19: Military Marquis

It is rumored that King Zhao of Yan of the Yan State, following Guo Wei's advice, built the Golden Terrace to attract talents from the six states!

Later, when Han Tan and many young Eunuchs were cleaning the Golden Terrace, they discovered a brick had fallen. Han Tan, fearing punishment, secretly hid it on his person.

Unexpectedly, the Yan State was soon conquered, and The First Emperor ordered the Golden Terrace to be destroyed, so no one discovered this matter. However, the brick absorbed a trace of spiritual energy and developed an effect. After Han Tan secretly told his godfather, his godfather instructed him to place it in a storage ring and keep it safe.

【Golden Terrace (Incomplete): Infused with the aura of the Golden Terrace, when placed in a Fief, it absorbs Dragon Qi, increasing the probability of talent in villages by +1%, improving the aptitude of villagers, and increasing the probability of attracting high-level or special talents by +1%. (Upgradeable, not stackable)】

“This item is useless to me, but it would be a shame to discard it. I have kept it hidden on my person. Today, seeing you, my brother, I realize this is a fated encounter!” Han Tan handed the brick to Lin Yue.

“Absolutely not, this is far too precious!”

Lin Yue quickly declined, yet his hands tightly gripped the brick.

Han Tan's eyes were filled with tears, completely oblivious to these details: “Brother, you have given me such an immortal elixir. What is this incomplete item compared to that?”

“Since that is the case, then I shall accept it.” Lin Yue immediately cupped his hands in thanks.

“My greatest gain today is gaining a brother,” Han Tan said, pulling Lin Yue's hand closer.

Lin Yue broke out in goosebumps, forcing a smile as he said, “Me too.”

“It's a pity I have to return to the palace and cannot stay long.” Han Tan pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Lin Yue: “The top contains information about my Mother, and the bottom is an address in Xianyang City, which you can use to contact me, Brother.”

“Alright.” Lin Yue glanced at it, saw the address was a rice shop, and paid it no further attention.

“This is my godfather's token, Brother. You can use it if you encounter trouble; perhaps it will help you.” Han Tan handed Lin Yue another token, on which the three large characters for Directorate of Ceremonial were displayed!

It seems the Eunuchs in the game are set up according to the twelve directorates of the Ming Dynasty, and among the twelve, the Directorate of Ceremonial held the most power. This item is very useful!

“Thank you!” Lin Yue put the token into his bosom.

“Then I shall return to the palace. Brother, you must contact me often,” Han Tan said reluctantly.

“Take care!”

Afterward, Han Tan looked back at Lin Yue every three steps, and Lin Yue felt the hairs on his body stand on end.

Seeing Han Tan walk out of the Encampment, Lin Yue looked at the money, brick, and address on the table, speechless for a moment. Since ancient times, it had always been civil and military officials giving gifts to Eunuchs. How was it that today he experienced a Eunuch giving him a gift?

This novel experience left him somewhat stunned for a moment.

As Han Tan walked out of the Encampment, he suddenly stopped and gazed at the moon. The accompanying Eunuchs also stopped, looking at each other, not understanding why this newly favored person was suddenly looking at the moon.

Although he didn't know if his Mother was still alive at this moment, with his godfather and Brother Lin Yue, he would never feel lonely again.

“Let's go,” Han Tan said to the people behind him.

“Brother is also a person of misfortune. His grandfather was killed by the Xiongnu people when he was nine. Alas.” Han Tan felt a pang of pity.

“Hmm, why do I always feel like something isn't quite right?” Han Tan shook his head but didn't think too much about it, secretly thinking, “Brother, wait for me. When I rise to power, I will guarantee your lifelong prosperity!”

...Early the next morning, the sun was faintly bright.

The Encampment gradually became busy, with the sounds of training echoing incessantly.

At this moment, Lin Yue was distracted, his face sallow, and his thick dark circles clearly indicated a sleepless night. His eyes were fixed on the table.

“Squad Leader, the Great General is looking for you.” Li Mu entered to report, looking a bit surprised by Lin Yue's appearance, and couldn't help but ask, “Squad Leader, what's wrong?”

“Nothing, I'll be right there,” Lin Yue said indifferently.

Li Mu didn't ask further, assuming it was due to being overly excited after being ennobled.

“Alas!” Lin Yue vigorously ran his hand through his hair, muttering to himself, “Was I a bit too much?”

“I'm really not a good person!”

He had wanted to build a relationship and invest in a future formidable person, but he went too far and couldn't stop. Recalling Han Tan's crying and laughing, he always felt as if he had deceived him.

