90: Defeated opponents, not worth worrying about.
Seeing Qin Yun agree, Bruno looked delighted.
"It's wonderful that you're willing to help. You won't have to wait long; it's tomorrow."
"Tomorrow at 2:00 PM, there's a Warehouse Auction in the East Side of New York. I've already made an appointment with a friend to attend together. I'll send a car to pick you up from the manor where you're staying."
Things were proceeding better than he had imagined. Bruno was already picturing his good friend Humphrey losing.
With Qin Yun, the star player who had been shining brilliantly lately, Humphrey's helper would certainly stand no chance.
"Then it's settled. It's getting late, so I'll take my leave and go back to rest."
Now that the deal was made, Qin Yun didn't plan on wasting any more time here.
"This is the gift I promised you. Please, you must take it first, otherwise I'd be too embarrassed to see you again."
Although Bruno had his own little schemes, he stayed true to his word and handed Zhang Qian's tally stick to Qin Yun.
Qin Yun didn't refuse and accepted it directly.
He was afraid that if Bruno didn't value it, any slight damage to the tally stick would make him a sinner.
"Then I'll accept it for now. I'll see you tomorrow."
After bidding farewell to Bruno, Qin Yun and Julia took Bruno's car back to the manor where he was staying.
"Qin, that wooden staff in your hand must be something good, otherwise you wouldn't have agreed to Bruno's request."
Julia had been holding it in for a long time, and she couldn't help but ask once they returned to the room.
"This is the tally stick of Zhang Qian, the very first person to pioneer the Silk Road and open world trade routes."
"This tally stick holds significant meaning for the Xia Kingdom and even the entire world. That's why I agreed to Bruno's almost joking request."
Since Julia had gone through life and death with him, Qin Yun didn't hide anything from her.
"Ah."
Julia covered her mouth and stared at Qin Yun in surprise.
Zhang Qian's tally stick?
Wasn't Qin Yun's luck just too good?
The next day at noon, after the two had lunch, they headed to the Warehouse Auction site with Bruno.
The auction was held at the East Side Community Warehouses.
Before the auction even started, many Treasure Hunters had already gathered in the plaza.
Because the warehouses were in a wealthy area, everyone guessed there would be good stuff inside, so they were very enthusiastic.
As soon as they arrived at the auction site, Bruno stepped out of the car quite flamboyantly, performed a classic jazz dance, and then clapped his hands to greet everyone.
When everyone saw Bruno arrive, they gave him a warm welcome.
It seemed he was quite famous here.
However, Bruno's joy didn't last long before it was interrupted by a mocking voice.
"Isn't this my good friend Bruno? Did you encounter something happy? You'd better prepare some drink money; after I win, you can just buy everyone here a round."
A bald middle-aged man walked over, cast an envious glance at the popular, dancing Bruno, and spoke coldly.
This person was Bruno's old friend, Humphrey.
Hearing Humphrey's joking words, everyone on the field burst into laughter.
"I'll thank Bruno in advance for the fine wine. Bruno is good at everything, except for his eye for warehouses."
"I've had Bruno's drinks so many times I'm starting to feel a bit embarrassed. When will it be Humphrey's turn to pay?"
"Bruno, you need to show some backbone. Try not to lose too much money this time."
"Luckily Bruno has a deep family fortune, otherwise he'd lose everything down to his underwear in these Warehouse Auctions."
"But Humphrey is being a bit of a bully. Bruno originally had a twenty or thirty percent chance of winning, but after Humphrey brought in a helper, Bruno doesn't have a chance at all."
...Hearing everyone's discussion, Bruno's good mood vanished instantly.
He stopped interacting with the crowd and walked straight up to Humphrey.
"Are we really going to compete again this time?"
Bruno's face was dark, clearly showing his displeasure.
"Of course. Are so many people still waiting for you to buy them a drink?"
"A big Tycoon like you wouldn't be unable to afford to lose this little bit of money, right? No way, right? That doesn't seem like your usual style."
Humphrey's small eyes darted around constantly, and he spoke with a face full of smiles and a sarcastic tone.
"Unable to afford to lose? I, Bruno, would be unable to afford to lose?"
"You'd better not go back on your word when it's your turn to buy everyone drinks!"
Thinking about how he had invited Qin Yun to take action, Bruno was extremely confident in winning this battle, so he goaded Humphrey back.
"Hahaha, I'll lose? What kind of international joke are you playing? I haven't lost once in the past two weeks!"
"Have you lost so much you've gone stupid and forgotten the past? I'll give you a good memory boost today! I'll make you understand forever that you can't beat me!"
Humphrey said with a loud laugh.
He had the capital to be arrogant; ever since he got a consultant, he hadn't lost a single match against Bruno.
How could a Tycoon who was merely interested in warehouses compare to a professional Treasure Hunter?
"What do you have to be proud of? Isn't it just because you have a helper? Your own ability to judge warehouses isn't even as good as mine!"
Bruno was very indignant about losing to Humphrey.
"Finding a helper is also part of my ability. If you're so capable, why don't you find one too?"
"Look, here comes my helper. If you surrender now, I'll pay for today's drinks."
Humphrey said to Bruno with a smirk.
He knew Bruno cared about his reputation more than anything and would never admit defeat.
Saying this wasn't out of kindness; it was merely to mock Bruno.
If a Tycoon surrendered for this little bit of money, he would be ridiculed by everyone for a long time.
"This is Walter, an Expert in Warehouse Auctions. He's been in the business for five or six years and has made millions of dollars just from Warehouse Auctions. He's an undisputed big shot."
"Don't worry, everyone, I won't let Walter bully you. We'll only pick the very best warehouse and definitely won't bid on more!"
Humphrey walked toward the consultant he had hired with a beaming smile and happily introduced him to everyone.
"Nice to meet you all. I'm Walter. Don't be discouraged; there will be many warehouses worth bidding on here."
Walter cupped his hands. His words were humble, but the arrogance on his face betrayed his true thoughts.
After witnessing the 'friendly' exchange between the two, Qin Yun disliked Humphrey from the bottom of his heart.
From his appearance, speech, and actions, it was clear he was a petty man.
Seeing that his so-called consultant was actually Brother Wu Ying's boss,
his desire to help Bruno became even stronger.
Walter was enjoying the thrill of looking down on the crowd when he saw Qin Yun beside Bruno and was momentarily stunned.
How was this possible?
Why would the Eastern Kid participate in such a small-scale Warehouse Auction?
Facing the Eastern Kid, he truly had no confidence in winning.
Thinking of the many times he had suffered at Qin Yun's hands, Walter walked up with a face full of anger.
"You'd better be careful, kid, or I'll make sure you never leave New York!" Walter whispered threateningly as he approached Qin Yun.
New York was his turf; he wouldn't let Qin Yun go no matter what.
Besides, he was still thinking about the pile of treasures in Qin Yun's hands.
If this kid didn't know what was good for him, he would just kill him.
Qin Yun ignored Walter directly.
The two were already enemies; trading insults was useless and would only make others look down on him.
The only way was to settle it at the Warehouse Auction.
If this person continued to be a nuisance, he'd find an opportunity to get rid of him.
"Qin Yun, are you confident about facing Walter?"
Seeing that the two knew each other, Bruno began to worry.
Qin Yun shook his head and said calmly,
"That man is my defeated opponent. He's not even worth mentioning in my presence!"
