482: The Eve of the Storm

Shen Bei read through the intelligence report.

He couldn't help but twitch his mouth at Jiang Ruochu's actions.

This guy was truly incredibly bold.

She even aroused the apprehension of the mysterious organization.

But there was also a downside; she probably used the identity of Two Headed Vine while investigating the Sheepskin Assassin.

For her, it was merely 'business as usual', but to the mysterious organization, it seemed very strange.

A 'highly decorated' star reporter, for some unknown reason, had made far more progress in uncovering the Sheepskin Assassin's secrets than her identity should allow.

This triggered an overreaction from the mysterious organization, which decisively ordered her elimination.

In Shen Bei's opinion, this was truly a colossal misunderstanding.

Such misunderstandings are quite rare among other mature criminal organizations, but the mysterious organization the two were investigating now seemed like a teenager new to the criminal world, not only making the mistake of 'eating grass by its own nest' but also frequently overdoing it.

But at this point, even if the mysterious organization were to explain itself, it probably wouldn't be able to shake off Two Headed Vine.

After Shen Bei had a comprehensive understanding of all the intelligence, he exited his email.

"You should come over and order too!" Jian Tong waved to Shen Bei from a distance.

Shen Bei put away his phone, stood up, and said, "Just order two dishes for me, whatever you like."

"'Whatever you like' is the hardest thing to order!" Jian Tong put her hands on her hips, pouting at Shen Bei.

The proprietress also looked over.

Shen Bei shrugged, offering a direction, and said, "As long as it has meat."

"How about fried tofu skin wrapped with meat?"

"No."

"What about stuffed snails?"

"No."

"See!" Jian Tong said somewhat angrily, "Should I just order you some kidney or something?"

The proprietress chuckled from the side, interjecting, "Young man, you're still young, you probably don't need that, right?"

Shen Bei's face darkened, and he had no choice but to walk over to Jian Tong and help her order.

...

Three dishes and one soup were served.

Jian Tong ate happily.

After all, she had eaten enough of the food in Wuda's cafeteria.

It was nice to occasionally go out and try something different.

Shen Bei wolfed down his food, scooping a spoonful of soup.

Suddenly.

The soup in the spoon twisted and deformed, constantly rising in Shen Bei's eyes.

Immediately after, the soup, like a tsunami, condensed into an indescribable, ghostly, and menacing face, opening an irregular giant mouth and biting down on Shen Bei.

The feeling was as if the small spoon was an ocean pouring out a giant creature, filling Shen Bei's entire world.

At this moment, Jian Tong also noticed that Shen Bei's expression was off, like he was carsick on the ground, looking very uncomfortable.

"Hey, hey?"

Jian Tong looked at Shen Bei nervously: "What's wrong? Are you okay?"

Shen Bei seemed to find it hard to breathe, pulling at his collar, then opening his mouth, but not breathing. It was nearly ten seconds later that he suddenly took a deep breath, then exhaled heavily.

Whoosh~~

The Gestalt collapse quickly passed.

Shen Bei felt as if he would be kicked into a lake if he wasn't careful.

"Nothing, food just got stuck in my throat," Shen Bei lied, explaining.

He didn't want to reveal everything and make Jian Tong unnecessarily nervous and anxious.

The Gestalt collapse hadn't occurred very often.

As long as he was conscious and aware that it was a Gestalt collapse, he wouldn't be dragged into an abstract world.

Shen Bei was very confident about this.

After all, his mental resistance was no joke.

Awkwardly, Shen Bei's condition was influenced by the Blood-Colored Ancient Lamp, which was a result at the consciousness level, and had little to do with his spirit.

...

Three peaceful days passed.

On the fourth day, Shen Bei received a call from Two Headed Vine, and they arranged to meet at a certain location.

It was the same small shop where they first met.

Shen Bei even suspected that Two Headed Vine lived nearby.

Why else would she always choose this place to meet?

"What have you found out?" Shen Bei asked while sipping his milk tea.

Two Headed Vine quickly replied, "Mu Feiran indeed harbored some secrets we don't know about. He might have already grasped the true nature of the mysterious organization but, for some reason, never revealed it."

Shen Bei, while flipping through the documents, twitched his mouth.

She was taking a jab at him!

The 'some reason' he didn't reveal it was because he was killed by him, wasn't it?

"And this 'Bianhe Pharmaceutical' company might just be the mysterious organization itself."

Two Headed Vine said, pointing to the name in the documents.

Two Headed Vine began her investigation by tracing clues from Mu Feiran's Family in Liaobei Province.

From equity penetration, equity cross-holding, to various subtle clues, she finally tracked down the Mu Family's pharmaceutical company in the capital.

This Bianhe Pharmaceutical was established twenty years ago.

Initially, it was just a small company reselling medicines, but its size gradually increased over time, and it has now grown into a well-known local company capable of large-scale pharmaceutical production, offering good quality at low prices.

"How so?" Shen Bei asked, knowing the answer, not genuinely curious, but merely to keep the conversation going: "Although this company has a drug research and development department, it's not enough to develop a 'safe Mind's Eye Potion', is it?"

"If one were to develop a drug of that caliber, let alone this company, even a commercial organization fifty times its size wouldn't have the capability. But ultimately, the mysterious organization we're investigating isn't some behemoth, otherwise you and I wouldn't be able to sit here calmly."

Two Headed Vine was also thinking as she spoke: "But if the mysterious organization truly is this company, and it truly is developing the Mind's Eye Potion, then... there must be a mastermind behind it."

Shen Bei nodded: "Undoubtedly, that would be the Apocalypse Cult."

Two Headed Vine was quite excited: "I also discovered a door within this company that requires a high-level executive's fingerprint for access. I think there must be a secret inside!"

Shen Bei was taken aback: "You've already been to the site?"

"Is it that difficult?"

"Isn't it difficult?"

"I went to apply for a cleaning job."

Shen Bei: "..."

Good heavens, her thinking is quite flexible.

Shen Bei skipped over the cleaning topic and asked, "Do you have a way to get in?"

She took out a pair of thin, flesh-colored gel gloves from her satchel and smiled triumphantly: "Does that even need to be said? I've already secretly collected a high-level executive's fingerprints and engraved them onto these gloves using a precision machine!"

Shen Bei was stunned. This kind of technology didn't seem like something a reporter would possess; it was more like something a phantom thief specializing in stealing rare treasures would use.

Shen Bei said in surprise: "How did you get them?"

Shen Bei voiced this doubt, of course, when he said it, he didn't directly call her a "reporter", but rather substituted it with "intelligence broker."

"After dabbling in the black market for a long time, one inevitably picks up some strange and unusual skills."

Two Headed Vine smiled: "Just like you learned disguise to conceal your true identity, I also learned various lock-picking techniques, not just limited to digital locks, to steal intelligence that 'certain people' don't want me to know."

That made sense. Shen Bei clicked his tongue, and suddenly realized how Two Headed Vine got the fingerprints.

Cleaning staff, huh...

She must have gone to the executive's office to clean, right?

Fingerprints wouldn't be just anywhere.

"Then, the time to infiltrate this company will be tonight." Shen Bei pointed to the scattered intelligence on the table: "Any problems?"

"No problem!" Two Headed Vine nodded readily.
