100: Chapter 100 Armament System
Wang Xuedong and Xue Zhikai examined the bodies of Fox Shadow and the others, then shook their heads at Battalion Commander Wang. After checking their weapons and equipment, Battalion Commander Wang spoke.
"There should be two more snipers."
As soon as he finished speaking, intense gunfire erupted from deep within the woods. Battalion Commander Wang immediately stood up and looked in that direction.
"It should be Xu Hu, Li Feng, and the others closing in."
"Battalion Commander Wang, we'll head over first. We'll leave things here to you."
"Alright, stay safe."
Wang Xuedong and Xue Zhikai nodded to Battalion Commander Wang and led their respective team members toward the dense sound of gunfire.
Big Guy and the other were indeed pinned down. Two groups had arrived—one directly in front and one on the flank—pinning them firmly behind a small mound. It was indeed the units of Xu Hu and Li Feng.
"Xiao Ge Zi, it looks like the Huaxia soldiers want to wipe us out completely."
Big Guy poked his head out to fire a shot before immediately ducking back down. The spot he was just in was instantly covered by suppressive fire, bullets kicking up clouds of dirt and sand.
Xiao Ge Zi raised his gun and fired a burst. After retreating, he swapped magazines and looked around.
"I'll cover you. Retreat to the west. That's the only direction where no enemies have appeared yet."
Xiao Ge Zi wanted to move up again after speaking, but Big Guy pulled him back forcefully.
"You're not Fox Shadow, so cut that out. Let's go together. If we can get out, we get out. If we can't, we'll keep each other company in the afterlife."
Xiao Ge Zi didn't speak. He remained silent for a moment and then nodded. He was usually a man of few words, and he had already spoken enough today.
After speaking, the two moved westward along the slope. At this moment, they no longer had the will to resist. They only fired randomly for a while to suppress the speed of Xu Hu and the others' advance, looking for an opportunity to retreat into the woods to the west.
When Wang Xuedong and his team moved up, they arrived just as Xu Hu and his men were approaching the small mound. Fortunately, both sides held their fire, narrowly avoiding friendly fire.
"Where are they?"
Xu Hu raised his sniper rifle and looked toward the west.
"Over here. These two are quite fast; they've already run this far."
"Xiao Jie, quick! Get to high ground and cut off their retreat. If possible, kill them directly. I'm tired of playing hide-and-seek with them."
"Yes, sir!"
Five team members armed with Electromagnetic Pulse Rifles quickly seized advantageous positions. They raised their rifles, took a brief aim, and fired simultaneously. The distinct, rapid firing sound of the Electromagnetic Pulse Rifles rang out.
Xu Hu watched the two fleeing figures through his sniper scope. He considered firing but gave up after calculating the distance; it was already beyond his range. Then, Wang Xuedong's teammates beside him opened fire. After a volley of shots, the two figures in sight both collapsed to the ground. It was unclear whether they had been hit or if the dense hail of bullets had simply blocked their path forward.
Xu Hu smiled and waved his hand forward. The men of the Special Operations Brigade charged forward en masse, like a pack of hungry tigers pouncing on their prey.
"Right, just like that. You guys stay here and keep up the precision fire to pin them down. We're going over to finish the job."
Wang Xuedong lowered his sniper rifle and spoke casually.
Xu Hu stopped charging forward as well, letting Li Feng and the others take the kills. He walked quickly to Wang Xuedong and stared at the Electromagnetic Kinetic Sniper Rifle in his hands.
"Brother, the rifles your teammates have are already eye-opening, but yours looks even more impressive. I noticed it earlier—it doesn't even have a barrel. What kind of gun is this?"
"Haha, Xu Hu, you have no idea. This sniper rifle really opened my eyes today. That business van they were in? One shot and it was just gone."
Battalion Commander Wang rushed over, speaking before he could even catch his breath.
"I say..."
"Oh, and that drone they launched earlier too—one shot blew it to smithereens. Can you believe it? It's more devastating than a missile! Haha."
Battalion Commander Wang excitedly did the boasting that Wang Xuedong should have done. Wang Xuedong tried to interject several times but couldn't get a word in, looking away in frustration.
While they were talking, Wang Xuedong's teammates stopped firing.
"Captain, we've caught them."
A team member ran over to report. Hearing this, Wang Xuedong perked up again and led his team toward the direction where Big Guy had fled. Battalion Commander Wang and Xu Hu followed closely behind.
The firepower of five Electromagnetic Pulse Rifles was no joke. Not a single small tree around Big Guy remained intact; many trees as thick as a bowl had been snapped in half. The ground was a mess. Dozens of special operations soldiers held their rifles, their eyes sharp and their morale high.
Wang Xuedong squeezed through and found a tall mercenary whose body had been riddled with holes. An M24 Sniper Rifle lay not far from him. Another smaller man was still groaning; he had been shot several times and was bleeding, but he seemed to be alive.
"Battalion Commander Wang, get the medical team up here quickly. There seems to be a survivor. Didn't Commander Jiang want a live captive? We might be able to save him."
Battalion Commander Wang nodded repeatedly and ran to the side to call the medical team.
"Alright, withdraw!"
"Yes, sir!"
A few minutes later,
After Wang Xuedong and Xue Zhikai greeted Xu Hu and the others, they led their respective teams back to the base. The remaining cleanup work was naturally left to the base's Special Operations Brigade.
After Wang Xuedong and the others returned to the base to report some details to Commander Jiang, they led their teams back to their original units. They didn't stay long, as they had only come temporarily to help out.
Inside the cabin of the "fat girl."
"Captain Wang, where are you going once we get off the plane?"
Xue Zhikai looked at Wang Xuedong, who was resting with his eyes closed.
"I have to go to the Ordnance Research Institute to return this sniper rifle. Actually, what Division Commander Liao said in the helicopter wasn't a lie. This gun was just developed by Academician Chu Ge, and it's the only one in the country. It's extremely precious. Before we left, our brigade commander said that while the person might not return, the gun must come back. You can imagine how much weight that sentence carries."
"Yeah, it deserves such weight!"
"Hmm? Haha, go on, get lost. I'm going to take a nap."
Xue Zhikai took a deep look at the black backpack next to Wang Xuedong, then turned his head and closed his eyes as well.
...
While Wang Xuedong and the others were bravely killing the enemy, Chu Ge was writing furiously in the Research Institute.
When the blueprints for the Aerospace Aircraft Carrier first came out, he had skimmed through them. Its Armament System hadn't caught his attention. In his mind, the Armament System ranked after the engine system, command and control system, and energy system—it was almost secondary.
After all, the pinnacle of Armament Systems would be on the later heavy cruisers.
But today, as Chu Ge looked closely at the Armament System in the blueprints, damn, although there weren't many types, the number of gun emplacements was staggering.
Chu Ge started from the simple and moved to the complex, first checking the data on the Electromagnetic Railguns.
First was the ship-wide layout of the Electromagnetic Railguns. The main batteries consisted of four triple-mounted 500mm Pulse Railguns, arranged in a two-front, two-rear configuration. One twin-mounted 420mm Electromagnetic Gun was located on the belly of the Aerospace Aircraft Carrier, and four twin-mounted 320mm Electromagnetic Guns were located on the sides of the aerospace carrier, two on each side.
The secondary batteries consisted of twelve 205mm Electromagnetic Railgun Rapid-fire Guns.
