Chapter 96 Wen Huilin was driven crazy
The designated driver drove very steadily. Chen Ang rolled the car window down a little, letting the cold night wind blow against his neck, and he felt the tingling sensation of goosebumps rising.
After sobering up a bit, he dialed Shen Pianran's number.
On the other end, a slightly lazy voice sounded: "Boss, I've just relaxed, surely you aren't giving me another assignment, are you?"
Chen Ang's lips curled up. "Are you that tired? Do you want me to give you two days off to recuperate?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line. Clearly, Shen Pianran had thought of last night's scene, so Chen Ang heard a faint "bastard."
"Yu Liang just told me that the chat logs have been obtained, so I'm planning to meet with the litigation team tomorrow. What do you think?" Chen Ang brought up the serious matter.
Hearing this, Shen Pianran perked up. "Perfect, the materials on that side are all ready too. Are the chat logs favorable to us?"
"Yes, Yu Liang said it's solid evidence." Chen Ang switched the phone to his other ear, casually opened a bottle of water, and took a small sip.
"That's good. I'll notify the team now, and we'll set an exact date for the lawsuit after we meet tomorrow." Shen Pianran made the arrangements immediately.
Chen Ang had been waiting for this day for a long time, so naturally, he wouldn't object.
After hanging up, not even two minutes later, the phone rang again.
This time it was a WeChat message from Xue Shanshan: "Brother-in-law, Wen Huilin is arguing with her parents. Can you come and judge who's right?"
Chen Ang looked at it for a moment, a trace of a smile appearing at the corners of his mouth. He turned his head and told the designated driver to go to the Qianxi Hotel.
In less than twenty minutes, Chen Ang arrived in front of the presidential suite. He pushed the door open and found that the atmosphere inside had frozen to the freezing point.
Wen Guodong sat on the sofa, his face as dark as the bottom of a pot.
Li Meifeng stood by the window, her eyes red, muttering incessantly, "What kind of sin have I committed to deserve this?"
Xue Shanshan leaned against the wall by the entryway, arms crossed over her chest. The expression on her face didn't look like she was trying to mediate; it looked more like she was watching a show.
Only Wen Zhiyong was still sitting on the sofa, a toothpick hanging from his mouth, his face full of anger and unwillingness.
As for Wen Huilin, she was standing in the center of the room, her bag still slung over her shoulder. It was obvious she had been called over directly after getting off work and hadn't even had time to sit down.
Hearing the door open, she turned her head and saw Chen Ang walk in. The hatred in her eyes was almost overflowing.
"What are you doing here?"
"I heard you two were arguing, so I came over to take a look. We're all family; harmony brings wealth, after all. There's no need to hurt our relationship over a small matter."
Chen Ang's tone was very calm, but it was full of mockery that only Wen Huilin could understand.
He then walked over to sit next to Wen Zhiyong and picked up the teapot on the coffee table to pour himself a cup of tea.
Wen Huilin glared at him. "Chen Ang, can you stop adding fuel to the fire? Do you even know what you're doing?"
Chen Ang curled his lip, took a sip of tea, and laughed, "I told you not to get so worked up. Look at you, getting all anxious over a little thing. Sit down, have a cup of tea, and cool off."
Looking at the composed Chen Ang, Wen Huilin was even more furious.
You caused all of this, yet here you are playing the good guy and accusing me.
Anyone would find it unbearable. Her face turned gloomy, and her eyes were filled with a look that could kill.
"You really are something. Brother-in-law just walked in and tried to mediate, and you're already getting aggressive. I'm telling you, you've forgotten your parents the moment you started living the good life."
Wen Zhiyong suddenly stood up and spoke up to help Chen Ang.
This made Chen Ang turn his head, unable to help wanting to chuckle out loud.
