287: clever

"Where is Totomu?" the Right Wise King asked.

"Reporting to Right Wise King, General Totomu's whereabouts have not yet been discovered," the scout said.

The Right Wise King frowned deeply, and after a moment of thought, he made a decision: "Order the entire army to withdraw in an orderly fashion."

"Uncle! Aren't we going to kill Lin Yue first!" Wuluoli said anxiously. Now that he was just one step away from killing Lin Yue, he was unwilling to give up.

The Right Wise King raised his hand to stop Wuluoli. He understood what Wuluoli was thinking; it was indeed a good opportunity to kill Lin Yue, but with the current change in the situation, he couldn't take that risk for the sake of a Great Wall Legion general.

"The mountains are high and the waters are far, there's no need to rush this moment. Besides, isn't it better to leave him alive so you can personally kill him in the end?" the Right Wise King said in a deep voice.

Wuluoli, though unwilling, said nothing more after hearing this.

"Withdraw. Now is not the time for a major battle," the Right Wise King gave his final order, then looked at the approaching Qin Army, and finally turned his horse around and left.

Wuluoli and the others followed.

As the Xiongnu Cavalry withdrew in an orderly fashion, the pressure on Lin Yue and the others gradually decreased, until the last batch of Xiongnu Cavalry had withdrawn, and they finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"What happened?" Yang Yan'an, the Third Son, asked in confusion.

"Reinforcements have arrived," Lin Yue said calmly.

Because the communication token in his arms had been ringing non-stop like a text message bombardment for a quarter of an hour.

But at that time, he was engaged in a fight with the Xiongnu Cavalry and had no time to deal with it. It wasn't until he heard unbearable curses from the communication token that he felt a bit of trepidation.

"Wu De, come here," Lin Yue suddenly said with a smile.

Wu De's body trembled. He knew too well how much his master was a scoundrel... no, how much he was not human... no, that's not right, how clever he was.

"Yes," Wu De responded, but he clutched his reins tightly, not letting his warhorse move a step forward.

Seeing this, Lin Yue smiled, then spurred his horse to Wu De's side and loudly laughed: "Wu De, you did well. You kept the communication token very safe. The spoils of war on that person are your reward."

Everyone looked in the direction Lin Yue pointed, only to see a Xiongnu Military General, whom Lin Yue had just killed, lying in a pool of blood. The armor on that person was more solid compared to other Xiongnu Cavalry, clearly indicating he was a Foreman of this cavalry unit. As for the spoils of war, since Lin Yue had cut off his head with one strike, the armor was undamaged, so that single piece of armor alone was worth a lot of money.

A hint of envy appeared in everyone's eyes. Just by keeping a communication token, one could receive such a reward; it was practically like being given money!

It seemed that being a personal guard for the master brought many benefits, something that middle-ranking officers like them couldn't compare to.

Wu De also swallowed, this armor could easily be sold for forty or fifty taels of silver, but there was still some hesitation in his eyes.

"I heard General She Jian," Lin Yue ignored everyone's varied expressions, picked up the communication token, and responded, "Wu De was keeping the communication token just now, he just handed it to me."

Wu De was startled and was about to retort, but Lin Yue didn't give him a chance and continued:

"What? I don't know? Wu De didn't tell me before!"

"Yes, I really didn't know. I usually put the token with him because I thought he was quite clever."

"General, don't be angry anymore. Wu De might have just been nervous and forgotten."

"Please calm down, don't hurt yourself with anger, I'll deal with him then."

"Alright, alright, General, I'll wait for you. I definitely won't let him off."

Wu De listened to Lin Yue's words, his mouth agape.

He hadn't even agreed yet!

A smile played on Lin Yue's lips, then he patted Wu De's shoulder and walked to the side to wait.

A moment later, a cavalry unit approached from a distance, led by none other than She Jian!

Seeing She Jian approaching furiously, Lin Yue, though feeling a bit guilty, still tried his best to put on an innocent, harmless smile: "General!"

She Jian glared at him, and when he reached him, he raised his hand!

He slapped the helmet of Wu De, who was standing beside Lin Yue, hard!

"Bang..."

"Buzz..."

The sound of the slap on the helmet still had a slight echo. Wu De barely managed not to fall off his horse, but his head was buzzing!

Lin Yue quickly helped Wu De, checked his breathing, and only relaxed after finding he was fine.

"Kid, you and I both know the truth. Next time, it won't be so simple," She Jian said, glaring fiercely at Lin Yue.

Lin Yue's heart fluttered, but then he thought that She Jian must be bluffing him, so he directly said, "It really was with him."

"Hmm? You still want to lie to me?

Tell me the truth, and this matter will be over. Otherwise, hehehe..." She Jian said with a sinister smile, his face contorted.

"If you don't believe me, ask them," Lin Yue said with a firm expression.

She Jian looked over and saw everyone nodding frantically.

"It's true, the General just went over to retrieve the communication token, we all saw it," Yang Yansi, the Seventh Son, nodded.

"That's right, Wu De even received a reward, and then the General spoke into the communication token," Yang Yanzhao, the Sixth Son, chimed in.

"Yes, we all saw it!" Yang Yanshun, the Eighth Son, said.

She Jian's expression was a bit uncertain. He always felt something was off, but couldn't pinpoint what it was, so he waved his hand and dismissed him.

After the Soldier bowed and returned to his place, the Soldier next to him asked, "Old Wang, aren't your eyes a bit blurry? How did you see so clearly?"

Old Wang smiled upon hearing this: "My eyes might not be good, but my ears are, aren't they? You'll see, after I speak, everything will be fine."

"General?" Lin Yue prompted, looking at She Jian who was still deep in thought.

"Ah," She Jian snapped back to reality, and his left hand, which had been hidden behind his back, finally emerged.

In his hand, he held half a steel spear, as thick as a wrist, which he had picked up from somewhere. After coming to his senses, he threw it aside.

Lin Yue watched the wrist-thick half-spear hit the ground, and his heart twitched. It seemed his persistence was right; all the previous actions were just a disguise, used by She Jian to lull him into a false sense of security. This half-spear was prepared for him!

Then he heard She Jian say, "Has Wuluoli been captured?"
