106: Chapter 106 Simulation Data
The meeting ended; although it hadn't lasted long, its content was heartening.
Even though Academician Chen had already told everyone to return to their respective posts, many people still gathered in the venue to discuss the announcements, especially the news regarding the selection of scientific research personnel, which immediately became a hot topic for all the experts at the Research Institute.
“Little Chu, are you busy? If not, how about coming to my place for a bit?”
Seeing that everyone's enthusiasm remained high, Academician Chen stopped being so rigid about management and turned to speak to Chu Ge, who was packing up his materials.
“Sure, Old Chen, I'm not busy today, except for heading over to Li Gang's group in a while to hand over some new work plans.”
“Good.”
After speaking, Academician Chen walked out first. Hearing the discussions about the meeting's content echoing in the hallway from time to time, a smile appeared on his face; it seemed everyone's motivation was very high.
Chu Ge followed Academician Chen, and the two of them—one old and one young—walked along a concrete path lined with lush greenery on both sides.
“Little Chu, have you thought about the naming issue for the aerospace carrier I mentioned two days ago? The top leaders are still waiting; this name needs to be finalized today.”
Chu Ge was currently looking at the scenery. Having not been out for a few days, he felt like summer was already approaching. Many northern cities were like this, with very short springs; today might feel quite cold, but tomorrow it could transition into summer in a second.
“Old Chen, I've thought of a few, but I don't know if they're any good.”
After Chu Ge finished speaking, he flipped through the folder in his hand, found the page where he had specially handwritten several primary and alternative names, pulled it out, and handed it to Academician Chen.
“Hmm, Little Chu, your handwriting is quite good.”
The two had already entered Academician Chen's office by now. Old Chen praised him while shaking the paper.
Hearing Academician Chen's praise, Chu Ge felt a bit embarrassed.
However, Chu Ge's handwriting was indeed decent; back in school, his handwriting was often praised by Yu Le.
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses; when Yu Le praised him, she never forgot to roast Chu Ge's English. His English writing wasn't good—it was very awkward and clearly followed a Chinese style of writing.
Chu Ge had specifically practiced for this, but there was no improvement, so after a while, he stopped dwelling on it.
With that time, he might as well study Chinese calligraphy instead.
Old Chen looked at it very seriously. It was unclear whether he was studying Chu Ge's handwriting or thinking about the meaning behind each name, so Chu Ge explained his reasons to the elder from the side.
Academician Chen nodded repeatedly after hearing them.
“Little Chu, you really understand China's national conditions, haha! I think what you said makes a lot of sense, and personally, I very much agree. However, the final decision still rests with the higher-ups. I'll submit it in a moment.”
“The top leaders still value your opinion very much; otherwise, they wouldn't have had me rush you like this.”
After Academician Chen finished speaking, he gave Chu Ge a meaningful look.
Chu Ge didn't mind; he was only responsible for seriously completing the tasks assigned by the leaders. As for the rest, he'd leave it to fate.
At this moment, he was very seriously studying an apple, as if the final naming of the aerospace carrier no longer had anything to do with him.
“Old Chen, I just realized you have quite a few varieties of apples here.”
Chu Ge looked while eating; he was actually studying the types of apples in the fruit bowl.
Old Chen didn't reply but shook his head with a smile. These were apples he had specifically asked someone to buy.
Chu Ge lingered in Academician Chen's office for a long time, and when he finally left, he didn't forget to swipe two apples from Old Chen.
After Chu Ge left, Old Chen immediately submitted Chu Ge's names for the aerospace carrier. According to their previous plan, the name had to be finalized before midnight, after which it would appear in tomorrow's news releases to be known by the whole of China and even the world.
After Academician Chen finished the submission, he turned to look at the sky outside. He hoped that name would be adopted because, from that name, he seemed to feel Chu Ge's strong desire to soar through the nine heavens.
Chu Ge turned and arrived at the experimental base of Li Gang's research group. Li Gang now had over 100 members under him; with more personnel, his territory had naturally expanded.
The experimental base was three stories high. The ground floor was an experimental workshop. Walking in, Chu Ge felt as if he had entered an aircraft assembly plant; the workshop was very spacious, especially the ceiling height—in Chu Ge's memory, only aircraft assembly plants had such high ceiling designs.
Engineers were currently debugging various equipment and semi-finished components, a scene of busy activity.
The second floor was the base's office area, data computing center, and a temporary security warehouse.
Chu Ge hadn't been to the third floor; he guessed it was temporary dormitories or something.
When Chu Ge found Li Gang, he was at the computing center simulating the blast shockwave threshold for individual soldier armor and performing armor-piercing shell penetration simulation experiments.
Li Gang had a smile on his face and looked full of excitement.
“What kind of medicine did you take?”
Chu Ge's sudden remark startled the excited Li Gang.
“Academician Chu, you've come at just the right time. Look at the data we've simulated. I think this set of individual armor could even be used on tanks; the data is simply way more impressive than current composite armor.”
“And it's so light; it's simply perfect.”
“You simulated HEAT shells and HESH shells, but what about the data for mainstream APFSDS?”
Chu Ge took the mouse and asked seriously after clicking through several data files.
“We didn't do that. We only conducted general explosive damage data and large-caliber firearm data. The one you mentioned wouldn't usually be used, right? Those rod-style penetrators are fired by large armored equipment or anti-tank missiles. Using them against an individual soldier? That's a bit exaggerated.”
Li Gang looked innocent.
“Since ancient times, the spear and the shield have developed in a spiral. When you have a sharp spear, the shield will naturally be strengthened. Likewise, now that you have a new shield, you should use the sharpest spear to test it.”
“Don't you agree? And as you said just now, this armor technology can also be applied to other fields, such as tank armor. So where is the simulation data? Even if you just do it and archive it, the military can directly call upon it when they need it later. Why not do it?”
Chu Ge smilingly explained his thoughts to Li Gang. Currently, some departments often had this situation where they were only responsible for their own small patch of research and ignored everything else.
This was actually a huge waste, resulting in some data being generated over and over again, wasting time and resources.
Of course, with Li Gang, Chu Ge didn't mean to complain; perhaps the workload was too heavy, and there was simply no time to do extra things.
Chu Ge patted Li Gang's shoulder and continued looking at the data reports.
“Specific to our individual armor system, the most important thing is to pay attention to its metallic ductility.”
“What do you mean?”
Li Gang didn't understand Chu Ge's meaning.
“Whether it's a pointed armor-piercing shell or a blunt-headed shell, the torque generated when hitting the target armor at a certain angle of incidence is different. This creates a form of destruction known as shattering penetration, which specifically targets high-strength armor like ours.”
