9: The draft cards of the golden generation
Qin Yun carefully took out the cards and found that they were all intact basketball star cards.
From the green light he had seen earlier, he knew these basketball cards were incredibly precious.
Checking them one by one, there were star cards of Iverson and Nash, and a Kobe collector's card was among them.
All the star cards had a special protective film, showing how much the warehouse owner valued these cards.
“It seems my luck is still very strong; with these star cards, winning this Warehouse Auction was worth it.”
Julia didn't know much about basketball star cards, but they looked like they were worth some money.
“Basketball star cards have been quite popular in the collecting world recently. As long as you find the right buyer, they're easy to sell.”
Qin Yun thought of Tom from the used car dealership and had a plan in mind.
If the price was right, he could sell the star cards to Tom.
“I don't know much about basketball cards. Let's finish cleaning the warehouse and then head to the Auction House for an appraisal.”
With so many gains, Julia no longer minded doing the dirty work, and it took an hour to dispose of the trash.
Thinking about the Warehouse Auction process while in the car, she admired Qin Yun's methods immensely.
To have such a large harvest while being targeted by all the Treasure Hunters, Qin Yun's abilities seemed quite significant.
She had been worried about not finding any good treasures today, but as it turned out, Qin Yun's gains were more than she had imagined.
Anxious to know the value of the silver coins and basketball cards, the two wiped their faces with wet wipes and went to the Auction House where Hank worked.
Hank had just finished appraising a collection for a customer at the counter when his expression changed upon seeing a woman in dirty clothes appear.
Seeing that Qin Yun's clothes were also covered in dust and that the smiles on their faces couldn't be hidden, he finally understood.
Qin Yun and his daughter had participated in a Warehouse Auction, and it seemed they had some gains; a smile appeared on his face as well.
His daughter and Qin Yun were talking and laughing; it seemed they got along well, and his daughter was finally no longer staying cooped up at home.
Several customers recognized Qin Yun; seeing his untidy clothes, they guessed he had probably just won a warehouse.
Could he have found some treasure again?
Driven by curiosity, everyone gathered around, asking what good things he had won this time.
“Qin, did you find any treasure again today?”
“Of course, why else would he come to the Auction House if he didn't have any treasure?”
“This kid is really amazing. It hasn't been long, and he's already found so many good things.”
“As expected of the Lucky Star of the East, his luck is just that good!”
...They were incredibly envious of Qin Yun; despite working themselves to the bone in Warehouse Auctions for so long, they hadn't gained as much as this kid had in a few months.
The rest of the people, not knowing what was going on, also gathered around to see the excitement.
Hearing the insiders' words, some looked at Qin Yun in disbelief.
This kid is too terrifying; Warehouse Auctions are mostly about earning hard-earned money, so how could this person be so skilled and obtain so many treasures?
Qin Yun gave Julia a look, and she excitedly took out the silver coins and placed them on the counter.
Tom was stunned to see so many silver coins; what kind of high-quality warehouse had Qin Yun won?
Putting on white gloves, he picked one up and examined it closely.
Seemingly a bit uncertain, Tom took out a magnifying glass and looked for another half minute before putting down the silver coin.
Spreading out the silver coins on the counter, he found they were all the same, and a look of joy appeared on his face.
“Congratulations. Looking at the style, these silver coins are from Maple Leaf Country. I've examined them carefully, and they don't look like modern forgeries.”
“However, I'm not an Expert in currency and can't determine their value. If you want to sell them here, I'll have an Expert in this field appraise them.”
The people around looked at Qin Yun with envy.
Although Tom didn't explicitly state the value of these silver coins, he implied that they might be worth a lot.
As expected of the miraculous Eastern Kid, both his luck and strength are remarkable.
While everyone speculated on the value of the silver coins, they also wanted to know how Qin Yun would handle them.
From the green color the silver coins had shown earlier, they had some value but weren't at a precious level.
He didn't have many channels, so the silver coins were perfect for selling at the Auction House.
“Then let's find a relevant Expert to appraise them.”
Hearing Qin Yun's words, Tom excitedly shouted toward the office.
“Jack, we've got work! Come out and appraise some silver coins.”
If Qin Yun sold them at the Auction House, he could earn a commission, so he was very excited.
A lean, energetic man in his sixties with salt-and-pepper hair walked out of the office.
Coming to the counter, Jack picked up a silver coin, looked at it for about ten seconds, and then put it down.
“This is currency issued by Maple Leaf Country in 1979. It's not that old and there's a large surviving quantity. It has some collectible value, but the price isn't great.”
“This type of silver coin has a silver content as high as 99.99%. If they're real, this many should sell for at least eight thousand.”
“Although the possibility of forgery is low, I still need to use instruments to verify the silver content and the year of the coins.”
Hearing the Expert's words, everyone felt a slight sense of disappointment.
They thought they were witnessing a miracle and that they were precious coins.
But then they were relieved; eight thousand wasn't a small amount either, especially since it was obtained from a Warehouse Auction. Qin had made a big profit.
“That explains it. If they were extremely valuable, who would forget them in a warehouse?”
“Eight thousand is already good. Don't forget this was gotten from a Warehouse Auction; Qin has already hit the jackpot.”
“Right, how great would it be if I could buy a warehouse like that.”
...Everyone looked at Qin Yun with envy, waiting for Jack's appraisal results.
Julia was secretly happy for Qin Yun's gains and scoffed at the delusions of the people around them.
Not to mention whether they had the eye to buy that warehouse.
Even if they bought the warehouse, the silver coins were hidden in bricks; without enough skill and luck, it would have been impossible to find them.
Then these silver coins would likely have ended up in a junkyard, never to see the light of day.
Thinking of this, she gave Qin Yun an unreadable look.
Hank was also happy for Qin Yun, but he noticed a hint of admiration in his daughter's eyes as she looked at him.
He felt a bit strange; he had been worried about his daughter's personal life before, but now that he saw her falling for Qin Yun, he felt a bit of loss, as if he had lost something precious.
Qin Yun had long anticipated the results and maintained a calm expression.
While the silver coins were being appraised, he took the box of basketball star collector's cards out of his bag.
“There's also a box of star cards. Take a look at them while you're at it.”
He didn't say he would sell them to the Auction House; items like these only fetch a good price when sold to specialized collectors.
Tom didn't expect Qin Yun to have more gains; when he opened the box and saw they were basketball star collector's cards, he was startled.
Seeing the fine packaging, he felt they were worth a lot of money.
When he saw the complete set of collector's cards for Iverson, Nash, Jermaine O'Neal, and Kobe, a huge wave of shock surged in his heart.
“Oh my God, how is this possible? These are collector's cards from the golden generation!”
Basketball is very popular in the US, and when they heard they were collector's cards from the golden generation, those in the know cried out.
“Heavens, are they really collector's cards from the golden generation draft?”
“Holy crap, is this for real? Am I dreaming?”
“My God, how could such rare collector's cards appear in a complete set!”
“Sell them to me! You must sell them to me!”
