88: Chapter 88 The "Person" in the Dream
When Chu Ge walked into the Research Institute cafeteria, the staff were cleaning up.
"Master Liu, is there any food left? I, uh, came late."
Chu Ge said, scratching his head a bit sheepishly.
Master Liu put the rag aside and was just about to offer a few criticisms, but upon seeing it was Chu Ge, he first paused, then kept his face stern.
"Academician Chu, you haven't come to eat all day, have you? Today, old Liu here is going to pull rank a bit. This is no way to eat; it's easy to ruin your health. If your health is ruined, how can you contribute to this country? Right? Let this be the last time. You go sit over there and wait a moment, I'll be right back."
Master Liu criticized Chu Ge thoroughly, but after the criticism, he didn't forget to give Chu Ge a hearty smile before turning and walking towards the kitchen.
Chu Ge understood Master Liu's good intentions, nodded repeatedly, then found a seat and sat down, waiting for Master Liu while recalling the dream from just now.
"Many things are blurry, yet many details are very clear. I haven't watched any similar sci-fi blockbusters recently, so why would I have such a strange dream?"
Chu Ge automatically ignored the earlier parts of the plot and began to recall some of the later things.
"It's so strange. I can even clearly remember the general proportions of that spaceship wreckage now. Judging by the huge engine wreckage on the ground, the spaceship in my dream is at least much larger than the aerospace carrier I'm planning to build."
"And those people, let's call them humans for now. They do have an appearance extremely similar to humans: blue eyes, fair skin—this is typical Western human genetics. However, the overall feeling of their facial features is more like the facial structure of people from Asia. Most importantly!"
Chu Ge opened his eyes wide. He had just recalled the final scene of the dream. He felt that although he hadn't seen the specific appearance of any one person clearly, he had remembered their distinct characteristics from that one glance before falling.
"Most importantly, their hair seems to be white. And it shouldn't be the white of an old person; it should be, it should be a trait or some kind of genetic inheritance? Where are these people from? Does such a human race exist on Earth?"
Chu Ge muttered softly to himself.
"What white? But, Academician Chu, I see your skin seems to be much whiter than before."
Master Liu was carrying two plates, each with a large steamed bun on top. He placed the two dishes down carefully while talking to Chu Ge.
"Haha, white what? That's because I don't see much sunlight, staying indoors every day, keeping it covered."
After Chu Ge finished speaking, a flash of inspiration struck his mind.
"Hmm? No, that kind of white is a bit different from yours. Yours is a healthy white. Academician Chu, I reheated the dishes for you—one meat, one vegetable. See if it's enough?"
Master Liu put down the food and asked the dazed Chu Ge.
"Oh, it's enough, Master Liu. I've really troubled you. Have you eaten? Would you like to join me?"
"Haha, I've already eaten. I still have to clean up over there. You go ahead and eat. If it's not enough, just tell me."
"Okay."
Chu Ge said, taking a big bite of the steamed bun. Master Liu looked at him, nodded with satisfaction, and turned to leave.
"Not seeing sunlight... perhaps it's not a matter of genetics, but the reason for not seeing sunlight all year round?"
Chu Ge started recalling again, but after thinking for a long time, there didn't seem to be more details for him to deduce, so he simply stopped worrying about it and focused on filling his stomach.
It was already past nine o'clock in the evening when Chu Ge returned to his dormitory. After coming out of the cafeteria, he had uncharacteristically run a few laps around the Research Institute.
"It seems this Gene Medicine is still somewhat useful. At least running isn't as strenuous as before. I've been running for so long and didn't even feel tired."
Chu Ge sat at his desk, turned on the desk lamp, and just as he was about to start working, his vision suddenly went dark, and a wave of dizziness washed over him. He steadied himself on the table and shook his head vigorously.
A moment later, the dizziness was gone, replaced by waves of sleepiness.
"No way, I just slept for 24 hours, and I'm sleepy again? System Big Brother, your Gene Medicine has quite the side effect, doesn't it?"
[There are no side effects. It is only possible that the host's body genetics are too simple, and the Gene Medicine ratio is biased, leading to the transformation process...]
"Say something I can understand."
[The host's body still has residual Gene Medicine, which requires rest.]
"That's all you had to say."
Chu Ge obediently went to wash up and then lay quietly on the bed. Since he couldn't work, Chu Ge picked up his phone and started chatting with his little princess, Nazira. But before he could chat for long, the waves of sleepiness returned. The phone gradually slipped from his hand, and in an instant, soft snoring sounds began.
The phone screen was still flashing on and off, text messages coming in one after another, and then a call came in, but none of these woke the sleeping Chu Ge.
...
The tropical rainforest in the early morning was already very lively. The sounds of various insects rose and fell, and in the dense forest, under the huge shadows of the canopy, there were vaguely some large animals that hadn't returned to their nests; they also seemed to enjoy the gentle caress of the rising sun.
In the distance, a flock of birds seemed to have been startled by something, chirping as they flew away. The timid animals pricked up their ears, looking around vigilantly. With a single noise, in an instant, these cowards ran off without a trace.
The ones who poked their heads out were exactly Fox Shadow and his group.
"Monkey, according to the time, we should be arriving at the Huaxia border, right?"
Fox Shadow stopped his steps and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"Yes, Boss. About one kilometer ahead is the place where we are supposed to meet with the people from within Huaxia."
"Good. Monkey is responsible for contacting the other party. The rest of you, pay attention to security. From now on, I want you to keep your eyes wide open and your ears pricked up at all times. As soon as you find something wrong, signal immediately!"
Everyone responded one after another, then picked up their respective weapons and looked around vigilantly. Monkey walked to the side, took out a satellite phone from his backpack, and dialed the number.
A few minutes later,
"Boss, contact established. The person is already there."
"Good. When approaching, Black Bear, Monkey, you two come forward with me. Lone Wolf, flank from the side. Big Guy, Xiao Ge Zi, cover the rear and find good positions. Be cautious in everything."
Fox Shadow quickly made the deployment. It wasn't that he didn't trust Joey's arrangements, but it was a habit he had formed over many years—always prepare for the worst.
Deep in the dense forest, beside an inconspicuous small road, a commercial vehicle was parked. A person was sitting in the driver's seat, boredly tapping the steering wheel.
He was the one responsible for the rendezvous, nicknamed Viper.
Viper was staring ahead at the moment,
"Damn it, why haven't these people arrived yet? Wasting my time."
As soon as the words fell, Viper felt a chill at his temple, and a pistol was pressed against his head.
"Viper?"
"Yes. Are you Joey's people?"
Fox Shadow lowered his pistol and didn't call his companions, but instead looked around vigilantly.
"Rest assured, it's just me."
Viper opened the car door and stepped out of the car.
