6: Treasure hunters' target
Being stared at directly by Julia's fiery eyes, Qin Yun could only nod his head.
Julia was extremely excited; she hugged Qin Yun directly and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
That warm touch and the fragrance of her hair drifting past his nose made Qin Yun startle slightly.
Could it be that girls abroad are all this open?
“Qin Yun, you are truly wonderful!” Julia's small face was flushed red, and she didn't realize there was anything inappropriate about her actions.
Qin Yun could only offer a smile. After the group exchanged a few more pleasantries, he stood up to leave Hank's house. Just as he was about to start his car, Julia chased after him again.
“Qin, thank you for taking me to participate in the Warehouse Auction.”
“I was too excited just now and forgot to tell you something. There's a Warehouse Auction tomorrow in the East District. Shall we go join the fun?”
Beneath Julia's fanatical gaze was a hint of shyness, making her look quite charming and delicate.
Qin Yun felt a bit unnerved by her burning gaze. Seeing that Julia had even planned everything out, he nodded and agreed.
“Alright, I don't have any arrangements tomorrow, so we can go together.”
After exchanging contact information, Qin Yun bid her farewell with a smile.
Julia watched Qin Yun leave, then jumped up happily with a “yeah,” becoming even more expectant of tomorrow's Warehouse Auction.
Returning home, Qin Yun busied himself with tidying up the house and didn't go to bed until late at night.
The best thing about being a Treasure Hunter was that there was no fixed work schedule, and sleep was very flexible, which was also what Qin Yun liked most.
Unexpectedly, on this particular morning, a rapid knocking at the door interrupted his pleasant dreams.
Qin Yun woke up groggily and remembered that he had an appointment with Julia to go treasure hunting in warehouses today. But why did this little girl arrive so early?
He quickly rolled out of bed, washed his face, and opened the door.
At this moment, Julia was wearing a short black skirt paired with thin black stockings and a white shirt, showcasing her long legs and S-curve to the fullest.
Dressed like a professional elite white-collar worker, she looked completely out of place in the dirty and messy stairwell.
Qin Yun was momentarily stunned. If he didn't know better, he would have thought some young female lawyer had come to his door to talk to him.
“Did I... arrive a bit early?” Julia felt a little embarrassed being stared at.
“No, no, no. Let's head out now.”
Qin Yun quickly tidied up and led Julia out of the apartment.
Walking down the dilapidated street, they quickly attracted the attention of many passersby who stopped to watch.
A wealthy, beautiful woman pulling along a tired-looking Chinese man—everyone filled in the blanks with melodramatic TV plots in their minds.
Some hoodlums even pointed at the two and whistled.
Julia didn't care about any of this; she pulled Qin Yun into the car, afraid they would miss the Warehouse Auction if they were late.
Qin Yun shook his head somewhat helplessly. “There's no rush. I haven't eaten yet.”
Julia said with a giggle, “I bought food already. We can just go directly.”
Looking at the burger and coffee in the bag, Qin Yun nodded inwardly. It seemed this female assistant wasn't hired for nothing.
In the passenger seat, Julia talked incessantly, not stopping even after an hour.
Her words were full of curiosity about the Warehouse Auction—how to choose a warehouse, and what treasures might be inside.
Her face was full of excitement, and she couldn't wait to show off her skills at the Warehouse Auction.
An hour later, Julia was a bit tired and leaned back with her eyes closed to rest.
Qin Yun was a bit puzzled. As a lawyer, Julia should have been calmly battling rivals in court; how could she be so excited and talkative?
Two hours later, the two finally arrived at the site of the Warehouse Auction.
As soon as she got out of the car, Julia attracted the gaze of everyone on the field. Everyone was stunned.
Why would such a hot and sexy beauty appear here?
With an extraordinary temperament and an intellectual air, she clearly looked like she came from high society.
Seeing Qin Yun following closely behind her, many felt a bit bitter in their hearts.
We're all Treasure Hunters, so why is this kid bringing a sexy secretary?
“This beauty is really stunning!”
“It seems this kid is getting ahead of himself. He even has a beautiful female secretary just to auction a warehouse!”
