65: Gifts to get out of prison
Qin Yun had great confidence in Julia.
Her words had secured favorable conditions for the two of them, and Qin Yun was now completely at ease regarding the future trend of events.
Julia was, after all, a top student from Bolton University; a case as simple and clear as this would surely be handled with ease.
The ill-intentioned Councilman would certainly receive a corresponding lesson.
The two were only being held under supervision; they still had their phones and were free to contact the outside world.
To pressure the Councilman and the authorities, Qin Yun contacted several Collectors he was on good terms with.
All that was left to do was wait patiently.
“Someone once said that to achieve great things, one must go to prison. I suppose this trip fulfills the first condition for becoming a big shot.”
Feeling secure, Qin Yun started joking with Julia.
Hearing Qin Yun's words, Julia was a bit surprised, thinking he might be worried.
Turning to see the faint smile on Qin Yun's face, she realized he was just trying to cheer her up.
Julia was deeply touched that Qin Yun would have such thoughts for her.
“Don't you worry, there won't be any accidents during this trip to court!”
“I've always believed you'll achieve great things. Sooner or later, you'll become a big shot in the treasure hunting world! No, you won't be limited to treasure hunting; you'll make a name for yourself in other areas too, becoming a powerful figure of great influence in America!”
Julia looked into Qin Yun's eyes with full confidence, very satisfied with her initial choice to follow him.
She had personally witnessed Qin Yun accomplish so many major things in such a short period.
He was so talented and capable; heaven would not let such a person down!
Qin Yun smiled somewhat awkwardly.
He hadn't expected Julia to have so much faith in him!
Even with his Profound Vision Treasure Eye, he hadn't thought that far ahead, yet Julia was absolutely certain.
Qin Yun made up his mind not to let down the trust Julia had in him!
The call for freedom is very high in America, and incidents where someone is killed in self-defense after breaking in with a gun receive even higher attention.
Because guns are so prevalent in America, such actions are about protecting one's own safety.
No one wants to be killed for no reason while sleeping peacefully at home.
Even though it was early morning, the incident quickly sparked a significant craze online.
Many people of status called the Wilmington authorities directly.
Wilmington was just a port city and couldn't resist that kind of pressure at all.
Although that Councilman had great power locally, he was unable to resist when faced with other American big shots and his direct superiors.
Less than an hour after Qin Yun and Julia were detained, the Councilman appeared in the room where Qin Yun was being held.
“I'm sorry. We wanted to pursue the truth, but our actions were a bit hasty, causing you to suffer some grievances.”
“I've already ascertained the truth. This matter has nothing to do with you; the two of you may leave.”
The Councilman was very reluctant to let them go, but he couldn't withstand such immense pressure.
Thinking about how a supreme treasure like the nine dragons precious sword was now beyond his reach, his hatred for this kid Qin Yun grew even deeper.
Qin Yun saw the hatred in the Councilman's eyes and knew that letting them leave was not this man's original intention.
It was Julia's strategy that had worked; the Councilman had no choice but to let them go.
“I think the environment here is quite nice. My hotel room is a crime scene, so I think I'll wait until tomorrow to leave!”
How could things be so simple? This Councilman had moved against them without cause, and now that he couldn't handle the pressure, he wanted to act as if nothing had happened.
Qin Yun would never indulge such a beast in human clothing. If this Councilman didn't pay a price, he wouldn't leave.
The Councilman had long anticipated this kind of arrogant and uncooperative behavior from Qin Yun.
His expression turned cold as he put on the air of a leader.
“Detaining you was the result of a discussion between the police and the authorities; it's a necessary part of the process. If you're dissatisfied, you can go out and complain to my superiors!”
“However, your behavior of resisting law enforcement might actually be a violation of the law. I now have reason to lock you in prison!”
He was just a young man from China; the Councilman didn't take someone like him to heart at all.
Qin Yun had merely made a small fortune in a Warehouse Auction.
He understood nothing about America and had no relevant connections; such a person was for him to manipulate as he pleased.
Julia understood Qin Yun's attitude from his words.
Seeing the Councilman start using official jargon and even threatening Qin Yun, she became directly enraged.
“Put us in prison? Try it if you have the guts!”
“You're already under this much pressure just for detaining us at the court. If you lock us in prison, I'm afraid you won't be able to keep your position!”
“I am a lawyer from Bolton University. In this setting, you are legally responsible for every word you say.”
“We can leave, but you must show a proper attitude. Otherwise, if you want to arrest us, you lock us up, and if you want us to leave, we leave—how can things in this world be so simple!”
After Julia finished speaking, she stared at the Councilman with a serious expression.
She hadn't really wanted to make things too difficult for the local officials before, but this Councilman's actions were too excessive and crude.
As a legal professional who had caught this official parasite's weakness, she certainly wasn't going to be polite.
The Councilman was dumbfounded, looking at Julia and Qin Yun with vacant eyes.
His mind was racing, considering how best to handle this matter.
Isn't Qin Yun just a Chinese person? Why does he know so many big shots and have this kind of lawyer who knows the law by his side?
It seemed that trying to gloss over this matter was going to be impossible.
If this kind of thing were exposed, it would pose a certain threat to his position as a Councilman.
Although the two of them couldn't do anything to him right now...
During the next election, the other side would only need to use this incident to attack him.
The possibility of his re-election would be greatly reduced.
Thinking of such a terrifying consequence, the Councilman's face softened considerably as he spoke to Qin Yun in an equal tone.
“Detention at the court is a normal procedure. Even though I'm a Councilman, I can't help it; it's impossible to directly bypass the law.”
“My previous attitude was indeed a bit poor. I have recognized my mistake and now sincerely apologize to you.”
After the Councilman gave a deep bow, he stated his plan.
“Look, I'm a member of a local three-star Michelin restaurant. How about I treat you to a meal to calm your nerves and book a presidential suite for you?”
“This is my fault, so please, you must agree!”
The Councilman looked at Qin Yun and Julia with a sincere gaze.
He waited to see what their reaction would be.
Qin Yun wasn't interested in the Councilman's proposal at all.
A three-star Michelin restaurant? A presidential suite?
He had plenty of money now and didn't care about luxury; he didn't care about these aristocratic pretensions at all!
Julia was very skilled at this sort of thing. He shook his head slightly and didn't speak.
Seeing Qin Yun shake his head, Julia immediately knew his thoughts.
Qin Yun wasn't satisfied with the conditions the Councilman offered and was leaving the matter to her to handle.
“We don't care about three-star Michelin restaurants or presidential suites. What we need is your sincere apology!”
“As long as you can obtain Qin Yun's forgiveness, this matter will be considered settled, and we can leave now!”
Julia knew that for politicians like this, getting them to admit they were wrong was harder than anything.
Admitting a mistake meant they had done something wrong before.
For a politician focused on moving up, this was a very serious matter as it proved their lack of ability and that they weren't suited for their current position.
Sure enough, after hearing Julia's words, the Councilman stood frozen in place for a long time.
“I was wrong. It was I who abused my power to detain you.”
“I will certainly act honestly in the future and will no longer do anything that violates the law!”
Seeing Julia use her phone to record what he said, the Councilman's face changed drastically, but thinking of the consequences already caused, he still finished speaking.
Qin Yun saw Julia gesture to him and knew this was the limit of what could be achieved.
He disdained speaking with such a hypocritical politician and walked straight outside.
As the three of them walked out of the court's main gates, they actually ran into that fat underworld boss.
