21: Exquisite manuscript, astonishing the boss
Qin Yun shook his head and quickly explained.
"No, no, no, fifty thousand is already a lot for a manuscript. If I didn't accept, I would be too greedy."
Unexpectedly receiving an extra fifty thousand dollars made Qin Yun extremely happy.
Besides, he had already made a fortune from the Dance Costumes. Trying to fleece the Tycoon again would be going too far.
He still needed to continue making a living in Borton City, and befriending a highly influential Tycoon was absolutely necessary.
If he found collectibles related to the entertainment industry in the future, he could continue selling them to Paul. This was a long-term strategy.
Seeing how honest Qin Yun was, Paul laughed heartily a few times.
"You are a good person, a true friend."
He extended his hand toward the Butler, who immediately took out a checkbook and a pen from his bag.
After signing his name with a flourish, he took a business card from his pocket and pushed it, along with the check, toward Qin Yun.
"This is my business card. If you find any collectibles related to movies in the future, you can call me."
Paul, being immensely wealthy, was naturally no fool. He could tell that although Qin Yun was young, he lacked the arrogance and greed typical of youth and was very measured in his conduct.
That was why he gave Qin Yun a business card—something he hadn't easily given out over the years.
Qin Yun accepted the business card and the check, examined the card carefully, and then cautiously placed it into his wallet.
"If I'm lucky enough to find something, I will definitely contact you first."
Qin Yun paused, then revealed his original intention.
"I have one favor to ask. I am short one card to complete my collection of the Golden Generation of Basketball draft cards, and I heard you might have some in your collection. I am willing to pay a high price for it."
Only a complete set of basketball cards could be sold for a high price, which was why he spoke so sincerely.
Seeing Qin Yun's serious expression, Paul initially thought he was asking for a major favor.
Realizing it was only about buying one of Allen's draft cards, he immediately burst into laughter.
"I have star cards of Allen from every period, and more than one of each."
"Allen is indeed an excellent player who has brought me a lot of joy watching the games..."
Qin Yun listened to Paul talk about his fondness for Allen, expecting to have to pay a hefty price, but Paul suddenly changed the subject, leaving Qin Yun stunned.
"However, we are friends. A small basketball card is nothing compared to our friendship. All of Allen's cards are in that box; just go and pick one."
Paul waved his hand dismissively and pointed toward a large box in the corner.
"Thank you so much, this truly helps me out a lot."
After thanking Paul, Qin Yun stood up and went to the box to look for the card.
Paul was eager to get his hands on Jackson's Dance Costumes and manuscript, so he instructed the Butler to look after the two guests.
Meanwhile, he took out his phone and told Tom to deliver the items to the manor as soon as possible.
The box contained various basketball cards. After Qin Yun found the Allen draft card he wanted, he said goodbye and left the huge manor.
In the car arranged by the Butler for their return, Julia still couldn't quite believe that Jackson's items had sold for such a high price.
"I really didn't expect it to sell for so much money. It seems finding the right buyer is indeed crucial!"
"But you sold all the manuscripts to him, so what about the Secondhand Store owner? Weren't you planning to use the manuscripts to trade for his shop?"
Hearing Julia's concern, Qin Yun simply smiled.
"Before handing the manuscripts over to Tom, I had already set aside the three best-looking ones. These will come in handy now."
Julia rubbed her eyes.
"W-what is going on? How could you have anticipated this..."
Her face was full of disbelief, and she greatly admired Qin Yun's seemingly prophetic foresight.
Qin Yun smiled, neither confirming nor denying Julia's question.
Before entrusting Jackson's treasures to Tom for safekeeping, the idea of opening a Secondhand Store had been very strong in his mind.
Rather than letting the reputation go to someone else for free, it was better to keep control of it himself.
There were many valuable items from the Warehouse Auction that needed processing, and a Secondhand Store was an indispensable channel for him.
To open a Secondhand Store, he needed some high-quality, reserved inventory, or else how could a new shop attract customers?
With this consideration in mind, Qin Yun had kept the three best manuscripts.
Seeing Qin Yun's confidence, Julia admired him even more.
As for the antique transaction, Qin Yun had fully authorized Tom to handle it, as he certainly couldn't afford to lose the one percent commission.
Since the price was already set, he left the troublesome details for Tom to handle and just waited to collect the money.
After leaving Paul's manor, Qin Yun still rushed to the Secondhand Store he had been thinking about.
After all, this was the first step in building his commercial empire.
As soon as he brought Julia into the shop, he saw a group of men in suits intensely discussing something with the shop owner.
Listening closer, the leader was the Manager of the neighboring Supermarket.
This man actually wanted to buy the Secondhand Store with money to expand the Supermarket.
The two parties had already discussed the price, and it looked like the owner intended to sell the Secondhand Store to them.
Julia listened on the side and felt something was wrong, unable to resist sternly rebuking the owner.
"How can you be like this? You're dishonest! Didn't we agree to trade it for the manuscript?"
She had assumed the Secondhand Store would belong to Qin Yun, and seeing that the two parties were close to finalizing a deal, she panicked.
The owner sneered indifferently a few times.
"Your news is too slow. The Auction House owner has already spread the word that Jackson's items were bought by the great Tycoon Paul."
"Nobody in Borton City is selling the manuscript anymore. What do you plan to use for the exchange?"
He hadn't expected the two strangers to actually be able to acquire the manuscript in the first place.
Moreover, the news that the manuscript had been bought by the Tycoon Paul had already spread.
At this moment, he felt somewhat disheartened, yet understood that everything was reasonable.
The Supermarket Manager's face instantly darkened upon seeing someone interfere. He had been negotiating with the old fellow for a long time.
Now that the old fellow was finally about to relent, someone ran out to cause trouble, and this was something he couldn't tolerate.
"Where did this hick come from, dreaming of good things? You should look at how much this shop is actually worth! Trying to exchange a single manuscript for the shop—you must be dreaming!"
"If you have the money, compete with us. If you don't, scram and stop causing trouble here, or we won't be polite!"
He had pleaded for a long time before the owner finally agreed; he absolutely would not allow anyone to ruin this!
Seeing the Manager speak this way, the group of subordinates immediately fixed warning gazes upon Qin Yun.
They seemed to be threatening Qin Yun that if he dared to utter another word of nonsense, they would take action.
Qin Yun disregarded the hostile attitude of the crowd, calmly taking out a manuscript and placing it on the table.
"Open your eyes and look at this!"
The Manager didn't know what this kid was up to, and seeing him pull out a piece of paper, he couldn't help but burst into laughter.
The Secondhand Store owner's heart jumped in surprise.
Could this kid really have done it?
Did he really find Jackson's manuscript?
