414: Xiangzi, what is your dream?

At dawn the next day, Lin Yue welcomed Prince Gao, who was taking over from him, and then he led the Cavalrymen off duty.

“Brothers, I noticed everyone wasn’t in good spirits yesterday, perhaps too tired from training. So today, everyone, go home, rest, and get some sleep. We’ll meet at our usual spot at noon.” Lin Yue’s brows furrowed slightly as he looked at the dispirited Cavalrymen before him.

“Understood!” The Cavalrymen responded, their faces etched with exhaustion.

Lin Yue knew they were tired; after a full day of training, they had to stand guard all day. Anyone would be exhausted.

However, the Emperor’s command was not to be defied, and Cavalrymen needed to maintain their bearing, so Lin Yue chose to adjust the training time to noon today. This way, they would at least have a full day to rest.

Then, Lin Yue led the Generals out of Zhangtai Gate.

Lin Yue looked left and right, not seeing Da Hu or Er Hu, but he did see his own carriage.

The coachman on the carriage, seeing Lin Yue, immediately jumped down and came to greet him.

“May I ask, sir, are you Earl Lin?” The coachman bowed and asked.

“How do you know that the Earl Lin you speak of is me?” Lin Yue asked, puzzled.

“Sir, I am the coachman hired by Madam Xing. Madam Xing told this humble one that among the people walking out of Zhangtai Palace at this time, the most handsome and dashing one would be the person I was looking for.” The coachman looked at Lin Yue with sincerity.

“What did you say?” Lin Yue asked again, as if he hadn’t heard clearly.

The coachman was startled, then spoke a little louder: “Madam Xing told… the most handsome and dashing…”

“Alright, I understand.” Lin Yue smiled broadly, then asked, “By the way, what’s your name, and how many years have you been a coachman?”

“Sir, this humble one’s name is Xiang Zi.

Rest assured, this humble one has been pulling carriages for over ten years; I’ve covered all of Xianyang City and know it well.”

Xiang Zi was a bit proud. One must know that in Xianyang City, with its three hundred million people, some people who pulled carriages for decades wouldn’t dare say they had covered all of Xianyang City, but he had covered it all!

Because he was diligent; while others worked six hours a day, he worked eight. Except during curfew, he worked through all weather, earning countless praises.

This is how he was recommended to be a coachman for an Earl’s Mansion. To be able to drive a carriage, one could say he was overjoyed!

“Xiang Zi?” Lin Yue scrutinized him upon hearing the name.

Xiang Zi felt a bit uncomfortable under the gaze, thinking his appearance didn’t please his employer, and his heart was in turmoil. In these times, finding such a well-paying job was like his ancestral grave smoking green.

If he lost this job because of his looks, he would wish he could just crash into a wall and die.

As he noticed the adult opposite him growing more and more serious, his heart gradually sank to the bottom.

Then he heard the adult opposite him suddenly ask, “Xiang Zi, what is your dream?”

Xiang Zi was stunned. He had served tens of thousands of customers, if not hundreds of thousands, but no one had ever asked him what his dream was!

But the way the adult asked, it didn’t seem like he was going to fire him, and the stone in his heart finally fell!

Then he grinned and said, “To answer the adult, my dream is to buy my own carriage!”

Lin Yue smiled upon hearing this, then patted his shoulder and stepped into the carriage: “Work hard, and when you’ve worked for three years, I’ll buy you a two-horse carriage.”

“Thank you, sir! Thank you, sir!”

Xiang Zi was overjoyed, his eyes full of hope. A two-horse carriage—how happy he would be!

Then Xiang Zi waited for the Generals to get into the carriage, and he also sat down: “Sir, this humble one is not yet very familiar with driving so many horses, so it might be a bit slow.”

“It’s alright, take your time. You’ll get used to it,” Lin Yue’s voice came, and Xiang Zi’s heart was even happier upon hearing it!

No wonder he could be an Earl; such a generous and Amiability person deserved his wealth and glory!

… Xiang Zi’s arrival was just an interlude. Lin Yue returned to the Earls Mansion and, as usual, immediately fell asleep. After staying up all night, he was very tired.

Then, as the sun was high in the sky, he vaguely smelled a fragrance and felt someone gently pushing him. He opened his eyes to see Yi He calling him: “Sir, please wake up. There’s someone named Lu Bu at the gate looking for you.”

Lin Yue’s brain was muddled from lack of sleep. He sat up slowly and groggily. Fortunately, Yi He’s technique was good; after her massage, his head immediately cleared up a lot.

Then Lin Yue got up and walked out. When he reached the reception hall, Lu Bu was already waiting there.

Lin Yue stepped into the main hall and said with a smile, “Brother Lü, I just fell asleep. I made you wait a long time, please forgive me!”

“Brother Lin, what are you saying? Are you treating me, Lu Bu, as an outsider?

Besides, we’re all the same; who doesn’t just fall asleep as soon as they get home?” Lu Bu didn’t mind.

“Haha, Brother Lü, what brings you here?” Lin Yue cupped his hands and smiled. It had to be said, Lu Bu’s personality was quite good.

“I’m here to drink with you, of course! Didn’t you promise me last night? Look, I even brought the wine!” Lu Bu pulled out a porcelain bottle from his bosom. “This is good wine, thirty years old. I spent a fortune to get it, just wanting to drink it with you, Brother Lin!”

“Wait, wait, wait…” Lin Yue thought carefully. It seemed there was indeed such a thing, but he still had to train the Cavalrymen! Although the Cavalrymen didn’t need him to train them, it wouldn’t be right for him not to go!

“Brother Lin, do you have something to do?” Seeing Lin Yue’s reaction, Lu Bu opened the stopper of the porcelain bottle and waved the mouth of the bottle under Lin Yue’s nose. Immediately, the room was filled with the aroma of wine.

Lin Yue smiled wryly at this: “Brother Lü, this is really inconvenient. You know His Majesty ordered me to train the Cavalrymen, and the time is precisely noon today. You see, isn’t this a clash?

How about this, Brother Lü, I’ll host another day. Let’s skip today!”

“Training? That’s simple! Don’t worry, I’ll help you train them. It’ll be over quickly and won’t delay us brothers from drinking!” Lu Bu laughed heartily. Seeing it was just a small matter, he put an arm around Lin Yue’s shoulder and walked out.

Lin Yue couldn’t resist and had to call Zhao Yun, Aruhan, and Yang Dengshan to join him in the carriage, heading towards the training ground behind Xianyang Palace.

After they left, Guo Jia slowly walked into the reception hall, then sniffed vigorously, his face full of intoxicated expression.

At this moment, a majestic, snow-white, and tall warhorse also slowly stepped into the reception hall.

Guo Jia turned and stroked Da Hu’s head, mumbling, “Da Hu, after coming to Xianyang, you and I have both become birds in a cage.”

Then he pulled a flask of wine from his bosom and took a small sip himself.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to go out, but ever since he arrived in Xianyang City, he always had a feeling of being watched. Until he could ensure his safety, he wouldn’t let others know of his existence…
