33: feast
“Right here,” Lin Yue said, stopping. He gazed into the distance, admiring the lush green pines and beautiful scenery. Most importantly, he had an unobstructed view of the Mountain Bandit Encampment nearby.
Around the camp, less than a hundred men slowly approached from the east, south, and west, while the rest of the forces pressed on from behind. Wang Hu and two others were at the very front.
“They’re here!” Lin Yue whispered.
Wang Hu was the first to act! His blade struck a patrolling Mountain Bandit’s head!
“Ah!” The Mountain Bandit’s head spun a few times in the air before falling to the ground. The last scene of his life was fixed on Wang Hu’s ferocious face.
Wang Hu then changed into the Mountain Bandit’s clothes. After grabbing a few more clean outfits, he led his men swaggering towards the Mountain Bandit camp.
Outside the camp gate, only a few scattered men stood listlessly, leaning on their long spears. They paid no attention even as Wang Hu and his group stepped through the gate.
“Why are you all back so early?” A Mountain Bandit Foreman called out to Wang Hu and his men.
“You blockheads, hurry back to your patrol! The Yu Family Army was wiped out today, and the Great Chieftain is happy, so he’s holding a banquet. I don’t want to punish you, but don’t push your luck, always thinking about food!” the Mountain Bandit Foreman cursed.
The patrolling Mountain Bandits were the lowest-ranking group in this camp; in essence, they were cannon fodder. At the slightest sign of trouble, they would be the first to meet the King of Hell.
Next were those guarding the gate, at least they didn’t have to run back and forth.
And the highest in status were the group inside the camp today. As the main fighting force, their daily routine consisted of hacking people, sleeping, and feasting!
For some reason today, several groups of patrols had returned. The Yu Family Army had just been captured by the Government, and they were already so lax. If they weren’t taught a lesson, who knows how much more they’d slack off in the future!
“Get back! And all of you, get back together!” the Foreman roared.
Wang Hu saw that Zhang Wenfeng was also being scolded not far away, and he couldn’t help but grin, chuckling to himself.
“You, what are you laughing at?” The Foreman stepped forward, about to kick Wang Hu.
But Wang Hu easily dodged, then drew his blade and stabbed the Foreman.
“Uh, you, you—” The Foreman’s eyes showed disbelief, and his body struggled continuously.
“Shut your stinking mouth.” Wang Hu covered his mouth, and soon the Foreman stopped struggling.
“What now?” Wang Hu looked left and right, supporting the Foreman to prevent him from falling.
“Heh heh, you carry him, go change shifts, and welcome the Brothers in.”
“I’ll go find the Mountain Bandit Chieftain,” Zhang Wenfeng said, walking over.
“Good, I’ll go find the Chieftain.” Wang Hu placed the Foreman’s body on the subordinate next to Zhang Wenfeng and then led his men directly towards the Mountain Bandit Hall.
“Hey? Why me?” a villager exclaimed.
Zhang Wenfeng glanced at Wang Hu, shook his head, took the Foreman from the subordinate, and directly carried the Foreman on his back, walking towards the gate.
“Brothers, let’s go back, it’s shift change,” Zhang Wenfeng called out to the gate-guarding Mountain Bandits.
Upon hearing this, the Mountain Bandits immediately perked up, becoming energetic.
“It’s not time yet, is it?” a Mountain Bandit asked.
“The Great Chieftain ordered a change of people for dinner; we’ve all finished eating.”
“Brother, what’s wrong with him?” a Mountain Bandit asked, looking at the person on Wang Hu’s back.
“Ah, big eyes but small stomach, drank too much to walk straight!”
“Hahahaha,” the Mountain Bandits laughed.
“You’ve worked hard, Brother.”
“It’s nothing, hurry up and go,” Zhang Wenfeng said with a smile.
Once they were out of sight, Wang Hu called out the hidden militiamen, who then entered the camp.
“With this damn security, you deserve your bad luck.”
Zhang Wenfeng instructed everyone, “If you encounter anyone later, just give them…” Zhang Wenfeng drew his hand across his throat, indicating.
“Yes!” everyone quietly responded.
“Raid the camp!”
“Someone…”
Hearing the shouts, Zhang Wenfeng secretly thought, “Not good!”
Those two teams must have run into trouble!
“Kill!” Zhang Wenfeng charged directly forward!
