382: Teasing from a wig

The rope bridge, battered by the back-and-forth fighting of the three, became incredibly fragile.

Finally, it could no longer bear the strain and snapped with a crash.

Although Heaven-Shaking Slave shouted about going to Hell together, Shen Bei knew that even in a deep valley, there was still some doubt as to whether one could truly be killed by falling.

At the same time, Shen Bei was even clearer that this half-section of the rope bridge, swinging down rapidly, would not hit the surrounding tree trunks, but if it swung to its limit, the living person clinging to the broken rope bridge, unwilling to let go, would inevitably be slammed against the large tree trunk supporting the rope bridge, spitting out a mouthful of thick blood.

The Wang Tian Tree by the rope bridge, which he had eyed earlier, was instantly calculated by Shen Bei for time and inertial distance; as he drew near the Wang Tian Tree trunk, Shen Bei quickly let go, straightened his waist, and leaped to grab onto it.

With a 'thwack,' his entire chest slammed heavily, and Shen Bei's ribcage inside nearly cracked with a 'ga-ba ga-ba' sound.

At this moment, he could no longer care about the pain; he rapidly hugged the tree trunk and slid down.

Once he was out of the mist layer and into the tree realm below, he would have a clearer view of outlines. At that time, Shen Bei could, like a tide chaser, see whether Zhuang Bifan or Heaven-Shaking Slave had fallen to the ground and were stunned.

Then, he would wield his long saber, aim for Heaven-Shaking Slave's head, and let him sleep forever beneath these towering trees until he became dust, absorbed by plants into the treetop, once again gazing at the blue sky.

As soon as his feet touched the damp, soft bottom layer of the tree realm, Shen Bei quickly lay prostrate and crawled backward.

This posture could also be described as extremely cautious.

Now, the exact falling positions of Zhuang Bifan and Heaven-Shaking Slave were uncertain.

Although that fellow had a crippled leg, he might not have died from the fall.

If he encountered Heaven-Shaking Slave, who was still alive, while moving, it would be a one-on-one situation.

Heaven-Shaking Slave's death throes might genuinely take someone with him.

Therefore, as Shen Bei searched for his target, his entire body was on edge. The closer it got to the critical moment, the less he could afford to be careless.

No one could withstand a fatal sneak attack.

Shen Bei crawled back about a hundred meters before hiding behind a thick Wang Tian Tree, leaning against its trunk and slowly squatting down.

Due to changes in air pressure, the mist in the middle layer of the Wang Tian Tree began to rise, causing the light below to gradually show faint specks of brightness.

After a glance, what he saw was still the scene of twilight about to enter night.

There was about ten meters between each tree trunk, and in the dark surroundings, water droplets continuously fell, making it feel not like rain, but as if the canopy of the plant kingdom was leaking.

He meticulously scanned the possible falling location of Heaven-Shaking Slave, but apart from some scattered broken branches and decaying wood emitting an ancient, eerie aura, he saw no blurred outlines of living, moving beings.

Having found nothing, Shen Bei had no choice but to cautiously crawl forward a bit more. Heaven-Shaking Slave now had a high chance of escaping, and Zhuang Bifan had a high chance of being too injured to move.

His hands pawed at the damp, decaying, muggy layer of dead leaves, the sticky, gooey sensation making him indescribably uncomfortable.

While alive, one would absolutely not want to die in such a dark world that felt like there was no hope of reincarnation.

The strong smell of earth and decaying plants filled Shen Bei's nostrils, and his crawling motion was not much faster than an old sea turtle's.

Just then.

From the mist ahead, came the sound of light running.

Shen Bei immediately became alert.

He didn't know if it was friend or foe.

Glancing at his surroundings, Shen Bei, like a silent lizard, stopped on a slightly higher accumulation of fallen leaves, letting his body sink in and conceal himself as if incubating an egg.

His eyes were fixed on the direction of the sound.

