappeared at the end of the hallway.

At the entrance of the Qianxi Hotel, Wen Huilin hailed a taxi. She sat in the back seat, leaned against the window, and closed her eyes.

She didn't want to go back to that room, nor did she want to look at Chen Ang again.

Right now, she only wanted to find Tu Yuandong and have him come up with a solution quickly; she was sick of the days spent being hunted and retaliated against by Chen Ang.

All day long, besides worrying that Chen Ang would transfer all the money away, she also feared that Chen Ang would suddenly strike, catching her off guard.

This constant anxiety made her feel like she couldn't hold on any longer and would go crazy.

As the taxi waited for the luxury car in front to move, she opened her eyes and looked through the window toward the hotel entrance.

In an instant, a scene shattered her composure again.

She saw her future sister-in-law, Xue Shanshan, standing beside the revolving door, looking up slightly as she spoke to Chen Ang.

She was wearing a tight-fitting skirt, one shoulder tilted slightly forward, almost pressing against Chen Ang's arm.

Her fingers tapped lightly on Chen Ang's cuff, and the corner of her mouth held a smile that Wen Huilin was all too familiar with.

She had seen this smile too many times at the Company—it was that kind of fawning, probing smile used to please men.

And Chen Ang didn't refuse; on the contrary, he seemed to be encouraging it.

They weren't discussing business at all; it was clearly flirting.

Wen Huilin tried to comfort herself, thinking she must have misseen; the scene was truly too unsightly.

One was her future sister-in-law, the other was still her husband in name.

How could it be...

She tried her best to turn her head away but kept staring at the hotel entrance.

Just as the taxi drove away from the hotel entrance, she saw that Chen Ang was still standing there, and Xue Shanshan had taken another step forward, almost pressing against Chen Ang's chest.

Did they have no sense of propriety?

Her own future sister-in-law and her own husband were making eyes at each other.

Had they hooked up?

How were she and Wen Zhiyong supposed to handle this?

Impossible...

Even though she desperately wanted to deny it, the scene she had witnessed with her own eyes kept assaulting her brain.

She knew that the current Chen Ang didn't play by the rules at all; if he wanted to do something, he really would.

If this became reality and got out, how would she face anyone in the future? How would the Wen family face anyone?

In an instant, Wen Huilin's vision went black. She quickly closed her eyes, realizing she was actually trembling.

Beyond the frustration of being pushed to this point by Chen Ang, and the despair born from her family's greed, there was another emotion, more tangled and suffocating than hatred.

She couldn't describe what it was.

But she knew that at this moment, she wanted to strangle Chen Ang more than ever.

Chen Ang hadn't actually expected Xue Shanshan to follow him out; his original intention was that the show was over, and he was ready to go home and sleep.

But since Xue Shanshan had come out, it would seem pretentious if he didn't play along.

"Brother-in-law, didn't you find Sis Huilin?" Xue Shanshan asked, looking left and right.

Chen Ang saw through her little scheme at a glance but didn't expose it. "Maybe she left already. I was a bit late for the elevator and didn't see her."

Xue Shanshan withdrew her gaze and looked up slightly at Chen Ang. "Sis Huilin is really something, talking to you like that."

She mentioned Wen Huilin, but her eyes carefully observed Chen Ang's expression.

Chen Ang smiled. "She's used to being calculating; I can understand."

"But she completely disregards you. All that money was earned by you, Brother-in-law. How can she ignore you? If it were me…"

Secretly scrutinizing Chen Ang's expression for clues, Xue Shanshan tentatively launched an offensive.

Chen Ang narrowed his eyes slightly and said calmly, "That's true. I didn't expect you to be so understanding, Shanshan."

Hearing Chen Ang's affirmation, Xue Shanshan bloomed into a smile, looking charming and lovely. "Brother-in-law, do you have time tomorrow? I'd like to treat you to a meal; I just want to ask you about some workplace matters."

Chen Ang looked her up and down; her tight wool sweater accentuated her full chest, and the tight skirt wrapped around her waist and hips, highlighting their rounded curves.

"Workplace matters are very complicated. For a girl who just graduated like you, it's very easy to get sexually harassed."

Xue Shanshan completely ignored Chen Ang's gaze; instead, she moved her body slightly along with his line of sight. "That's exactly why I want to ask Brother-in-law about these things. So I'll know how to handle it if I encounter them."

Chen Ang chuckled, locking eyes with her shimmering peach-blossom eyes, and replied, "Let's talk about tomorrow later. If I have time, I'll contact you."

Xue Shanshan stepped closer, tilting her head up slightly. "Then I'll wait for Brother-in-law to teach me a lesson."

"Fine." Chen Ang nodded. "The wind is strong at night in Bin City; you're wearing so little, I'm worried you'll catch a cold."

Xue Shanshan giggled, reaching out to grab the lapels of Chen Ang's suit. "Brother-in-law isn't wearing much either, so you should be careful not to catch a cold too."

Chen Ang didn't respond further; he turned around, waved at the bellhop, and handed over the bentley keys.

He had originally been wondering how to hook up with Xue Shanshan, but he hadn't expected her to be even more proactive than himself.

Chen Ang was happy to do anything that would shatter Wen Huilin's composure.

On the eve of her brother's wedding, sleeping with her future sister-in-law—was there any revenge more satisfying than this?

At least, Chen Ang couldn't think of any other ideas for now.
