7: Community police's first patrol
The Branch Bureau has been very supportive of our station.
This year, they specifically allocated two top graduates from the Police Academy to us: one is Lin Xianfeng, and the other is Ye Lin.
Everyone, please welcome them!”
A round of neat applause erupted.
Ye Lin’s heart instantly swelled with pride; this applause, he thought, must be for his earlier cheer.
“Instructor, you’re too kind; that’s just what we should do, hahahaha,” Ye Lin said loudly.
Everyone was stunned.
“Big brother, what did the Instructor say?”
“Too kind about what?”
Huang Xuliang froze for a moment.
“What did I just say? Did I read the wrong script?”
“Cough, cough!” Xie Changkun understood immediately when he saw the Instructor’s expression; he was about to be led astray by Ye Lin again, so he quickly coughed to remind him.
“Hey, Xiao Ye is very humorous.
Well, everyone, please introduce yourselves,” Huang Xuliang changed the subject.
“He Xinmin, I’ve been at Baiyun Police Station for 20 years, mainly responsible for liaising with community residents.”
“Zhang Degen, I’m in charge of the Criminal Police Team.
It’s very exciting, kid.”
“He Wenyan, I handle household registration.”
“You two listen up, Older Sister He is our golden matchmaker here.
She has a ton of girls on hand, your happiness for the rest of your lives depends on her,” Huang Xuliang interjected.
There was nothing to be done; although the police profession offered stable pay, the people themselves weren’t stable, especially when things got busy, they didn’t even know where they were.
Therefore, finding a partner was a long-standing problem for the police force.
When Huang Xuliang said He Wenyan was a golden matchmaker, he wasn’t exaggerating at all; almost half of the old and young people at the station had been introduced by He Wenyan.
One reason was that she handled household registration and was familiar with people in various communities; another was that she understood the situation well, and could tell at a glance which girls were willing to marry a police officer.
With the Instructor’s praise, He Wenyan, who hadn’t intended to speak, had no choice but to force a smile.
“You two young men are on me.”
In her heart, she was secretly cursing, “Damn it, Huang Xuliang, you old fox, Lin Xianfeng is one thing, but for Ye Lin, my old lady can’t find a suitable girl.”
Lin Xianfeng smiled shyly.
Ye Lin grinned widely and shamelessly said, “Older Sister, I like pretty ones, with curves.”
He Wenyan’s face darkened, and she perfunctorily said, “No problem, leave it to Older Sister.”
“Damn it, I don’t care what you like.”
“Want me to introduce someone to you? No way.”
“With that hooligan-like appearance, isn’t he just going to harm some girl?”
Next, there were Xiao Xu and Shi Tou, a few younger police officers, and several auxiliary police officers.
Seeing that almost everyone had introduced themselves, Huang Xuliang was very satisfied; the atmosphere was lively.
“Xiao Lin, Xiao Ye, once you join our station, you’re family.
We have single dormitories in the back; if you don’t have a place to stay, you can live in the dorms.”
“As for work arrangements, we’ll listen to Chief Xie.”
Xie Changkun cleared his throat and stood up.
“Well, our station has quite a few older Comrades, and given our geographical location, there are all sorts of things to deal with, so we’ve always been short-staffed.”
“This time, the Branch Bureau leaders fully considered our difficulties and sent us two elite officers.”
“Our station has always followed the old-leading-new approach.
Xiao Lin, Zhang Degen will mentor you; Xiao Ye, Old He will mentor you.”
Zhang Degen made a victory sign and smiled provocatively at Old He.
“No, Chief Xie, our community urgently needs a…”
Old He suddenly trailed off.
How could he say it? Say that Ye Lin looked too much like a hooligan?
Looking at Xiao Ye’s expectant little eyes, Old He suddenly couldn’t continue.
“Alas, it’s also pitiful for a child to look like this.”
“Wouldn’t it be too cruel if I disliked him even more?”
“What’s wrong, Old He? Do you have any objections?” Xie Changkun blinked hard.
“Ah, our…”
“Our community needs young blood like Xiao Ye.”
“Welcome, Xiao Ye.”
Old He finished his words against his conscience in one breath, then lowered his head, shedding bitter tears.
Chief Xie smiled contentedly, finally having managed to assign this difficult one.
“This time, Comrade Ye Lin’s quick wit and courage deserve commendation.
The station will report the commendation materials to the Branch Bureau.”
“Work hard, you are a talent.”
“Old He, mentor him well.”
Old He mumbled a perfunctory “En, en.”
“If you want me to mentor him well, why don’t you mentor him yourself?”
After the meeting, Lin Xianfeng was embraced by Zhang Degen and taken away for mentoring like a treasure.
Old He looked at Ye Lin, pointed to a spot for him, “You can look at thematerial first; I’ll take you for a walk on the street later.”
Ye Lin opened the computer, which made a series of “ga ga” noises, sounding as if the fan was about to smoke.
After waiting for 5 minutes, the computer screen still hadn’t displayed anything when Old He came out.
“Xiao Ye, let’s go.
I’ll take you to our community below to walk around and understand the local situation.”
“Alrighty!” Ye Lin happily put on his police uniform.
Instantly, the station hall fell silent.
How did that saying go? Even wearing a dragon robe, one doesn’t look like a crown prince—that describes you perfectly.
Although Ye Lin was dressed impeccably, his flowing middle-parted hair, combined with his hooligan-like face, always made people feel out of place.
Ye Lin, however, was thick-skinned.
“Damn it, what’s there to be afraid of? This is my style.”
He swaggered out behind Old He, not forgetting to give everyone a backward glance before leaving.
His flowing hair was just that elegant.
“Xiao Ye, our Baiyun Police Station is located in the urban-rural fringe, with a complex mix of people; you’ll find all sorts here.”
“Normally, we mainly go into the communities, helping residents solve some difficult problems.”
Old He started to open up.
No matter who was next to him, at least he had someone to chat with now, which was better than walking around alone before.
“Chief He, you’re here again.”
“Old He, buy some bones to take back; the bones are excellent today.”
Everyone they met along the way was an acquaintance, and Old He always stopped to chat with them for a few minutes.
However, each time these acquaintances looked at Ye Lin with strange eyes.
“Old He, is this a police officer?”
Old He’s face darkened.
“Get lost.
This is our new Comrade at the station, Officer Ye.”
“Hello, Officer Ye.”
Ye Lin didn’t mind at all; he was used to it.
“Hello, Comrades.”
“This young Comrade is quite interesting.”
After a few minutes of chatting, everyone got used to his appearance; after all, the uniform he wore couldn’t be fake.
“Up ahead is Hengxi Village, the largest urban village around here.
It hasn’t been demolished yet, and there are many small workshops, processing factories, and the like inside.”
“Over there are the resettlement housing communities, Baiyun Garden Districts One, Two, and Three.
Besides local residents, there are also many migrant renters, leading to frequent neighbor disputes.”
“This area is retained land, not yet developed.
People always plant vegetables here, and no matter how much you try to drive them away, they won’t leave.”
