423: Boundary Problem

After understanding the background of the dream, Shen Bei became even more convinced.

They had all been brainwashed.

When he himself had woken up, there had also been a force trying to invade his mind, but he had resisted it with his spirit.

If they didn't realize they were in a dream, they would never wake up.

Shen Bei initially thought that killing Sun Wu and the others would free them from the dream.

But now it seemed that wouldn't work.

The Hell catastrophe in Anxi Town was still ongoing; even if they were all killed, they would transform into Living Dead.

And Living Dead, even if chopped into meat paste, wouldn't die.

Then their Souls would never truly wake up.

This formed a rather vicious cycle.

It seemed that to break the dream, he would have to start from other angles, perhaps requiring some violent methods, and even more so, precisely locating the target to prevent the Soldiers' Souls from permanently staying in Anxi Town.

But this matter couldn't be rushed; Shen Bei still needed to observe where the dream's nodes were.

Unconsciously, several people walked along the tunnel and arrived at the exit.

They climbed up a ladder fixed to the wall.

After opening the cover and exiting, the outside was not outdoors, but indoors.

To be precise, it was the interior of what looked like a large palace; it seemed this was the shelter that Grey Wing Sun Wu had mentioned earlier.

What this hall was used for in the past was no longer discernible, but fortunately, it could still provide shelter from the wind and rain.

At the same time, there were quite a few people around; Shen Bei roughly counted about eighty or so in his sight.

Some sat on the ground, some leaned against the wall, some whispered.

Seeing Sun Wu open the cover and emerge from it, everyone's attention was drawn to them.

Then a man in his twenties was the first to run over, happily shouting, "It's the Hanged Man... no, it's Grey Wing! They're back!"

Shen Bei looked at the face of the man who ran over and found him somewhat familiar; this man had also been there when he had watched the Soldiers collectively fall into a coma outside the camp's glass cover.

After a brief exchange, Shen Bei finally grasped more specific information.

It turned out that Grey Wing Sun Wu was not only the leader of the squad but also the only Seventh Rank Martial Artist in this shelter.

This greatly surprised Shen Bei.

In other words, these Soldiers were originally Martial Artists, but after entering the dream, only Sun Wu retained his Martial Artist strength; the other Soldiers were all ordinary people.

And they were even unaware that they themselves were originally Martial Artists...

Shen Bei couldn't help but secretly glance at Sun Wu; this guy was highly suspicious.

One should know that Shen Bei, even now in the dream, had not lost his Martial Artist strength.

This was entirely due to spiritual resistance.

If one reasoned in reverse, having Martial Artist strength in a dream was because of spiritual resistance to invasion.

Then...

Wasn't Sun Wu also awake? Did he also know this was a dream?

But this guy's acting was too damn real.

His immersion was even stronger than his own.

Shen Bei narrowed his eyes, watching Sun Wu converse with the others, his heart filled with confusion; what exactly was going on with him? What was he trying to do?

If he knew that the Anxi Town Hell catastrophe era was a dream, why didn't he warn everyone?

Shen Bei couldn't figure it out, so he could only hide in a corner, listening to these people talk.

Undoubtedly, because Sun Wu possessed Martial Artist strength, he always led teams out to collect supplies.

There were a total of over ninety people hiding here; Grey Wing Sun Wu was deeply trusted by them.

The number of over ninety people... was clearly not comparable to the outside world, estimating at least a dozen permanent deaths.

And Grey Wing Sun Wu, like an avid doomsday enthusiast, had taken precautions and extensively modified it into a shelter.

Then he accepted the survivors who gradually fled here, allowing so many people to survive.

The shelter had a large amount of survival supplies and tools stored in advance; the windows were all sealed with wooden boards, and the entrances and exits were re-sealed with iron doors.

In addition, Sun Wu had personally designed numerous emergency plans and made extensive preparations inside the shelter.

But to elaborate on them would be too lengthy, and Shen Bei was not in the mood to study his contingency plans.

Then, Sun Wu introduced the newcomers, Shen Bei and Fu Jian, and after a few pleasantries, arranged their accommodation: "There are still rooms behind the main hall; you two can each pick one."

Shen Bei raised his hand and said, "I want to share a room with Gua Zi; after all, we're new, so we can look out for each other in the future."

But Sun Wu shook his head, directly refusing: "Everyone stays in a single room, and before going to bed, I will lock the door from the outside; this is the rule."

"Rule?"

"The reason everyone has a single room is to prevent someone from turning into an Living Dead. Although the probability is extremely low, we still have to be prepared."

Sun Wu replied.

Shen Bei let out an "Oh," and understood.

If someone turned into an Living Dead, the room would be a prison, to prevent harm to others.

Although this method was a bit like a prison, Shen Bei didn't say anything.

"I have other things to attend to; you can look around, but don't go beyond the scope of the shelter; it's very dangerous."

Subsequently, Sun Wu sent someone to lead Shen Bei and Fu Jian to the back of the main hall to choose rooms.

This assigned man was a Soldier of the shelter, responsible for patrols and other duties.

He genuinely admired Grey Wing, talking incessantly like a chatterbox on the way, telling Shen Bei and Fu Jian about Grey Wing's prowess:

"The nickname Grey Wing isn't for nothing; although it will be changed soon, I think this nickname is very apt."

"He made extensive preparations in advance to prevent various disasters after the Living Dead entered the town. From converting this place into a shelter, to the large amount of supplies stored beforehand, to the equipment and tools we use now, and the recorded maps of the underground tunnels, a series of closely related survival regulations, etc., covering all aspects of food, clothing, housing, and transportation..."

"You probably don't even know that he even prepared other backup shelters; if this one falls, the other shelters will be activated..."

Seeing how talkative he was, Shen Bei took the opportunity to ask, "What exactly is the 'magic array' in the town that you mentioned earlier?"

"Grey Wing also said before, didn't he? It's a powerful barrier covering the entire town, capable of repelling all invasion by the Living Dead."

The Soldier said with a strange tone: "And now it's malfunctioning. Although it hasn't disappeared yet, some Living Dead and Living Dead can now enter the town as they are."

"Some?" Shen Bei exclaimed in surprise: "Weren't those before not enough?"

"Your question is really strange. Although our town is located in an area with a very low disaster level, if the barrier were truly completely destroyed, how could there still be living people here?" the Soldier said.

Shen Bei fell silent.

"The barrier has been operating for a full hundred years. Whether it's a barrier, a Seal, or even human hearts, a hundred years will change them." The Soldier continued: "But people relied too much on the barrier's protection, thinking that with the barrier, they could live safely. Grey Wing, however, didn't think so; he believed the barrier would eventually break one day. Even if there were no problems for the past hundred years, it couldn't guarantee no problems tomorrow."

"He was right." Shen Bei said.

"So Grey Wing survived." The Soldier said, "Those who looked down on him all died."

A moment later, Shen Bei and Fu Jian had chosen their rooms, and the Soldier left.

Shen Bei and Fu Jian talked for a while in the corridor.

Shen Bei was absolutely certain that Fu Jian was deeply brainwashed.

Facing Shen Bei's hints, Fu Jian was unresponsive.

At the same time, Shen Bei threw a river pebble, into which he had imprinted True Qi, out of the shelter.

"Fu Jian is useless, can't rely on him..." Shen Bei returned to his room, sat on the bed, and sighed: "I still have to rely on myself."

Not long after.

A whistle sounded, and the people in the shelter began to return to their rooms, while Sun Wu used iron chains outside to lock each room.

After Sun Wu's footsteps disappeared.

Shen Bei's Divine Sense stirred, and he decided to sneak out of the shelter to see what was going on with the magic array!
