217: Strange giant beast

At this very moment, Shen Bei and the others, after handling the crisis in Changtu County, returned to the North Mountain Town frontline, covered in blood.

Shen Bei’s gaze swept across the frontline.

Within the frontline, after the artillery bombardment, countless Vicious Beast corpses were piled high.

The air was filled with the stench of blood, the smoke of gunpowder, and the smell of burnt flesh, all mixed together.

It made people want to vomit.

A large number of Martial Artists began to enter the field, clearing out the stragglers.

Although most of the Vicious Beasts had fallen under the artillery fire, a certain number of them still survived.

Some were completely unharmed, while others were barely clinging to life.

These all needed to be pinpointed and eliminated by Martial Artists.

Of course, the warnings from commanders Yu Qi and Chen Guoan constantly echoed across the battlefield, cautioning the Martial Artists not to be careless and to avoid being ambushed by Vicious Beasts, lest they suffer unexpected setbacks.

Despite this, some Martial Artists were successfully ambushed by desperate Vicious Beasts and died on the spot.

Fortunately, such losses were still within the acceptable range for humans.

“After being a Martial Artist for so long, I’d forgotten the power of thermal weapons,” Qi Chuanyu said, looking at the pockmarked battlefield and the piles of corpses, swallowing hard. “When we left, there were a lot of Vicious Beasts. Now, they’re mostly cleared out. How much money must that have cost?”

Shen Bei rolled his eyes. “A Gatling gun costs 150 for New Year’s, let alone a missile. In this short time, they must have fired off a Jack Ma’s worth. It costs more than burning offerings at a grave.”

Qi Chuanyu: …

Such words, how sad Jack Ma would be, as if he wasn't worth anything.

“You think I should also get a thermal weapon, like a pistol or something?” Qi Chuanyu continued to ask.

Shen Bei pressed his hand down. “Artillery shells are your eternal master. For a Martial Artist, bullets are just grandchildren.”

“Seriously, if talking could make money, you wouldn’t earn a single cent.”

Qi Chuanyu’s teeth ached, and he couldn’t be bothered to talk to Shen Bei.

He was too infuriating.

Shen Bei’s team, having just returned from the county, received orders to rest temporarily.

They would prepare to face the impact of the Otherworlders later.

These were standard, old routines.

The Otherworlder impact required Martial Artists to push forward completely, engaging in close-quarters combat.

After all, the Martial Skills of Otherworlders were unpredictable; bullets might be useful, but not very effective.

Deploying Martial Artists, boosting morale, and pushing through in one go was the kingly way to victory.

Of course, a greater reason was that Martial Artists had to maintain high spirits when entering the Dungeon, striving to gain a foothold and establish a temporary base in one go.

Only by securing a base would this Dungeon defense battle be considered over.

Otherwise, the fighting would have to continue endlessly.

The longest defensive battle in the country so far lasted a full six months, resulting in countless casualties, before they managed to occupy a corner of the Dungeon and establish a frontline position.

Everyone hoped that this Dungeon defense battle would not last too long; otherwise, it would be an extreme test of endurance and a matter of life and death.

At this moment, Shen Bei checked his backpack and asked the others, “Are all your Medicinal Pills prepared?”

The three nodded.

Shen Bei took out several bottles of Medicinal Pills and gave them to Jian Tong. “Don’t save them. Use them liberally. I’ll support you.”

Jian Tong smiled knowingly. “This isn’t what I asked for, you offered it.”

Shen Bei joked, “It doesn’t count towards the betrothal gift.”

“There are people around, don’t talk nonsense,” Jian Tong’s face flushed.

Qi Chuanyu, on the side, was so sour his teeth hurt. He gave a thumbs-up. “Awesome, awesome. In such a Killing Intent-filled setting, you can still flirt. You’re like a character from an anti-Japanese drama, can’t live without romance, huh?”

Liao Zhongyang also nodded. “It is a bit excessive.”

Jian Tong giggled, her body shaking with laughter, her full chest trembling. “Single dog, you have no right to speak, shut up.”

“Hey, hey, what kind of talk is that? It makes no sense!” Qi Chuanyu retorted.

Shen Bei pressed his hand down. “You don’t understand a thing. Truth is only held by a few girlfriends.”

Qi Chuanyu: ???

“Big guy, is there something wrong with what he’s saying?”

Qi Chuanyu turned to ask Liao Zhongyang.

Liao Zhongyang was a bit confused.

“Why are you asking him?” Shen Bei said earnestly, “You think about it yourself, think about it like someone who abandons his children and dies with regrets.”

“Damn it!”

Qi Chuanyu stomped his foot. “I feel like you’re a Personal Disciple from the Huanglongjiang area, all Bluetooth-enabled. I—”

Qi Chuanyu hadn't finished speaking.

Suddenly, an alarm blared again from the frontline!

The piercing alarm was even sharper than when the Dungeon opened.

Logically, the alarm should only sound once when the Dungeon opens.

All remaining orders would be given by the commander.

But this time, it was out of the ordinary, indicating that something major had happened and that the commander was desperate!

Shen Bei suddenly raised his head and looked towards the interior of the frontline.

At that sight, Shen Bei nearly fell to the ground!

He saw a tall, dark shadow slowly emerging from the crack in the Dungeon.

It was like a giant standing up from a squatting position.

One must know that the Dungeon crack was hundreds of meters deep!

A shadow that stood taller than the Dungeon itself!