“Regardless, this kid is capable. If we keep a close eye on him, we’ll definitely strike it rich.”
“Right. We didn't follow his bid before, and let him get a bargain. When he bids this time, we must definitely suppress him!”
...Seeing Qin Yun leisurely bringing a beautiful woman, the group of rough men couldn't help but feel a bit jealous.
They were already envious of Qin Yun's luck, and now they were discussing further targeting him.
Hearing everyone's discussion, Qin Yun knew that today might be difficult.
With so many eyes watching, he couldn't easily pick up bargains like before.
However, there was no way around it. He had gained so much from the Warehouse Auctions and would surely find many more treasures in the future; he couldn't keep a low profile forever.
Julia had been a prominent figure in school, so she didn't care much about the opinions of those around her.
At this moment, all her attention was on the Warehouse Auction, and she directly ignored the surrounding voices.
“Are the Treasure Hunters here always this eager? The Warehouse Auction is about to start, right? How many are we going to bid on?”
Everything around her felt incredibly fresh, and her eyes curiously darted around at her surroundings.
Qin Yun didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Julia was like she was walking a red carpet; wearing such elegant clothes was like crashing the party. How could people not be enthusiastic?
“You'll get used to it. Once the auction starts, everyone will be different.”
Julia nodded seriously, her eyes occasionally sizing up the closed containers.
Soon, the auctioneer came over and announced the official start of the Warehouse Auction.
After opening the first container, everyone stepped forward in turn to inspect it. Then, like unrelated outsiders, they stared at Qin Yun without anyone saying a word.
Qin Yun didn't care about their behavior. He walked forward and saw seven or eight cardboard boxes in front, with many old clothes scattered on top.
Behind the cardboard boxes were many plastic chairs, and he could vaguely see some electrical appliances.
The clothes and chairs were of common styles; the owner of the warehouse didn't seem like a wealthy person, so he didn't use his Treasure Eye to check.
When the auctioneer started the bidding at a base price of fifty dollars, he was momentarily stunned to find that no one was bidding.
He looked back at the warehouse; the things inside weren't bad, so why was no one responding even to fifty dollars?
Julia noticed that the Warehouse Auction was different from what she had imagined and asked in a low voice in Qin Yun's ear.
“What's going on? Why isn't anyone bidding?”
Qin Yun found it a bit strange and raised his hand to signal.
“Fifty dollars.”
Seeing Qin Yun make a move, the people around immediately raised the price, and the warehouse price reached one hundred dollars.
Then they fell silent, their eyes fixed firmly on Qin Yun.
Qin Yun raised it to one hundred and fifty dollars, then looked at the Treasure Hunters present.
What on earth were these people up to?
Seeing Qin Yun raise the price, another round of bidding broke out on the scene, reaching two hundred and fifty dollars, before everyone looked back at Qin Yun.
Qin Yun knew that he was being targeted. As long as he bid, the Treasure Hunters present would increase the price by small increments.
However, this warehouse didn't have much value, so he didn't bid again.
Julia also saw the abnormality of the auction and glared at the crowd, questioning them.
“You guys are simply shameless. Is this how you raise prices?”
Mocking smiles appeared on everyone's faces. Instead of being ashamed of their previous despicable behavior, they were quite proud.
“Isn't this how a Warehouse Auction works?”
“The warehouse isn't yours. Are you the only ones allowed to bid?”
“Right. Warehouse Auctions are all about who has more money. I have money and I'm happy to raise the price, so what?”
...Julia wanted to say more, but Qin Yun took her hand and shook his head.
“Don't worry about it. This is perfectly normal.”
Watching everyone acting smug, with some even clenching their fists in provocation, Qin Yun couldn't help but feel quite a bit of anger.
He usually kept a low profile and never bid recklessly; these people's jealousy was just too much.
A flash of inspiration hit him, and he instantly had a plan.
Since these people were blinded by greed, he wouldn't be polite either.
Thinking of this, a subtle smile appeared on Qin Yun's face.
“Greed is an ineradicable nature, but greed also comes with a price.”