If it was Heaven-Shaking Slave, even though he had severed one of his legs, if he ended up killing him, it would truly leave him with unfulfilled wishes, crying injustice to the King of Hell.

As the sound grew closer.

The footsteps suddenly became chaotic.

Shen Bei listened carefully and immediately rejoiced; this undoubtedly meant that both Zhuang Bifan and Heaven-Shaking Slave were alive!

It didn't matter if Heaven-Shaking Slave was alive; there would be a chance to kill him.

But if Zhuang Bifan had died from the fall, that would be a pain in the ass.

The good news now was that Zhuang Bifan should be mostly fine.

He just didn't know who was chasing whom.

Huff, huff…

The sound of panting grew closer.

A figure broke through the mist and appeared in Shen Bei's field of vision.

It was Zhuang Bifan!

The fellow was cradling his almost dislocated arm, limping and rapidly trotting.

It was visible that his ankle was swollen like a tire.

He probably twisted his ankle when he fell. In this condition, walking was difficult, let alone trotting.

It was enough to show that Zhuang Bifan's willpower was very strong, and his desire to survive was also intense.

Shen Bei, hidden in a high spot, let out a sigh of relief.

As long as he was alive, those injuries would heal sooner or later.

Zhuang Bifan did not discover Shen Bei hidden in the high place and continued to press forward with his head down.

Perhaps he was also looking for Shen Bei, trying to join forces again to kill Heaven-Shaking Slave.

Now, fighting alone, he would absolutely not be able to win.

And Shen Bei watched Zhuang Bifan pass right under his nose.

He gave no verbal warning.

He was afraid that a warning would affect Heaven-Shaking Slave, who was behind.

After Zhuang Bifan had passed Shen Bei's position by about ten meters.

Heaven-Shaking Slave's figure also burst out of the mist.

Heaven-Shaking Slave seemed mostly unharmed, covered in wounds, with his biggest injury being the severed Achilles tendon.

His movement speed was similar to Zhuang Bifan's.

They were like two old neighbors chasing each other.

Limpy and comical.

Shen Bei did not make the first move, but continued to lurk like a venomous snake.

He quickly blinked a few times, rubbing and moistening his eyes with his eyelids, while also expanding his vision.

The mist floating in the upper layer of the forest had risen much higher now, and the brightness beneath the Wang Tian Tree had noticeably improved.

Heaven-Shaking Slave's mind was probably completely engrossed by Zhuang Bifan ahead and he had not observed his surroundings.

It seemed as if he would not rest in peace unless he took Zhuang Bifan with him.

In Shen Bei's opinion, he likely thought Heaven-Shaking Slave's mind had gone mad, and within his entire world, there was no room for anything else besides Zhuang Bifan.

Or... danger.

Shen Bei, like a leopard lurking in the tree canopy, patiently and relentlessly watched Heaven-Shaking Slave approach bit by bit.

When his head was still two meters from passing Shen Bei's position.

Shen Bei quickly calculated the lead for his attack. His body, squatting on the high ground, tilted forward, like a seabird diving from high in the sky.

His left hand, reaching out, grabbed a handful of Heaven-Shaking Slave's hair at the back of his head. As he pulled down, he forced Heaven-Shaking Slave to crane his neck while also controlling his own falling center of gravity.

Just as Shen Bei pulled out his long saber, intending to slit Heaven-Shaking Slave's exposed neck.

Shen Bei's left hand suddenly lost its grip.

He saw Heaven-Shaking Slave's hair, from his head, being torn off by Shen Bei.

After losing Shen Bei's control, Heaven-Shaking Slave rolled forward, then turned to a half-crouch, his gaze sinisterly fixed on Shen Bei.

Shen Bei looked at the wig in his hand, his mouth twitching.

What kind of situation was this!

All his careful planning was no match for a wig.

A situation that was originally a sure thing was foiled by this wig.

"Damn it…"

Shen Bei had never expected such a precise ambush and sneak attack to be defeated by a wig…

"Old Bi!"

Shen Bei roared, "Kill!"
