175: No one lives here, so I'll just hide away.
Blue Garden Community was an old, dilapidated residential area in the old city. Chen Bin's apartment was in Room 601, Unit 2, Building 5, which was on the top floor.
Ye Lin wandered around downstairs, then stealthily climbed onto the roof of the opposite building to observe. All the windows of the apartment were closed, making it impossible to see anything inside.
There was no other way; he could only send an auxiliary police officer.
The auxiliary police officer, Xiao Sun, got a set of delivery clothes, picked up a box of barbecue, and went up.
A camera was installed at the door of Room 601. Xiao Sun looked up at it, then started knocking, "Your takeout has arrived. Please open the door."
After several knocks, there was no response from inside.
"Keep knocking, act impatient," Ye Lin directed through the earpiece.
Xiao Sun nodded and began to pound hard on the door.
Several loud bangs echoed.
"Takeout's here! Is anyone home? Come out and get it!" Xiao Sun shouted loudly.
But there was still no response from inside.
"Leader, it seems like no one's inside," Xiao Sun whispered into the earpiece.
Just then, the door of 602 opposite opened, and an old woman came out, scolding Xiao Sun fiercely, "Why are you so loud? Can't you knock properly? I'm sitting inside, and you're making too much noise."
Xiao Sun quickly apologized, "Auntie, I'm sorry. I'm just delivering food, and if they don't come out to collect it, I can't complete the order. I'm about to go overtime and get docked pay, so I was a bit anxious."
The old woman snorted, "Even if you're in a hurry, you can't disturb our normal rest."
"Besides, no one lives opposite. Are you sure you didn't deliver to the wrong address?"
"Huh? No one lives here?" Xiao Sun asked, following up.
"This is where they store things; no one really lives here. They just occasionally drop off some stuff. You must have the wrong address," the old woman said impatiently.
"Fall back," Ye Lin commanded through the earpiece. That's enough; knowing that no one lives here is sufficient.
Xiao Sun picked up the delivery slip, glanced at it, and said, "Building 5, Unit 1, 601, I didn't get it wrong."
"This is Unit 2, not Unit 1. Young man, your eyesight isn't very good for your age," the old woman grumbled again, then slammed the door shut.
Xiao Sun, carrying the takeout, pretended to rush downstairs.
"We need to go in and check. I think there's something strange about this apartment," Ye Lin said. "This is an old, dilapidated community, mostly inhabited by elderly people who aren't particularly wealthy. Few people install surveillance cameras at their doors."
"I checked earlier, and there are some, but not many," Yu Haifeng responded.
Ye Lin: "According to the old woman across the hall, this apartment is used for storage. There's no need to install surveillance in an uninhabited apartment used for storage."
"It's a shame we don't know what's inside. The apartment belongs to Chen Bin, and he's still the Police Station chief, so we can't just barge in," Team Leader Yu said, a bit troubled.
"Team Leader Yu, I'll take a look tonight. See if I can find a way to get in," Ye Lin said.
"All its windows are closed. How do you get in without breaking a window?" Old Zhao asked, puzzled.
"Don't worry, I'll definitely keep the doors and windows intact. I'm just going to look around; I won't cause any trouble," Ye Lin promised.
In truth, it wasn't that Yu Haifeng and the others were cowardly; it was simply that Chen Bin was still in his position, and as part of the same system, breaking in without concrete evidence could easily create a negative impression within the police force.
It was possible that if no evidence was found, his colleagues would gossip about him. Family members causing trouble for other family members was despised everywhere.
With Ye Lin's assurance, Yu Haifeng didn't say much more; Ye Lin was reliable.
Once the plan to investigate 601 at night was set, the group withdrew, patiently waiting for night to fall.
Around seven or eight in the evening, the Blue Garden Community was at its liveliest. Elderly men and women danced downstairs, walked and chatted together, enjoying themselves immensely.
However, the elderly went to bed early. After ten o'clock, they gradually returned home, and after a simple wash-up, more and more room lights went out.
By around eleven o'clock, most of the apartments had their lights off, except for a few still illuminated.
The previously bright and lively community suddenly became dark and quiet.
At this moment, a figure appeared downstairs at Unit 2, Building 5. It was Ye Lin, who had come to investigate.
He walked up the stairs of Unit 2 to the fifth floor. Going any higher would be the sixth floor, where there was surveillance, so he couldn't go up further.
Ye Lin activated the [Spider Gloves] from the system and chose to use them.
Immediately, Ye Lin felt a thin layer of spider silk grow on both his palms, sticky to the touch.
Ye Lin climbed out of the stairwell window, pressed both hands against the wall, and the spider silk firmly adhered to it. Using both hands, Ye Lin climbed from the fifth floor to the sixth floor along the wall like a spider.
601 was a two-bedroom, one-living room apartment. It had two bedrooms and a living room. Ye Lin, under the cover of Night Vision, climbed to the outside of a window and tried to pry it open, but it was useless; it wouldn't budge at all. The window must have been locked from the inside.
Unless he broke the window, he definitely couldn't get in.
Frustrated, Ye Lin could only search for another entry point.
Suddenly, he climbed from the outside wall to the bathroom. Because it was an old building, this window was still the old-fashioned type that pushed outwards.
The characteristic of this type of window was that it opened upwards, but not very wide, only revealing a gap of about a dozen centimeters, certainly not enough for a person to squeeze through.
However, this didn't stump Ye Lin, because he had another extraordinary skill: Bone Shrinking Technique.
Ye Lin's body suddenly crackled, and as his bones shifted, his body instantly shrank by nearly thirty percent, becoming flattened.
Ye Lin pressed both hands against the inside of the window and pulled hard, his entire body squeezing through the narrow gap.
Perhaps Chen Bin never imagined that someone could squeeze through such a small opening, which is why he left this window as it was.
After entering the room, Ye Lin deactivated the Spider Gloves. He didn't turn on the light; it was too bright and could attract attention, and his Night Vision skill was sufficient for him to see clearly in the small space.
Ye Lin entered through the bathroom. Although it was an old, dilapidated place, it had a wet and dry separation. He had climbed down by stepping on the toilet.
The bathroom floor was very dry, and there were already some cobwebs in the corners of the walls, indicating that no one had lived there for a long time.
The sink was empty; there was no toothbrush holder or towel. It really seemed like the old woman had said—no one lived here.
The pitch-black room contained nothing but a faint sliver of light filtering in from outside. Ye Lin pulled open the bathroom door, revealing a combined living and dining room.
Because the area was small, the living room and dining room were together.
A square table leaned against the wall as a dining table, with only a few empty water glasses on it. Ye Lin gently wiped it with his hand, revealing a layer of dust, indicating it hadn't been used.
