195: A murder committed by an honest man
Zhao Dashan stood at the doorway, his face flushed, clearly having had a bit to drink. He was probably drunk and looking to cause trouble. Such cowards should be made to realize what they truly are.
The other three men, seeing it was Zhao Dashan, also sneered. Da Hu was about to go over and chase Zhao Dashan away.
Zhao Haiquan stood up, reeking of alcohol, and said, "I'll handle him."
He staggered over to Zhao Dashan, tilted his head, and laughed, "Nephew Dashan, what's wrong? Got too much money and want to give us more?"
"Ah, haha." Zhao Haiquan raised his right hand and lightly patted Zhao Dashan's face, a triumphant smile on his lips.
Zhao Dashan stood there like an idiot, taking the slaps to his face from Zhao Haiquan without trying to dodge.
Seeing Zhao Dashan's submissive demeanor, the other three men at the table exchanged glances and burst into laughter.
A bear is a bear; did he think a little alcohol could turn him into a hero?
Zhao Haiquan, tired of hitting the foolish and unresisting Zhao Dashan, delivered one final hard slap and then shouted, "Get lost, you bastard!"
The previously numb Zhao Dashan suddenly reacted upon hearing the word "bastard."
He let out a bestial roar from his throat, his eyes instantly turning blood-red, and he yelled, "I don't want to live anymore!"
Then, the cleaver hidden behind him arced through the air and heavily struck Zhao Haiquan's shoulder.
Zhao Dashan was not weak, and with the alcohol, his explosive power was even greater. With one chop, the entire cleaver became embedded in Zhao Haiquan's shoulder.
Zhao Haiquan first froze, looking incredulously at the cleaver in his shoulder. What was happening?
I've been chopped?
Then, a piercing pain spread throughout his body.
"Ah—" He cried out miserably, his legs gave way, and he directly knelt down. Blood spurted from his shoulder, instantly staining most of his body red.
A stream of blood directly sprayed from Zhao Haiquan onto Zhao Dashan's face, and a bloody scent filled his nostrils.
Blood, this was the smell of blood.
Far from being afraid, Zhao Dashan became even more excited at the sight of blood.
He gripped the cleaver, kicked Zhao Haiquan to the ground, and then swung the cleaver in a full circle, bringing it down on Zhao Haiquan's face.
The cleaver deeply embedded itself in Zhao Haiquan's skull. Zhao Haiquan's eyes were wide open, staring fixedly at Zhao Dashan. Until his death, he couldn't understand how this coward had changed.
"Dad!"
"Dad!"
"Old Zhao!"
Only then did the three people at the dinner table react. Zhao Haiquan, who had just been drinking with them, had died right before their eyes.
He was killed by this honest, cowardly Zhao Dashan.
Da Hu grabbed a wine bottle from the table and hurled it at Zhao Dashan.
Zhao Dashan roared, not dodging, and met it with a headbutt. A dull thud echoed as the bottle smashed hard against Zhao Dashan's head, instantly creating a gash from which blood flowed.
With a clang, the wine bottle fell to the ground, shattering into pieces.
In pain, Zhao Dashan suddenly let out a loud cry. With a surge of unknown strength, he stomped on Zhao Haiquan's face and forcefully pulled, yanking the cleaver directly out of Zhao Haiquan's face.
Immediately, he spun around, the cleaver tracing a semicircle in the air along his body, and then swung it hard into the back of Da Hu's head.
Da Hu grunted, his face collapsing onto the dinner table, a large bloody gash appearing on the back of his head.
Zhao Dashan was now covered in blood, like someone pulled from a sea of blood, a sight that filled people with fear.
Er Hu and Chief Li saw that things were going badly. This guy was a bit too fierce, and they instinctively recoiled.
"Don't come any closer, I... I have a gun." Chief Li fumbled desperately at his waist. He had indeed brought a gun today, but being drunk, he couldn't unfasten the button.
"A gun! You want to kill me? What kind of police are you, only knowing how to conspire with the village chief to exploit me, and now you want to kill me? I'll kill you first!"
Zhao Dashan covered the distance in two strides and chopped down at Chief Li.
Poor Chief Li was still fumbling with his button when Zhao Dashan's cleaver struck him in the neck, and arterial blood spurted out like a fountain.
"Ah—ah—" Chief Li trembled, trying to cover the wound, but there was no way to stop it. In just a few seconds, a large pool of blood had formed on the ground.
Zhao Dashan let the blood flow to his feet. He sneered, then with a swift movement of his hand, brought the cleaver down, striking Chief Li to the ground.
At this point, Er Hu, the only one left alive, was terrified. Although he was a good fighter, that was only for bullying honest villagers, at most a few cuts; he had never killed anyone.
Especially with such a bloody scene, three people dead, blood everywhere, and the entire room permeated with the smell of blood.
Er Hu collapsed to the ground, feeling his stomach churn.
With a retch, he threw up directly. Few people could endure such a smell.
Zhao Dashan squatted down and unholstered a police pistol from Chief Li's waist. It came with a magazine.
He smiled, mimicking what he'd seen on TV, pulled back the slide to chamber a round, then turned the muzzle to point at Er Hu in the corner.
Er Hu, having finished vomiting, saw the gun pointed at him and, terrified, knelt before Zhao Dashan.
"Brother Shan, don't kill me. It was all my dad's and my brother's idea, and that Chief Li too, it was all their idea. I didn't mean to go against you."
"Please spare me, spare me!"
Er Hu continuously kowtowed to Zhao Dashan, begging for his life. Fear of death is human nature, and he was afraid too.
At this moment, Zhao Dashan had sobered up from his drunken state, his mind clearing somewhat. He coldly looked around. It was as if he had done all of this.
He had killed people, he had committed a crime.
But he didn't seem to regret it. These people deserved to die.
Zhao Dashan again raised the pistol and aimed it at Er Hu.
Bang!
A crisp gunshot, masked by the lively dinner tables in each household, was taken as an ordinary firecracker sound and vanished into the night.
At this moment, Er Hu had a large, black hole in his forehead, blood gurgling out. His eyes gradually lost their luster, and he fell down.
Having completed all of this, Zhao Dashan completely calmed down. Looking at the four people lying on the ground and the blood everywhere, killing was undoubtedly a capital crime. He didn't want to clean up; he would just wait for people to come and arrest him.
He casually picked up the wine from the table and took a few more sips, then ate two pieces of meat. He had to admit, the meat was delicious, much better than instant noodles.
Unknowingly, he had been eating for a few minutes. Zhao Dashan realized that no one had come; it seemed no one had noticed the gunshot.
At that moment, the sound of children playing with firecrackers outside rang out, and he understood that the gunshot must have been mistaken for a firecracker.
He laughed, a bit self-deprecatingly.
It seemed no one cared about the lives of these four people.
It was Chinese New Year, and everyone was busy celebrating.
He put down the wine bottle and the meat. He had eaten his fill, and now it was time for him to leave.
He picked up the police pistol and the cleaver, then walked out of the house.
The night was dark, and the moon was round.
The sound of firecrackers continued, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Zhao Dashan walked into the darkness, his figure gradually disappearing.
