122: Big sister, you can't pass here, buddy, please stop.

“You little rascal, you’re just trying to say I’m a jinx, aren’t you?”

“Hehe, I didn’t say that, the people at the Police Station did.”

“These people, all they know is to gossip behind my back,” He Xinmin grumbled.

Just as he was complaining, a loud argument erupted from the bridge entrance behind them, a clear female voice calling out:

“Why won’t you let me pass? There’s no one here now. Did you guys build this road?”

Ye Lin glanced over. At the bridgehead, Li Yushan and Yin Chaohua were blocking a middle-aged woman, preventing her from crossing.

“Madam, as you can see, the marathon is still ongoing, so you can’t cross,” Li Yushan explained.

The middle-aged madam didn’t care; she grabbed the iron railing, intending to pull it open. “What marathon? There’s no one left, is there?”

“Marathons every day for no reason. Don’t people have lives to live? Don’t they have to go to work?”

Seeing that the railing was about to be pulled open, Yin Chaohua quickly grabbed it to prevent the madam from getting through.

In reality, those who were meant to finish had already finished. There might have been a few individual participants purely challenging themselves, so letting one person through wouldn't have been a big deal.

However, no one dared to let her pass. If a leader saw it, it would be another scolding.

“What are you doing? I walk this road every day. Why are you blocking me?” Seeing Yin Chaohua hold the railing, the madam got angry and started yelling at Yin Chaohua.

At this moment, Ye Lin and He Xinmin also walked over.

He Xinmin also chimed in, trying to persuade her: “Madam, look, it won’t be much longer. Just another hour or so, and it’ll be fine. Can you wait a little longer?”

“Wait for what? If I wait, will my work wait for me? You people don’t understand the hardships of us common folk.” The madam rushed forward, completely ignoring He Xinmin.

The three of them were helpless now. She was a female Comrade, so they couldn’t get physical. Moreover, there were marathon staff nearby, so using coercive measures also felt inappropriate. They could only block her with their bodies.

“Get out of the way! Is this how you People’s Police serve the people? Are you going to let people live?” Seeing that the police didn’t dare to arrest her, the madam became even more arrogant, using her robust body to forcefully bump into He Xinmin.

Poor He Xinmin was not young anymore. Although he was a male, he was still in pain all over his body from being bumped by this madam, and it looked like he was about to lose his composure.

As the unruly madam caused a scene, the surrounding onlookers also started to jeer.

They had long forgotten how they had applauded just moments ago, now cheering on the madam.

Ye Lin originally didn’t want to intervene, but it seemed he had no choice.

Suddenly, his eyes scanned the crowd, and a reflection flashed into his eyes.

Ye Lin shielded his eyes with his hand and looked. It was caused by the reflection from a watch.

The owner of the watch was a young man, dressed very ordinarily, completely inconspicuous in the crowd.

He was watching with excitement as the madam bravely challenged the three police officers, his hands uncontrollably waving as if he himself were in battle.

And it was these few waves that, under the reflection of the sun, flashed into Ye Lin’s eyes.

A watch with a blue dial, no diamonds on the surface, looked completely unremarkable, but Ye Lin still frowned involuntarily.

After sizing up the young man once more, Ye Lin then walked over with a puzzled expression.

“Comrade, come here for a moment,” Ye Lin tugged at the young man.

This person was still immersed in the spectacle and hadn’t reacted yet. When Ye Lin called him, he finally noticed that he had been stopped by the police.

A flicker of panic crossed his eyes, but he quickly composed himself.

“Officer, I was just watching the fun. I didn’t break any laws. Is that not allowed?” the young man said with an annoyed look.

“Exactly! Do we have to be managed even for watching the fun? You police officers are too meddlesome!”

“You only know how to control us ordinary people.”

Under the young man’s instigating words, the surrounding crowd expressed strong dissatisfaction with Ye Lin’s actions, and their voices grew louder.

Seeing that he had gained everyone’s support, the young man showed a smug expression, his eyes darted around, and he pretended to be magnanimous, saying, “Fine, fine, everyone’s been tired all day. Since I’m not allowed to watch, I’ll leave. That’s fine, right?”

With that, he turned to walk away.

“Oh, these young people nowadays are so sensible.”

“Look at you police officers. People’s Police should consider the people.”

Several elderly men and women began to criticize indiscriminately, leaving Ye Lin truly speechless. In this day and age, there was no shortage of people who only knew how to talk but not work.

He darted through the crowd, squeezed past, grabbed the young man who was about to leave, and said sternly, “Comrade, please cooperate with the investigation.”

The young man, who had been grinning, changed his expression drastically after being grabbed by Ye Lin. With his back to Ye Lin, he feigned helplessness and said:

“I give up, I give up, alright? I’ll cooperate with you, okay?”

When Ye Lin heard he would cooperate, he let go, as there were so many people watching.

Unexpectedly, as soon as Ye Lin’s hand left him, this guy, like a loach, ducked down and slipped through the crowd.

“Damn it!” Ye Lin cursed loudly, realizing he had been careless.

“Stop! Don’t run! Police!” Ye Lin shouted, pushing through the crowd and giving chase.

The three people over there were still trying to persuade the madam, who suddenly glanced over and pointed at the track with dissatisfaction, saying:

“Hey, hey, look, look closely! You won’t let me in, but how did that person get in?”

The three of them looked back and exclaimed, “What the heck!”

They saw a young man, who had somehow slipped onto the track, running desperately.

While the three were still bewildered, they suddenly heard an angry roar: “You scoundrel, you dare to enter the track!”

No sooner had the voice fallen than a figure jumped onto the track, dressed in a police uniform – it was Ye Lin.

“Something’s wrong, we have a situation!” He Xinmin shouted and rushed over.

The Comrades from the Police Station moved, so the traffic police couldn’t lag behind either.

Li Yushan sternly told the madam, “We are going to catch someone now. If you dare to enter, we’ll arrest you too.”

The fierce gaze combined with the threatening tone instantly made the madam back down. She grumbled, “Really arrest me? If you really arrest me, I won’t cross. I’ll wait.”

There were hardly any people left on the track, and many of the surrounding spectators had dispersed, but quite a few were still standing outside the line, chatting.

After running a few steps, the young man realized something was wrong. This was too conspicuous! Nearly a hundred people were watching him. How could he possibly run like this?

So he turned around, intending to cross the protective barrier on the opposite side.

However, he wasn’t tall enough to vault over in one go, so he had to climb.

He had just climbed onto the railing, and was about to swing over, when someone suddenly shouted,

“Watch out!”

The guy instinctively turned his head.
