49: The war ended

Outside the frontier.

A man and a horse galloped wildly through the night.

The young man on the horse cursed silently, thinking how unlucky he was to encounter Great Qin's cavalry on his first trip.

Even more unlucky was the big man relentlessly pursuing him. They were already twenty li from the border wall, so why was he still chasing?

The young man glanced back; his pursuer was getting closer, yet he could do nothing, and anxiety filled his heart.

Suddenly, a cold wind swept across his back. The young man didn't have time to turn around, instinctively ducking to the side of his warhorse. As he flipped over, he saw a gleaming giant axe graze his scalp, and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

Instead of getting up, he gripped the saddle with one hand, twisted his body, and thrust a spear directly backward with his right hand!

A backward spear thrust!

This was a move the young man had repeated thousands of times, practicing until he could accurately strike without looking at the enemy, relying solely on feeling. This spear thrust went straight for the big man's face!

The big man was caught off guard by the sudden spear thrust. In a flash, he hastily used the axe handle to strike the spear tip from bottom to top. The spear tip was uncontrollably deflected upwards by an inch, barely dodging the sudden attack!

The young man was greatly astonished. Seeing his backward spear thrust dodged by the big man, he understood the vast difference between himself and his opponent. He decided not to entangle further; failing in one strike, he immediately flipped back onto his horse and fled again, showing no hesitation!

"Still trying to run?" the big man roared, a hint of anger in his voice. He had almost capsized in a ditch just now; how could he let him escape now?

The big man spurred his horse forward and caught up with the young man. The two fought, a spear and an axe clanging and crisscrossing.

Within a few breaths, the big man's momentum continuously surged, while the young man grew weaker, barely able to cope.

"Break!" the big man suddenly roared, unleashing a powerful, accumulated strike. His Pear Blossom Battle Axe cleaved down from above. The young man held his spear to block, but his strength was insufficient. The axe head cut an inch deep into his flesh, and a searing pain shot through his shoulder!

The young man still gritted his teeth and stubbornly resisted, because once he let go, his entire shoulder would be lost. On the grasslands, whether he was the child of a chieftain or a herdsman, losing an arm would mean a lifetime of humiliation.

Cold sweat streamed down the young man's forehead, and his shoulder was already soaked with blood. At this moment, a pure contest of strength was taking place between the two!

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

Hearing the sound of arrows tearing through the air, both men simultaneously withdrew their weapons and scattered to either side.

Immediately following was the sound of horses galloping, as a group of foreign people, each holding a long sabre, arrived with the thundering hooves.

The young man was overjoyed. He was about to speak but was interrupted, and could only retreat.

"Who are you, identify yourself!" the newcomer asked in an unfluent but sinister-sounding Chinese, secretly gathering his strength.

"I am Pan Feng, courtesy name Wushuang!" Pan Feng replied, urging his warhorse forward!

...On the wilderness, two groups of people fought fiercely, blood flowing ceaselessly.

Although the opposing foreign cavalry was at a disadvantage, their ferocity and suicidal fighting style made the White Horse Righteous Cavalry somewhat wary. After all, the current White Horse Righteous Cavalry were still only a semi-finished product, far from reaching the standard of true White Horse Righteous Cavalry!

Lin Yue led his Soldiers, wielding his long sabre, slashing left and right, harvesting one fresh life after another. Xing Daorong followed closely by his side, protecting him, and for a time, no one dared to advance. The White Horse Righteous Cavalry gradually formed an overwhelming momentum, pressing the foreign cavalry.

"Prepare to die!" Abaolin spurred his horse towards Lin Yue. Catching the leader first was his only chance to turn the tide. Otherwise, his side would sooner or later be submerged in the opponent's white tide and defeated one by one!

Lin Yue also noticed him and likewise spurred his horse forward. The two quickly engaged in battle, their two long sabres clashing incessantly, sabre flowers flashing and clanging.

However, Abaolin's long sabre was ultimately just a common weapon, more than a grade below the Heaven-tier weapon in Lin Yue's hand. Fortunately, his own martial arts were exceptional, allowing him to fight the opponent to a draw.

Lin Yue, on the other hand, was secretly delighted. In his daily sparring with Pan Feng and Xing Daorong, he was completely suppressed, and both of them often held back. Now, he had encountered an enemy of the same realm, and it was a battle to the death, which would greatly help him improve his martial arts!

The two exchanged blows, neither giving an inch!

Finally, after a series of clanging sabre vibrations, the sabre broke in the middle, and the tip was flung out, piercing the body of a foreign cavalryman, who immediately fell from his horse.

"You rely on the advantage of your precious sabre; it's an unfair victory. Do you dare to compete with me like a true warrior?" Abaolin said in fluent Chinese.

"Do you know what a true warrior looks like?" Lin Yue smiled.

"Fight me bare-handed!" Abaolin shouted.

"True warriors don't make excuses; they only face difficulties directly.

Stop stalling; it's pointless."

Lin Yue said calmly, "From the moment you set your sights on Great Qin, your current fate was sealed."

"Today's Great Qin is not something you foreign people can covet."

Lin Yue had long seen through his intention to stall for time. The fleeing young man must have been of noble status to warrant these thousand cavalrymen fighting to this extent.

But he saw that Pan Feng had gone after him, so there was no major concern. He didn't believe anyone here could defeat Pan Feng.

Even if there was, it wouldn't be that young man!

He suddenly remembered the saying, 'Villains die from talking too much,' and realized he seemed like a villain at the moment.

Thinking this, Lin Yue slashed with his sabre. Abaolin closed his eyes in despair, scenes from his life flashing before him: the chieftain's words about an omen from the heavens, the coming chaos in Great Qin, and how the tribe could secretly take in some 'outsiders' to prepare for the future.

"Pfft!"

Blood splattered, and a head rolled to the ground!

Abaolin, dead!

"Your commander is dead! Surrender and live!" Xing Daorong roared, and the eyes of the surrounding cavalrymen all fell upon the severed head being held aloft.

Then, after a commotion, came the scattered sounds of weapons falling to the ground.

Lin Yue looked around and realized the red sun was rising; unconsciously, the sky had already brightened slightly.

The ground was covered in blood, broken arrows, weapons, and Soldiers.

There were foreign people, and there were Qin People.

"Set up camp here! Treat the wounded Soldiers with all your might! Do not abandon any comrade!" Lin Yue shouted!

"Imprison the surrendered foreign cavalry and await orders."

"Where is Pan Feng? Has Pan Feng not returned yet?"

"Send out a team of Soldiers to search for Pan Feng."

"Count the wounded and..." Lin Yue paused, looking at the many comrades lying on the ground, then continued, "the number of those killed in battle. Report it to me later."

A series of commands were issued, and the White Horse Righteous Cavalry began to operate in an orderly fashion.

The White Horse Righteous Cavalry were all drawn from various infantry units and had long witnessed the bloodshed of the battlefield.

Among those present, perhaps only Lin Yue felt some discomfort.
