152: Fish on the hook
The Neon military moved swiftly; after receiving the call for help from the Metropolitan Police Department, several attack helicopters arrived over the National Bank in short order.
By this time, the Neon Police Officers on the ground had been virtually slaughtered to the last man by Li Huaishan and his two companions.
As the attack helicopters appeared overhead, they immediately launched an assault on the trio, their 20mm autocannons spitting tongues of fire directly at Li Huaishan and the others.
Li Huaishan and his team instantly raised their broad alloy shields. Shells slammed into the alloy, producing a continuous, ear-piercing din. Yet, even under such a fierce onslaught of firepower, the three did not retreat a single step.
"Are they truly human? Even if the armor they're wearing has incredible defensive capabilities, the impact force from autocannon shells isn't something a human should be able to withstand. Issue the order: we must capture these people. It doesn't matter if they are corpses; they must be hiding a massive secret!" A high-ranking official from the neon high command, who had arrived shortly after, watched the footage on the command center's large screen with greed in his eyes.
Many nations have conducted human genetic experiments; it's just that such practices are inhumane and publicly banned. Otherwise, for the general public, once that floodgate is opened, it would be a disaster. Of course, a public ban is not a private one, so many countries are still tinkering with these things in the shadows, and Neon is naturally no exception.
Genetic experimentation involves creating soldiers with superhuman combat capabilities or researching the extension of human life. The performance of Li Huaishan and his team had long since surpassed the known limits of the strongest humans, naturally drawing the covetous eyes of the neon high command.
However, these members of the neon high command were overthinking it. Just as they believed Li Huaishan and his team were suppressed and would be captured sooner or later, Li Huaishan used his actions to show them what a true monster looked like!
"You two protect yourselves; I'll deal with these attack helicopters!" Once the three of them had huddled together for a coordinated defense, Li Huaishan spoke in a calm tone.
"Understood!" Qin Gang and the other responded rapidly. Although the autocannons couldn't deal fatal damage to them, they indeed couldn't handle it with the same ease as Li Huaishan, so they didn't fight over the task of dealing with the helicopters.
After speaking, Li Huaishan took a deep breath, bent his knees slightly, and then kicked off the ground with force. Suddenly, his entire body shot into the sky like a cannonball!
As Li Huaishan leapt, the hard road surface where he stood looked as if it had been blasted apart, with two deep pits several dozen centimeters deep kicked out by his terrifying strength!
In the sky, the point from which Li Huaishan jumped was aimed directly at an attack helicopter. After his high leap, he actually reached a height greater than the hovering helicopter. The Neon pilot inside was stunned; by the time he reacted and tried to pull the control stick to move away from Li Huaishan, it was already too late. The two-meter-long giant blade in Li Huaishan's hand struck the helicopter's nose with precision. Bolstered by his immense strength, the sharp blade sliced through the nose section like a knife through tofu, cutting it clean in two!
The attack helicopter was instantly severely damaged. No matter how the pilot tried to control it, he could not change the fact that it was falling.
All of this happened in the blink of an eye, leaving no time for reaction. By the time anyone realized what was happening, Li Huaishan had already landed back on the ground. He immediately hurled his massive shield with great force at another attack helicopter that was trying to pull away. The shield hit the target like a bolt of lightning, piercing straight through it. The pilot inside was torn into shredded meat by the sheer force. Another attack helicopter crashed!
Inside the Neon command center, everyone was silent, unable to articulate the shock in their hearts. Just moments ago, they all thought the enemies' armor was simply exceptionally defensive and that the people wearing it were within a controllable range. They never expected Li Huaishan's explosive power to instantly take down two attack helicopters!
What the hell is the difference between this and Superman?
The group then looked toward the high-ranking military official. At this moment, the official was also staring at the scene with disbelief; he was stunned—how were they supposed to fight this?
On the other side, Li Huaishan didn't care about what the Neon people thought. After dealing with two attack helicopters, the remaining one saw things were going south and quickly pulled back to put distance between itself and the trio. Once the distance increased, its firepower was significantly compromised, and it could no longer effectively stop the three. Furthermore, Li Huaishan and his team were not stationary targets; they quickly charged toward a nearby area with a high density of people, making the military's attack helicopter hesitant to act. In the end, because there were so many civilians, it didn't dare to fire at will.
Under the watchful eyes of the public, the three ran into the crowd on the adjacent street. Although the ordinary people were terrified and wanted to stay away from them, this was the most prosperous district in Neon's capital. The daily flow of people was massive; while not quite shoulder-to-shoulder, it was terrifyingly dense, making it impossible to avoid them even if one wanted to.
As such, Li Huaishan and his team had no interest in slaughtering these civilians. Carried along by the flow of people, they quickly departed. As for the tracking by Neon officials, the military's ground troops had not yet arrived, and the Police Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department had long since been scared witless. Knowing that going forward meant certain death, only a fool would go. As for the attack helicopter in the air, it didn't dare get too close for fear of following in its companions' footsteps.
Thus, the three turned a corner into a narrow street, then quickly entered a building to change out of their equipment. Then, utilizing their far-beyond-human jumping abilities, they transformed into Spider-Men between the buildings and made their getaway!
By the time the Neon military's ground troops entered the area to search, they had long since lost all trace of the three. All the surveillance cameras along the street had been taken over by Xiao Jiu, making it impossible for the Neon side to lock onto their exact location... After some winding around, the three returned to the Neon Branch that night.
But on this day, the images the three left for the world were no less impactful than a nuclear bomb hitting a country.
Videos of the three fighting the Neon military and police began to go viral on the internet. Even with the Neon government's attempts to stop it, they could not effectively control it because too many people had recorded that shocking scene.
Several countries that received the news also began to take action, as this was the first time humanity had encountered supernatural phenomena so openly. Chopping down a helicopter with bare hands and jumping a hundred meters high—in everyone's eyes, this was simply not something a human could achieve. Every nation was desperate to know the truth of the matter!
In the middle of the night, at the Neon Branch, inside a safe house, Li Huaishan and his team were resting. Suddenly, all three of them bolted upright in their beds, their hands simultaneously reaching for the weapons beside them.
"Since you've come, why bother hiding?" Li Huaishan said calmly, looking toward the window of the safe house.