On the battle line, people continuously roared:

“Retreat! Everyone retreat!”

“Don’t worry about the living Vicious Beasts, run!”

“Soldiers, load the bombs! Quickly, quickly!”

“Vicious Beasts have reappeared! Everyone return to the frontline, quickly!”

At this moment, all the Martial Artists, including Yu Qi and Chen Guoan, were bewildered.

According to the normal sequence, when the Dungeon opened, the first wave would be Vicious Beasts.

For the Dungeon in Changtu County, the first wave being flying beasts was already a very rare occurrence.

And now, after the ground Vicious Beasts had been largely cleared by artillery fire, the second wave should be Otherworlders!

Why did a giant Vicious Beast of an unimaginable size suddenly appear again?

Good heavens.

What in the world was going on!

Buzz~~~

Rumble.

As the dark shadow in the crack slowly raised its head and its full form was revealed, Shen Bei swallowed hard.

It was a colossal beast with prominent horns, resembling an ancient Tyrannosaurus Rex. Even with only its upper half exposed from the crack, it was nearly a hundred meters tall, like towering mountains reaching the sky and earth. Any words used to describe immense size seemed pale and powerless in comparison!

Even the Four-Winged Night Dragon that Shen Bei had seen in the Dungeon seemed like a child facing an adult in front of it.

The giant beast stood with most of its body in the crack, each step it took stirring up rolling dust. Its two crimson giant eyes stared directly at the humans on the frontline. That gaze, even from such a distance, sent shivers down the spines of all the Martial Artists who saw it!

Terror, oppression, and even despair—this was the most direct feeling the giant beast gave people.

“Everyone, remain calm!”

At this moment, a majestic voice echoed and spread, calming people’s hearts.

On the watchtower, the wind howled. Yu Qi and Chen Guoan, the two highest leaders of the defense battle, stood like mountains, unmoving, observing the giant beast slowly emerging from the crack with military binoculars.

Chen Guoan raised his walkie-talkie and said in a deep, low voice:

“Raise vigilance, order all personnel to prepare! Get ready to meet the enemy!”

After the order was given, in an instant, on the layered artillery defense line, the muzzles of countless mortars turned towards the direction from which the giant beast was coming. Every soldier was tense, their Adam’s apples bobbing as they watched the ferocious figure in their sight continuously grow larger, waiting for the command to attack.

Yu Qi narrowed his eyes and asked, “What is this thing?”

Chen Guoan took a deep breath, his voice somewhat heavy as he said, “From what I know, it should be a Vicious Beast of the Desolate Divine-Grade, at least Rank Eight. We call it a Titan, simply because of its immense size.”

“But there aren’t many of these giant beasts, and they hardly harm people. As long as you don’t block its path, you can even walk past it.”

Hearing this, Yu Qi gasped. “So, you mean we wait a bit longer, and it might go back into the Dungeon by itself?”

“We can’t rule out that possibility. If we don’t have to fight, let’s try not to. Maybe it’s lost and can go back if it finds the right path. That would save us a lot of trouble.”

Yu Qi looked towards the crack again. The giant beast was still moving towards the surface, and with each step, the earth trembled.

He was somewhat skeptical of Chen Guoan’s whimsical idea.

This thing wouldn’t attack if it wasn’t attacked.

But Earth was not where it should appear.

Finally, the Titan giant beast completely emerged from the ground.

It was nearly two hundred meters tall.

Humans were as tiny as weeds before it.

It overshadowed the sky and covered the sun, casting a shadow that made one’s scalp tingle.

On the frontline, there was a profound silence, broken only by the sound of people swallowing.

The next second, the Titan giant beast turned its head and surveyed its surroundings.

It twisted its body and slowly turned towards the crack.

At this moment, Chen Guoan smiled and said, “See? It’s going back now.”

As soon as his words fell, a crimson beam of light suddenly shot out from the crack, exploding on the Titan giant beast.

Instantly, the Titan was covered in wounds. It let out a furious roar, seemingly fearing the threat within the Dungeon, stopped turning, and faced the crowd again, taking a step forward, advancing towards the county.

Yu Qi’s eyes widened. “What was that thing?!”

Chen Guoan said urgently, “It must be the Otherworlders driving this Titan to act as a vanguard! Damn it, they’re playing tricks now.”

“Prepare! Prepare!”

“Mortars are the first echelon!”

“Follow orders! When the target enters the three-kilometer range, focus fire!”

Chen Guoan no longer hesitated. Seeing the Titan giant beast still intending to move on the surface, he directly yelled into the walkie-talkie.

Against Dungeon creatures, the country already had complete experience. Intense long-range heavy firepower coverage was the first line of defense.

Rockets, howitzers, and hunter-killer cannons, along with other close-range heavy firepower, formed the second line of defense.

And the two great masters, along with the other Martial Artists, were the final line of defense!

Soon, the scarred Titan entered the artillery range.

“First line of defense, fire!”

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

The next instant, like hundreds of thunderbolts exploding at once, the massive roar of artillery shook the heavens and the earth!

Shells, dense as rain, crossed several kilometers in an instant, and dozens, even hundreds, of blazing fireballs suddenly erupted in the sky and on the ground.

The calm air was instantly torn apart, powerful currents of Qi swept violently, shaking the earth and sky!

The sky trembled, the earth wailed, and in the blink of an eye, fire and smoke engulfed the Titan giant beast.