Wen Huilin was choked by his words, so short of breath she almost collapsed. She pointed at Wen Zhiyong and cursed, "Wen Zhiyong, I've wasted my affection on you. All these years, haven't I been the one cleaning up your messes? Now, for the sake of money, you're actually accusing me like this?"
Seeing her aiming her fire at him, Wen Zhiyong felt a bit guilty and stopped responding, turning his head to take out a cigarette.
"Huilin, calm down. Chen Ang is here today; acting like a shrew in the street, what does that look like?" Wen Guodong stepped out to smooth things over, scolding her sternly.
Seeing that her father also showed signs of getting angry, she sobered up a bit. She flopped onto the sofa and said coldly, "I'll say this one last time: just one hundred thousand. Not a penny more."
Her voice was already hoarse; clearly, the previous argument had been intense.
Afterward, she slapped her bankbook onto the coffee table. After a crisp sound, she added, "This is the last one hundred thousand. It's useless for you to keep pressuring me."
"One hundred thousand?" Li Meifeng widened her eyes in disbelief. "Your brother is counting on this money for his wedding, and you're trying to dismiss us like beggars with one hundred thousand?"
"Exactly." Wen Zhiyong took the toothpick out of his mouth and made a gesture with his hand. "Sis, brother-in-law already said that the dowry given to you back then was 388,000. You haven't spent much these past few years, so you must have saved quite a bit. Mom and Dad also said it's a loan, not a handout; they'll pay you back once they collect the wedding gift money."
"I told you, that money is in a fixed deposit; I can't withdraw it." Wen Huilin gritted her teeth, glaring at her parents and brother.
"That phrase again." Wen Guodong slapped the armrest of the sofa heavily. "Do you have any idea how much money you've saved? Let's lay it all out and talk about it today in front of Chen Ang."
Chen Ang, seeing himself mentioned, smiled and said, "I agree to the loan. As for how much money Huilin has on hand, she naturally knows it herself."
Hearing this, Wen Huilin turned her head sharply to stare at him.
This was the first time she had looked directly at Chen Ang tonight.
She looked at the faint smile on Chen Ang's lips and knew that he was enjoying the process of torturing her.
This was revenge against her. He was stabbing her in the same way, with the same knife, just changing the direction of the blade.
"Chen Ang, what exactly do you want? This is our joint marital property; what good does this do you?" Her voice squeezed out from between her teeth, almost a low roar.
"We're family, why distinguish between yours and mine? Besides, we aren't short on this money, and Zhiyong also said it's a loan that will be paid back later."
Chen Ang picked up the teacup again, took a sip, and then looked at Wen Huilin, saying earnestly, "Huilin, life is short. Family ties are bonds that cannot be untied; we must learn to cherish them."
Wen Huilin stared fixedly at Chen Ang. What welled up in her eyes was not just anger, but a despair even deeper than anger.
At this moment, she finally understood that Chen Ang's acting was far superior to her own; he could act longer and more ruthlessly.
He had pulled her own family to his side, leaving her alone to face four greedy faces, unable to find even a single ally.
He had taken the moral high ground and was now looking down, accusing and denouncing her, leaving her speechless.
In an instant, the anger she could no longer hold back erupted, filling her eyes with bloodshot veins. Her lips trembling, she roared:
"You changed to a BMW, you signed up for three interest classes, you ate seafood feasts, you bought that five-hundred-thousand watch, and I paid the one-hundred-forty-thousand at the police station. You've spent so much money, and now you're coming to force me to take out the dowry."
"Are you trying to force me to die, right? Do you think I wouldn't dare?"
After berating Chen Ang, she turned to look at her parents. "Do you think Chen Ang is some kind of good person?"
She pointed at Chen Ang, her voice rising again, filled with a hysterical attitude, "He books hotels for you, treats you to meals, and puts on a good act in front of you."
"Do you know how he treats me behind your backs? He has hidden all the money; I can't get a single cent. He has spent all my money, and you are still speaking up for him."
"Just how stupid are you?"
