102: ambush
The next morning, Lin Yue and the others silently ate flatbread, washing it down with water.
Last night, the game system suddenly notified him that his Martial Power had increased by one point, now at 56. Lin Yue was a bit confused; could getting beaten actually make him stronger?
"Commander, the front has already breached the city!" Li Mu limped over to report. He hadn't escaped unscathed from yesterday's battle.
"When can we expect to depart?" Lin Yue asked.
"This humble general went to take a look. Currently, the eight small outer cities of the rebels are simultaneously under attack by the Shanggu Legion. I imagine it will be our turn when the cavalry reinforcements from the rear arrive!" Li Mu speculated.
"Good!" Lin Yue nodded.
After a while, seeing that everyone had finished eating, Lin Yue judged the time was right and gathered everyone to mount their horses.
"Lin Yue, bring your White Horse Righteous Cavalry over!" She Jian shouted.
"Understood!" Lin Yue responded.
Upon reaching the assembly point, they found that fifty thousand cavalry had just finished gathering. She Jian, clad in black armor and wielding a long spear, stood at the front of the formation.
She Jian turned his horse to face the sixty thousand cavalry and declared, "Behind Shuiyun City are fifty thousand rebel reinforcements, all cavalry. I am ordered by the Great General to encircle and annihilate them. Follow me and pierce through their ranks!"
"Understood!" The sixty thousand cavalry roared in unison!
Subsequently, She Jian charged forward, leading the sixty thousand cavalry to the battlefield!
..."Where is the Great General?" The middle-aged scholar asked a Soldier.
"Reporting, sir, the Great General is currently drinking with several generals," the Soldier replied.
"He's still drinking at a time like this?" The scholar asked, his brows tightly furrowed.
"Sir, do you need me to inform the Great General of your arrival?" The Soldier, seeing the scholar's annoyance, cautiously inquired.
"No need." The young scholar shook his head, sighed, and turned to leave.
"Young Master, what's wrong?" A-Tai asked.
"This place will soon be breached. This man is certainly not a wise lord.
Let's go. If we don't leave now, we won't be able to." The scholar said.
"A-Tai will listen to Young Master completely," A-Tai said resolutely.
"Good, go find a carriage. Don't alarm anyone."
"Yes." A-Tai nodded and ran off.
"Alas, it was so difficult for a hero to emerge, one who could challenge Great Qin with unparalleled martial prowess, but I never expected him to be so utterly useless." The scholar looked back at the lord's mansion, hearing the sounds of drinking and revelry, and walked away without the slightest reluctance.
It seems he would have to continue to lie low and wait for his opportunity.
"Great General, General Zhang Yi was ambushed while rushing to Shuiyun City. General Zhang Yi was killed, and the fifty thousand cavalry were completely wiped out!" A Soldier rushed in to report.
"What?! What good is Zhang Yi?!" The man at the head roared, smashing the wine cup in his hand.
The many military generals below were all somewhat astonished upon hearing this. Zhang Yi's long spear was invincible; how could he have been defeated so easily?
"Where is Mr. Zhang San now?" The man at the head asked.
"Mr. Zhang San just arrived here, but for some unknown reason, he left again," the Soldier reported.
"Damn it." The man cursed under his breath, thinking that he might have run away after seeing that the situation was not right, but he did not mention these words to the military generals.
"Zang Tu, follow me to Shuiyun City!" The man said. Zang Tu had only recently come to pledge allegiance to him. He was highly skilled in martial arts and very different from these sycophantic individuals, which suited his taste very well.
"Understood!" Zang Tu responded.
Seeing this, the man ordered his Fangtian Halberd to be brought out. He took it in his hand and walked out with Zang Tu.
Subsequently, a contingent of fifty thousand cavalry rode out of the city, with the Lu family banner unfurling in the wind, heading straight for Shuiyun City.
