8: Chapter 8 Cat People, Passing on the Flame of Civilization
Suddenly, an unusual sound came from not far away.
Chu Xingyang looked up and saw that, at some point, four fluffy Cat-eared Girls had appeared on the snow!
"Are these sisters of yours here to find you?" he asked, looking at the excited Sweet Dumpling.
Sweet Dumpling nodded and beckoned her sisters over. Then she walked over and kept circling around them.
The four Cat-eared Girls quickly understood that this strangely-looking deity with divine power was the savior of their relative.
Sweet Dumpling led her sisters to express their gratitude to their savior once again. Then, she placed her paw on his chest, a look of confusion in her eyes.
Chu Xingyang was stunned for a moment, but soon understood what they meant: "Do you want to know what my name is?"
The five Cat-eared Girls smiled in unison.
"I am Xingyang. I am that sun!"
Amidst their confused expressions, Chu Xingyang pointed to the sky.
The five sisters immediately knelt down in panic. The sun was the only source of warmth and light in this vast, snowy, white world. Unable to speak yet, they already possessed a primitive worship of the sun!
Furthermore, since this great deity had actually saved their relative, they had already identified the person before them in their hearts as the ancestor of all things and the cornerstone of civilization!
Chu Xingyang was still not used to the devout kneeling of these Cat-eared Girls, so he quickly reached out to help them up.
At this moment, Sweet Dumpling made a gesture of putting food into her mouth towards him.
"Are you asking if I am hungry?" Chu Xingyang nodded. Come to think of it, it had been ten billion years since he was reborn, and he truly hadn't even had a drop of water.
Seeing the deity's confirmation, the other four big cats immediately got up and left. Chu Xingyang lay lazily on Sweet Dumpling's belly, wondering if they had stored food nearby.
Before long, the four sisters brought back some raw meat that looked very much like rabbit legs and presented it very respectfully to their savior.
Looking at the rabbit legs with blood long frozen into ice, Chu Xingyang couldn't accept it and just sat quietly to the side.
Sweet Dumpling picked up one of the legs and gnawed on it to show the god.
Fresh blood stained Sweet Dumpling's snow-white fur, appearing both vivid and eerie.
Chu Xingyang frowned, used his ability to attract two tree trunks, and then made the tip of one rotate rapidly against the other.
Soon, flames sprang out.
He kept adding branches, and in the blink of an eye, a bonfire was burning fiercely on the snow.
The five Cat-eared Girls initially showed expressions of terror, but after a brief hesitation, they were drawn to the warm flames.
Sweet Dumpling even extended her cat paw, slowly approaching the dancing, warmth-radiating flames.
Only when her fur was singed by the flames, emitting a pungent white smoke, did she unwillingly pull it back and carefully lick her paw.
Chu Xingyang smiled and said: "I like to eat cooked food." He then skinned the rabbit legs and placed them over the bonfire to roast slowly.
Before long, the aroma of melting fat wafted out. Smelling this scent they had never encountered before, the five Cat-eared Girls couldn't help but look up, realizing that the raw meat they usually loved to eat was no longer appetizing.
They walked over and sat obediently around the bonfire.
While roasting, Chu Xingyang said: "You have kept me company for so long, it is time to feed you. Come! Open your mouths!"
He tore the cooked meat into pieces and took turns feeding them to the five Cat-eared Girls.
The Cat-eared Girls were all enjoying it; this wonderful aroma of fat and the fibrous texture of cooked meat were far more delicious than their previous food.
While chewing, Sweet Dumpling kept looking back and forth between the bonfire and Chu Xingyang, feeling that this was the deity imparting the seeds of fire to them.
Chu Xingyang also bit off a large piece of meat and stuffed his mouth. He was enjoying the first meal since he had acquired a body.
Then, he watched quietly as Sweet Dumpling and the others learned from his example, bringing over the raw meat they hadn't eaten yet and placing it on the bonfire to roast.
Although they were not of the "Homo sapiens" species, they certainly belonged to humanity; their learning ability was truly strong.
Sweet Dumpling was even trying to drill wood to make fire!
Time passed minute by minute, the sun set behind the mountains, and the sky gradually darkened.
The snowy plains at twilight were so beautiful that they were refreshing to the mind.
Chu Xingyang pointed in the direction of the mountains, signaling that it was time for them to go back, to return to their own tribe.
The five Cat-eared Girls lingered around him, rubbing their furry heads against him; this was how the Cat-eared Girls expressed submission and affection.
Chu Xingyang stroked their large, soft ears, thought for a moment, and said softly: "Let's call you Cat People, just like the ape-men."
After looking at each other, the five sisters nodded one after another, clearly very satisfied with the name the deity had given their species.
After a lingering moment, the sky grew dark, and the Cat-eared Girls knew they had to leave.
After bidding them farewell, Chu Xingyang strode toward the depths of the snowy plains.
They would definitely meet again in the future. He couldn't bear to look back, thinking secretly in his heart. At the very least, he would meet their descendants.
The Cat-eared Girls watched his receding figure intently. The great, the only, the deity who brought the seeds of fire and civilization to the Cat People!
They were determined to pass on the great glory of the god from generation to generation.
Not long after walking, Chu Xingyang arrived at a huge, pitch-black cave entrance.
He walked in unhurriedly and lay down on a hibernating polar bear.
Then he yawned and thought to himself, I'll have a good sleep, and wait until most species have developed language before coming out. That way, it will be more convenient for both observation and communication.
