Chapter 76 Confronting His Mother

"Hello..." The sound of mahjong tiles clattering came from the other end of the line, along with someone shouting "Pong!"

Chen Ang stood by the main road, reached out to hail a taxi, and flicked his cigarette butt away. He asked, "When are you arriving?"

"The 6 AM train tomorrow morning, arriving around 4 PM. Have you got the money ready? Don't be like my sister and say you don't have it when the time comes."

"Discuss the money amongst yourselves, you siblings. I'll provide room and board." Chen Ang hung up the phone directly.

Wen Zhiyong: eats, drinks, whores, and gambles.

Xue Shanshan: materialistic and vain.

Wen Guodong: sinister and greedy.

Li Meifeng: foolish and ignorant.

With this family of vampires coming over, Chen Ang wanted to see how Wen Huilin would handle it.

Over the years, her family had borrowed between four and five hundred thousand from her under various pretexts.

If he hadn't insisted back then, those hundreds of thousands in bride price would have been scraped away by this family.

Now, Chen Ang wasn't going to play along anymore.

After telling the driver the address, Chen Ang realized he hadn't seen Wen Huilin and Chen Zetian come out.

He couldn't help but frown secretly, then immediately recalled that in his rage just now, he had choked Wen Huilin, and realized there was a hidden risk.

He took out his phone again and dialed the number of the Suiyuan Restaurant manager. After the call connected, he stated his identity directly and asked if there was surveillance outside the private room he had booked.

Chen Ang's VIP card had been issued by China Merchants Bank, and the manager knew that such VIPs were at the level of wealthy tycoons, so he dared not be negligent.

After asking the staff, he replied that a female guest in the private room had asked to access the surveillance footage, but they had refused.

Chen Ang felt a sense of relief; Wen Huilin really was trying to find leverage on him everywhere.

Choking her in a moment of impulse would likely be classified as domestic violence. Although it wouldn't have much impact, it was still a nuisance.

Chen Ang gave the manager a few instructions, and after the other party agreed, he hung up.

The taxi soon arrived at the hotel where his parents were staying.

After getting out of the car, Chen Ang went straight into the hotel.

His parents were with Chen Yijing, so Chen Zhuo had booked a two-bedroom suite. After entering, the warm yellow wall lamp in the living room was on.

Upon entering, he saw Chen Zhuo and his father drinking tea on the sofa, while Chen Yijing was obediently watching TV to the side.

"Chen Ang, come sit." Chen Zhonghui gestured for Chen Ang to sit down and chat.

Chen Ang nodded, "I'll go check on Mom first. You guys keep chatting."

Without waiting for Chen Zhonghui to speak again, he walked straight to the master bedroom.

Inside the room, Qu Suping was leaning against the headboard, with two pillows propped behind her. She had recovered quite a bit after taking her medicine, but her breathing was still shallower than usual.

Chen Ang poured a glass of warm water, placed it on the nightstand, and then sat down beside her.

He didn't speak immediately, just sat quietly for a good while.

Qu Suping knew what her son wanted to say to her; she didn't rush him, just waited quietly.

"Mom," Chen Ang began, "what I'm about to say might be very hard for you to hear, but I must say it."

Qu Suping didn't answer, just nodded.

Chen Ang took a deep breath and said slowly, "Mom, each of us is walking our own path in life. Parents can accompany us for a journey, but they cannot walk the entire path for us."

"Some hurdles must be crossed by oneself. You've worried about us for most of your life; from now on, you can let go. You need to enjoy your own life too."

Hearing her eldest son start with such a grand proposition, she knew the result she had suspected had arrived.

"Chen Ang, you also want to divorce, right?" Her voice was very soft and carried a hint of trembling.

"Yes." Chen Ang nodded in admission, "It's not something I just thought of now; I've wanted to for a long time."

Chen Ang reached out and held his mother's hand, continuing, "Wen Huilin has been cheating for at least two years. She has never considered the Chen family her home; she only treated me as a fallback option."

"Mom, you have to understand, she is not one of us. Forcing something others don't want will only make you feel stifled and upset. Why bother?"

Qu Suping closed her eyes and still didn't speak, just turned her face slightly away.

Chen Ang clearly saw the moisture in the corners of his mother's eyes, and his heart couldn't help but ache.

"Marriage isn't everything in life; there are still many things worth cherishing." Chen Ang patted his mother's hand, then took out his phone and unlocked it.

"Mom. Look at this." He turned the screen around.

Qu Suping leaned forward, took the phone, and looked down at it.

On the screen was a long string of numbers.

Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten-thousands... hundred-millions.

She counted three times before confirming that the number was nine digits long.

Her gaze was filled with shock and disbelief, "Chen Ang, is this all your money?"

Her voice was slightly distorted and trembling. Qu Suping tried her best to suppress her rising breath, and after speaking, she began to breathe heavily.

Chen Ang felt the strength with which his mother gripped his hand back. He sat a step closer and reached out to stroke his mother's back.

"You didn't misread it. I told you, I will handle the family's debts. We can go back to the life we had before, and you and Dad will never have to worry about debt again."

Chen Ang knew that bringing up grand principles to explain things wasn't as effective as revealing his net worth.

With Shen Pianran's appearance tonight, coupled with this huge number, no one would think Chen Ang's remaining life wouldn't be happy.

And Qu Suping's worries became insignificant from that point on.

Chen Ang had originally decided to have a showdown with his mother this time to prepare her, but Wen Huilin's intrusion had disrupted his plans.

Fortunately, his mother had managed to pull through without any serious issues.

"Xiao Ang, you have the ability now, Mom is very happy for you. But you must remember, money isn't everything. Don't forget how our family ended up like this."

After catching her breath, Qu Suping regained her composure. The heart that had been hanging in suspense for seven years had finally landed safely at this moment.

"Don't worry, Mom, I know what I'm doing." Chen Ang smiled and said, "You won't have to toil anymore. If you want to live in Bin City, I'll arrange it. If you want to return to our hometown, I'll renovate the old house."

"As for me and Chen Zhuo, you don't need to worry too much. We both have plans for our own futures."

Facing her eldest son's filial piety, Qu Suping could not hold back her tears after all.

But this time, they were tears of happiness.

After composing herself again, Qu Suping asked, "What are your plans regarding Wen Huilin?"

"Divorce is certain, and she can forget about getting any of my money." Chen Ang smiled lightly and added, "You should know her purpose behind her unusual behavior today, right?"

Qu Suping nodded slowly. She never had a good impression of Wen Huilin to begin with; if not for Chen Zetian, she might not have been close to Wen Huilin.

"So, don't believe a word she says. And definitely don't let your health suffer because of her."

Chen Ang stopped smiling. He believed that with his mother's intelligence, she could easily figure out Wen Huilin's logic.

"Get some good rest and don't overthink things. Next, I will arrange things for Dad and let him see the true faces of his siblings."

Qu Suping finally smiled, nodded, and then gently closed her eyes.

Chen Ang tucked her in, then walked out of the room, ready to teach his foolishly filial father a lesson.