Meanwhile, She Jian picked up Zhang Yi's head and tied it to a battle standard. He then scanned the area, roughly estimating the losses from this battle in his mind.
Approximately one thousand Soldiers had died, which was very good considering they faced fifty thousand rebel cavalry.
"Congratulations to the player for slaying 42 rebels, awarding 420 merit points."
Lin Yue panted slightly, somewhat shocked by She Jian's god-of-slaughter-like appearance just now!
Suddenly, the communication token vibrated slightly. She Jian immediately put it to his ear, his expression serious, then turned to the Army and said:
"Brothers, get ready, the main event is here!"
Lin Yue recalled She Jian's assessment of that person: unparalleled martial prowess!
"Report! General, there are cavalry approaching five li ahead! It looks like about fifty thousand men, flying the Lu family banner!" A scout quickly reported on horseback.
Soon, the ground trembled slightly, and She Jian's eyes gleamed.
"Charge with me!" She Jian shouted. The sixty thousand cavalry looked at the cavalry lined up in the distance and charged straight into them!
"Hold on! The Great General is rushing here! We must hold them for half an hour, even if it means death!" She Jian said sternly.
Lin Yue nodded, then tightened his grip on his long saber, following beside She Jian.
The two armies, numbering over a hundred thousand, met head-on on the plains, their distance growing shorter and shorter!
"I am Lu Fengxian! Who are you, approaching general? State your name!" Lu Bu shouted.
Lu Bu!
Lin Yue used the Art of Recognizing People to examine him.
"name: Lu Bu
Martial Power: 99
Intelligence: 78
Command: 91
Politics: 72
Charm: 83"
Legendary General!
Lin Yue finally knew who the so-called hero was!
Although She Jian was highly skilled in martial arts, he was no match for Lu Bu!
"How can a traitorous rebel be worthy of knowing my name!" She Jian cursed, then dismounted and leaped into the air, like a human cannonball, charging straight at Lu Bu!
"Hmph, a mere trifle!" Lu Bu sneered, gripping his Fangtian Halberd, and likewise charged towards She Jian!
Just as the two were about to clash, Lu Bu roared!
"Break!"
An invisible wave of light erupted from where the two stood. The warhorses of both sides simultaneously reared up, refusing to advance.
Then the two separated. She Jian retreated a few steps, then charged at Lu Bu once more!
"Charge!" Lin Yue shouted!
The distance between the two sides was now less than three hundred meters. Whoever's warhorse could start earlier would have a stronger impact and seize the initiative!
Immediately after, Lu Bu and She Jian clashed, their spear and halberd clanging!
Meanwhile, Lin Yue and the others also met the rebel cavalry, and the two sides collided.
However, on Lin Yue's side, Pan Feng's trio and many High-level Military Generals were in the front rank. In contrast, apart from Lu Bu, the rebels could practically be called a disorganized rabble!
In an instant, the rebels were sent sprawling, horses and riders falling, their wails endless!
"Zang Tu?" Lin Yue looked at the man who brushed past him, surprised!
"Little brother, still well?" Zang Tu also smiled after a brief surprise.
"Very well! You and I serve our own masters, no need to hold back!" Lin Yue said.
He hadn't expected him to arrive so quickly; it seemed his status among the rebels was quite high!
"Naturally!" Zang Tu laughed.
"Pan Feng, go!" Lin Yue said. He wasn't foolish; Zang Tu was at the peak of a Third-rate Military General. How could he possibly defeat him? However, Pan Feng, as a Second-Rate Military General, could still manage!
"Understood!" Pan Feng responded, raising his Xuanhua Great Axe and charging at Zang Tu.
Zang Tu then engaged Pan Feng, while Lin Yue, protected by Liu Sandao, charged into the rebel Army!
"Break!" Lu Bu roared.
Lin Yue couldn't help but look in the direction of the sound, only to see She Jian actually flying backward!
"Die!" Lu Bu sneered!