At this moment, Wang Hu and his men had just entered the Hall of Gathering Righteousness. The Hall of Gathering Righteousness was noisy with about fifty tables. Wang Hu’s dozen or so men entering didn’t attract any attention.
Everyone found a inconspicuous corner to sit down, and soon a keen-eyed cook brought two dishes and placed them on the table.
“Gentlemen, eat and drink well,” the cook said with a smile.
“Wait, is this all?” Wang Hu asked, pointing at a plate of smashed cucumbers, a plate of boiled beans, and a small pot of wine on the table.
“Yes, Brother, are you new here!” the cook said with a carefree smile.
“Yes, do you usually eat this?” Wang Hu asked.
“Of course not!” The cook chuckled, then said, “On a normal day, you wouldn’t even dream of eating these! I tell you, today the Great Chieftain heard that the nearby Yu Family Army was wiped out by the Government, so he specifically asked me to make the meal more lavish!”
Wang Hu’s eyes widened in disbelief!
“Yes, Cook Brother is right.” A scar-faced big man sat down at Wang Hu’s table, picked up his chopsticks, and started picking at the dishes.
The cook smiled upon hearing this and then retreated.
“Oh, right, I’m Huang Liu, you can call me Brother Liu,” the big man said, chewing beans in between words, “These are all good dishes, eat quickly.”
Wang Hu silently watched the big man, who seemed fatally attracted to the cucumbers and beans, feeling a bitter taste in his heart.
Under my Lord, this truly is my, Wang Hu’s, greatest blessing!
[Wang Hu, Hou Da loyalty +5, loyalty reached 95]
Hearing the system prompt, Lin Yue was a bit confused. What happened to them?
Why did their loyalty suddenly increase?
“Camp raid!”
“Kill!”
Hearing the shouts of battle outside, the Hall of Gathering Righteousness immediately descended into chaos.
“Go out and see!” the Great Chieftain said with a frown and a deep voice.
“Damn them!” Huang Liu heard this, overturned the table, grabbed his steel blade, and rushed out.
Only Hou Da was left with his hand suspended in mid-air, a little at a loss.
Now, there were no cucumbers or beans left to pick.
Everyone inside the room rushed out like mad, and soon, only a few dozen people remained in the hall.
“You few, why aren’t you going out?” a bearded big man from above asked.
Wang Hu and Hou Da exchanged glances, pretending not to hear.
“You two, the Great Chieftain is talking to you!” A man next to the big man slammed the table and asked.
The two exchanged a look, and Wang Hu smiled, “We’re going now.”
Everyone stood up. Hou Da grabbed the overturned table, held a table leg, and swung it at the big man!
“Who are you?” The big man stood up, chopped the table with his blade, and the table shattered into pieces on the ground.
Then, a cold light flashed!
Hou Da, holding a long spear, thrust it towards the Mountain Bandit Chieftain, Zhang Mazi!
“Break!” Zhang Mazi blocked with his blade, and the surrounding Mountain Bandits hastily dodged to the side.
People who could fight the Great Chieftain were far beyond their match!
“Clang clang clang!”
The two fought, their weapons clanging, and the hall was in chaos.
Wang Hu, on the other hand, killed Mountain Bandits one by one with his blade.
“I’ll help you!” Wang Hu licked the blood from the tip of his blade and then joined the fight.
Zhang Mazi, an Initial-stage Martial General, was experienced and far from someone Hou Da could handle. But with Wang Hu’s addition, Hou Da finally felt a little better.
“Get lost!” The Great Chieftain slashed with his blade, and the two retreated a step. He seized the opportunity to retreat, flipping out a window and jumping down.
“Chase!” the two said simultaneously, and also jumped down.
Compared to inside the Hall of Gathering Righteousness, the militiamen outside had an absolute advantage. Although their numbers were slightly fewer, they were far from what the Mountain Bandits could contend with.
“Great Chieftain!” Some of the Mountain Bandits, seeing their leader injured, directly shielded the Great Chieftain in the middle.
“Go, kill them all!” Zhang Mazi shouted!
Everyone charged directly towards Wang Hu and Hou Da, while Zhang Mazi ran towards outside the mountain.
He had failed today!
But as long as the green mountains remain, there will always be wood to burn!
He glanced back, then ran north. The terrain there was higher, and there were no pursuers!
