72: Temporary vacation, go home to visit relatives

Ye Lin lay in the hospital for a week, so long that his body felt weak, and he could finally be discharged.

During this time, Gao Dawen visited again. He had already reported the situation Ye Lin described to Zhu Yi.

Director Zhu took it very seriously, and the guy whose car was stolen that day came forward and forgave Ye Lin, so he had already ordered Ye Lin to be reinstated.

Ye Lin cheered, he could finally be reinstated! Sang Rong, where will you run now?

"However..." Gao Dawen drew out his words, "There's a slight problem with your transfer to the Branch Bureau."

"Ah? Why? Director Zhu doesn't agree?" Ye Lin looked surprised. It wasn't that he necessarily wanted to climb the ranks at the Branch Bureau; he simply thought it would be easier to investigate Sang Rong from there.

Logically, the transfer of a small police officer like him could be decided by the Branch Bureau Director, so why was there a problem now?

"It's not Director Zhu. Director Zhu already nodded, but he received a call from the City's Deputy Mayor. He spoke very subtly, saying that some Comrades were too impulsive and needed more tempering and training at the grassroots level." Gao Dawen gave a bitter laugh, "So Director Zhu had no choice but to let you stay at the Police Station."

When leaders speak, they're never direct. They beat around the bush, saying things that are both vague and very direct.

"Deputy Mayor?" Ye Lin was a bit confused, "I don't know anyone from the City."

"I don't know why either. Just stay at Baiyun Police Station for now, and I'll transfer you to the Branch Bureau when the time is right."

"As for the matter of Sang Rong that you mentioned, I'll have Yu Haifeng start investigating it first."

Ye Lin was speechless. Damn, when did he offend a Deputy Mayor?

However, seeing Gao Dawen's helpless expression, Ye Lin could only swallow his anger. It was no big deal; he would just investigate cases from the Police Station...

The day Ye Lin returned to the Police Station, Xie Changkun and Huang Xuliang joyfully welcomed him back.

Heh heh, if you can't transfer Ye Lin to the Branch Bureau, don't blame us. With Ye Lin at the Police Station, we won't have to worry about achievements.

The credit for this kidnapping case was basically settled. The Xishan Branch Bureau and the Chengnan Branch Bureau took the lion's share, and the Police Station also got a taste of the profits. Now, Xie Changkun's political achievements looked exceptionally good, and all of this was thanks to our handsome Ye Lin.

With the achievements, the 'thug-like' appearance that Xie Changkun used to dislike about Ye Lin now made him a hot commodity. Chief Xie couldn't wait to embrace him and take a bite.

Although Ye Lin was discharged, his left leg hadn't fully recovered. To protect his precious asset, Chief Xie waved his hand: "Go on vacation."

And so, Lin Xianfeng, who had thought he'd have company with Ye Lin's return, could only watch his roommate go home for vacation, and he was back to living alone...

The Ye family was a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in the provincial capital, owning an old ancestral home.

However, Ye Lin and his family didn't live there. He lived with his parents in a three-story villa with a small courtyard, located near the City center in the provincial capital.

This house was bought by the Wang family for tens of millions, but it wasn't much for them.

As soon as Ye Lin entered the house, his mother, Wang Yuanfeng, rushed out and hugged her son, showering him with affection.

"Son, you're finally back! Your mom was so worried. I heard there were a lot of gunfights where you were."

Behind Wang Yuanfeng stood Ye Lin's father, Ye Guolin, with a completely expressionless face, a typical old-fashioned type.

"Mom, what are you afraid of with your son? He's a menace, he won't die."

"You admit you're a menace, and you still went to the Police Academy?" Ye Guolin said with a stern face.

"Ye Guolin, are you never going to stop? My son is willing to dedicate himself to the country because he has ideals and beliefs. Stop your nagging!" Wang Yuanfeng retorted domineeringly.

In this family, Wang Yuanfeng was truly at the top of the food chain; his father had always been obedient.

Ye Guolin snorted, showing his displeasure, but said nothing more.

"Come, hurry in! Tell Mom how you've been doing lately. Do you have a girlfriend?" Wang Yuanfeng happily linked arms with her son and walked inside.

Although Ye Guolin still had that sour face, he was actually concerned about Ye Lin's life; he just found it hard to express.

Back home, Ye Lin chatted with his mother for a while, choosing to talk about some lighter cases. He didn't dare mention the life-and-death situations, especially getting shot in the leg. If he had, his mother probably would have kept him confined at home.

"Mom, what's my uncle been up to lately?" Ye Lin suddenly thought of his dear uncle.

"Your uncle recently started a game company. It seems he's developed a few games. I don't know what got into him to start making games. I heard your grandfather gave him a good beating."

"Oh." Ye Lin was speechless. 'Uncle, it seems your nephew caused you trouble.'

"Ye Lin, after lunch, come with me to your grandfather's place. It's been a long time since we visited." During lunch, Ye Guolin said seriously.

"Okay, I haven't seen Grandpa in a long time either."

Ye Lin's grandfather, Ye Dingguo, lived in the old ancestral home. As a famous old traditional Chinese medicine doctor in the provincial capital, he basically no longer saw patients and usually just tended to flowers in his courtyard.

Upon seeing his grandson, Ye Dingguo's usually calm face immediately contorted into an angry expression, and he turned his head, about to go inside.

"Oh, Grandpa, your grandson came to see you, and you're running away? Scared, are you?" Ye Lin saw the old man about to run and chased after him with a whoosh.

The old man had doted on Ye Lin since he was little, so Ye Lin always spoke to him without formality.

Ye Lin blocked Ye Dingguo's path, a playful smile on his face, "My dear Grandpa, your grandson is back to see you."

The old man tried hard to keep his face stern, still wanting to maintain his angry demeanor.

But looking at Ye Lin's lively appearance, he really couldn't stay angry.

He could only say grumpily, "So you still remember to come back, huh? Don't you like being a police officer?"

"Grandpa, look, my Third-Class Merit medal, earned for catching thieves." Ye Lin pulled out the Third-Class Merit medal and showed it off in front of his grandfather.

The old man scoffed, then, taking advantage of Ye Lin's inattention, snatched the medal and happily played with it.

But his mouth was as stubborn as ever, "It's just one Third-Class Merit, what's there to show off about?"

Heh heh, Ye Lin didn't argue. He put an arm around the old man, and they walked into the house like two brothers.

Watching from behind, Ye Guolin shook his head. His own father, he was truly speechless, completely subdued by his son.

And he himself was completely subdued by his father. It truly was a case of one thing conquering another.

As soon as they entered, Ye Lin's grandmother, Zhao Hongyan, walked over, "I knew there was a crow cawing this morning; turns out my good grandson has arrived."

"Your grandpa, he talks about you a lot, especially since you became a police officer. The old man was worried sick."
