204: Dig a hole

"Light the fires, and send our Brothers on their way!"

As soon as he finished speaking, special personnel poured oil on the Soldiers, and with a spark, a raging fire ignited. Everyone sobbed softly but held back, afraid that their Brothers would not rest peacefully.

It was not until the flames engulfed the bodies of their Brothers and everyone could no longer see those familiar faces that Lin Yue said in a deep voice:

"Afterward, each Brother will have a separate jar; there must be no omissions!

Label them with their names. Each of our Brothers will carry a jar with him, and when we return to Great Qin, we will bury them. We must bring them home."

"Understood!" everyone responded loudly!

Fallen leaves return to their roots; may they rest in peace.

This is the destiny of most people, but on the battlefield, it is rare, or even a luxury.

Even in later generations, there were heroes who only gradually returned to the embrace of their homeland decades later.

Even as time passed, it was fortunate that the motherland never gave up on bringing its heroes home!

Now, the White Horse Righteous Cavalry' warriors can avoid being buried in a foreign land. For them, this is a blessing in misfortune.

Lin Yue did not stay in place to wait, as it would take almost two hour.

The reason the evacuation time was set at two hours was to give them time, as it wasn't just about burning; there would also be time needed afterward for organization.

Lin Yue was afraid they might miss something, so he risked danger to allow more time, precisely because he didn't want this task to be rushed.

It was dawn.

The sun once again shone upon this land.

There was no wind today, which was good... After bidding farewell to the heroic spirits of his Brothers, Lin Yue rushed to the positions of Xing Daorong, Du Tong, and Du Song, where death was also being experienced.

"My Lord!" Xing Daorong exclaimed in surprise upon seeing Lin Yue.

"A Rong, how is it going?" Lin Yue asked.

Before Xing Daorong could speak, a blood-soaked figure walked over from a distance and said, "Gentleman of the Household, This humble general has led men to kill one hundred thousand Xiongnu people!

The Xiongnu people's blades are truly poor; This humble general has already replaced seven blades."

Lin Yue looked at him and hesitated before saying, "Are you Du Song?"

"It is This humble general. This humble general greets Gentleman of the Household!" Du Song said, cupping his hands and revealing his pearly white teeth!

Lin Yue looked at Du Song, who was covered in blood, and asked, "Why aren't you using your own blade?"

"This humble general is reluctant; if it were to become dull, This humble general would be heartbroken to death," Du Song said with a smile.

Lin Yue looked at the Xiongnu people who were being lined up and brought over, kneeling in a row, and asked, "Have you just been continuously chopping?"

Du Tong, with his arm in a sling, smiled and said, "Our Brothers are taking turns."

Lin Yue pondered silently. Half an hour had passed, and only one hundred thousand had been killed. In a total of two hours, that would only be four hundred thousand, not even enough to kill all the elite Soldiers of King Baiyang's Encampment!

Not to mention the ordinary Soldiers or even common Xiongnu people men. This efficiency was too low.

Time was pressing. After a nearly ten-thousand-li raid, they couldn't come in vain!

"A Rong, take Du Song outside for a while," Lin Yue instructed.

"Ah? Why?" Xing Daorong looked puzzled, not understanding.

"You take Du Song to wash himself. What kind of appearance is that, covered in blood?" Lin Yue said after thinking for a moment.

"Du Song can go by himself. Why do I have to go?" Xing Daorong was still somewhat confused.

"If I tell you to go, then go." Lin Yue frowned. Seeing this, Xing Daorong reluctantly led Du Song away.

As they walked, he said to Du Song, "Du Song, why do you think My Lord asked me to take you? Is he hiding something from me? Or was I in the way there?"

Du Song glanced at Xing Daorong, thinking that he had underestimated Xing Daorong before; he hadn't realized he wasn't that foolish.

Then Du Song chuckled and said:

"Commandant Xing, Gentleman of the Household and you are like Brothers; he certainly wouldn't hide anything from you. This humble general guesses that perhaps it was inconvenient for you to be there. When we return, I presume we will know the specific situation."

After hearing this, Xing Daorong thought about it and realized Du Song's explanation might be correct. When they reached the water source, he smiled and said, "Good boy, go wash yourself. I'll wait for you here."

"This humble general obeys," Du Song said with a smile, then called two Soldiers to help him clean.

Xing Daorong sat on the ground, patted his head, and sighed:

"It seems I need to find a clever person to help me strategize. Now that Lao Pan is gone, why has my mind turned into a mess!"

Du Song was right; Lin Yue indeed felt that Xing Daorong's presence was somewhat inconvenient, as he wasn't sure if Xing Daorong could understand his intentions and feared he might mess things up.

Du Tong, on the other hand, appeared more astute than Xing Daorong. After a few whispered words with Lin Yue, he smiled and stepped aside.

Du Tong, with his left arm bandaged, gave Lin Yue a thumbs-up with his right hand and smiled, "Gentleman of the Household, brilliant!"

Lin Yue smiled and nodded. Du Tong then took a few steps forward, cleared his throat, and shouted:

"Everyone, stop!"

The White Horse Righteous Cavalry Soldiers, who were raising their butcher knives to strike, heard the command and put away their long blades. Like the Xiongnu Soldiers kneeling on the ground, about to face death, they stared at Du Tong with bewildered eyes.

"Everyone, stop. From now on, no one is allowed to kill Xiongnu people with a blade!" Du Tong said.

The White Horse Righteous Cavalry Soldiers looked at Du Tong with puzzled and confused expressions.

"To bury our fallen Brothers, we are now conscripting these Xiongnu people as laborers to dig graves for the Soldiers.

Starting now, form teams and distribute equipment to the Xiongnu people.

Fifty thousand people per group! A total of six groups!

You must dig a large enough area within the time it takes for two incense sticks to burn, otherwise, behead them!" Du Tong declared!

Immediately, Soldiers loudly translated Du Tong's words into the Xiongnu people language!

Upon hearing this, the Xiongnu Soldiers were overjoyed, their hearts somewhat disbelieving! They had walked through the gates of hell and unexpectedly found a turning point; they wouldn't have to die!

The White Horse Righteous Cavalry Soldiers, however, were somewhat dissatisfied and began to speak up.

"We can dig graves too!"

"Why should the Xiongnu people dig graves to bury our fallen Brothers? They are not worthy!"

"That's right, we disagree!"

Du Tong frowned and said, "You are responsible for supervising, and you need to save your strength for other things!"

"We have plenty of strength; we cannot let these Xiongnu people off!"

"Right! Kill them! Kill them!"

Everyone voiced their dissatisfaction. The Xiongnu Soldiers, seeing the White Horse Righteous Cavalry Soldiers so agitated and displeased, believed most of what they heard!

Lin Yue took a few steps forward, stood beside Du Tong, and said to the agitated crowd:

"Do as Commandant Du says."

Lin Yue's voice was not loud, but at his words, no one dared to object.

After all, Lin Yue had led them to victory against one opponent after another, earning countless merits!

Now, Lin Yue's prestige among the White Horse Righteous Cavalry was unmatched; no one dared to question him!

The White Horse Righteous Cavalry Soldiers all sighed, then vented their frustration by hitting the Xiongnu Soldiers beside them. The Xiongnu Soldiers, even while being beaten, did not forget to thank Lin Yue, kneeling on the ground and kowtowing to him.

Lin Yue saw this, rubbed his nose, and once again stepped back.