After a long while, he finally said with remorse, “What a sin.”

When Lin Yue arrived at the main tent, he found General Meng Tian already reviewing documents.

“Squad Leader Lin Yue, greets the Great General!” Lin Yue cupped his hands.

General Meng Tian waved his hand, telling him to sit down, then smiled, “Congratulations, you have been granted the title of Baron!”

“Your Subordinate thanks the Great General for the grace of promotion!” Lin Yue cupped his hands again.

He knew that although he could gain merit from the battle of defending the city alone, it was still not enough for the standard of a Baron.

If General Meng Tian hadn't written a letter of recommendation, he would never have received this title, so Lin Yue expressed his heartfelt gratitude.

“The Qin People value military achievements the most; this is all what you deserve,” General Meng Tian said with a smile.

In fact, he was also a little puzzled. He had originally thought there would be rewards of gold and silver treasures, so why was he suddenly granted a title? However, he didn't delve into it. Seeing a loyal and righteous Soldier like Lin Yue being ennobled, he was genuinely happy.

“Now that you are a Baron, serving as a Squad Leader is a bit of an underutilization of your talent.”

“It just so happens that I need to develop a cavalry army here, so you will serve as a Military Marquis of one division.”

“Li Mu is skilled in horsemanship, so I will transfer Li Mu to you.”

Cavalry? Isn't this like a pillow arriving when one is sleepy? His White Horse Righteous Cavalry are here!

“Thank you, Great General!” Lin Yue said excitedly.

One division has three thousand men, so he has been promoted again!

Moreover, this is a Military Marquis of the Great Wall Legion, far from what a Military Marquis of other units could compare to!

【Congratulations to the player for being the first player to achieve the position of “Military Marquis,” rewarding the player with Silver Military General Recruitment Order × 1!】

【Silver Military General Recruitment Order: Can summon high-level or Third-rate Military Generals!】

“I will give you ten days of leave. After you arrange matters in your Fief, return to the Encampment.”

“Understood!” Lin Yue accepted the order and then withdrew.

Upon exiting, he saw Li Mu already waiting for him.

“Squad Leader Li Mu, greets the Military Marquis.” Li Mu cupped his hands.

“Li Mu, no need for formalities.

I will go to my Fief tomorrow. These three thousand men will be selected and trained by you.”

“Additionally, all warhorses and military equipment will also be your responsibility.” Lin Yue smiled at Li Mu. He had a good impression of Li Mu, and Li Mu was familiar with the Great Wall Legion, so he was currently the most suitable person for these tasks.

“Understood!” Li Mu smiled. Being entrusted with such an important task proved Lin Yue's trust in him!

“When training the Soldiers, try to raise the standards, especially for horsemanship and archery!”

“I want to form an elite cavalry army!” Lin Yue said in a deep voice.

The elite cavalry army is naturally the White Horse Righteous Cavalry!

The requirements for the White Horse Righteous Cavalry are very strict, not only requiring excellent warhorses, but also requiring the Soldiers to have outstanding horsemanship!

Horsemanship is a type of skill attribute, which also includes medicine, forging, agriculture, archery, etc., divided into six stages, from low to high: Ignorant, Beginner, Proficient, Skilled, Outstanding, and Masterful.

Among Lin Yue's own skill attributes, most were Ignorant, a few were Beginner, and his highest, horsemanship, was only Proficient!

Fortunately, there didn't seem to be any rigid requirements at the moment; it was just a reflection of the player's real-life strengths. Someone on the forum said that they were an ethnic dance teacher, and after entering the game, their dance skills were Outstanding!

And in the game, targeted training can also be conducted to improve skills.

It was a pity that he was a programmer and didn't have access to these. Besides a certain part of his body being specialized, he had no other special skills.

Even his own horsemanship didn't meet the requirements of the White Horse Righteous Cavalry, which showed how strict the formation of the White Horse Righteous Cavalry was!

“Here are the training methods. You should train according to this first.” Lin Yue handed the White Horse Righteous Cavalry blueprint to Li Mu.

“Is this... a special troop blueprint?” Li Mu asked uncertainly.

“Yes, you should train according to this.”

“Understood! Your Subordinate will not fail the mission!” Li Mu roared, his heart unable to stop boiling at the thought of an elite cavalry army!

Cavalry is the main force in fighting the Xiongnu people. Great Qin will fight the Xiongnu people sooner or later; it's only a matter of time!

The more elite the cavalry is now, the more military achievements they will be able to obtain then. No Qin People dislikes military achievements!

“Go rest. You can start training tomorrow.” Lin Yue patted Li Mu's shoulder and walked out.
