68: Chapter 68 Cao Bo: His Character

"Oh, I forgot. This is my boyfriend, Chu Ge."

"Hello!"

"Hello!"

Chu Ge and the other person repeated the international etiquette once more.

"There aren't many songs left. It's mostly just some activities and awards from the organizers. If you don't like it, shall we head out?"

Dilireba Nazha whispered into Chu Ge's ear. She was always very considerate of him now. Chu Ge paused for a moment.

"Sure. Anyway, you've finished your performance, and they don't sing as well as you do!"

"Get out of here! I know exactly how much I'm worth."

"Haha."

After Chu Ge and Nazha greeted the girl next to them, they slowly moved toward the side aisle.

Not far away, several pairs of eyes stared at the slowly moving duo. They glanced at each other, and just as they were about to step forward, they felt a sudden chill at their waists.

"Come with us quietly, or this thing really will go off."

The men looked down to see dark handguns appearing and disappearing under the flickering lights of the venue.

Baldy Jie instantly broke into a cold sweat. Damn it, this scene felt all too familiar.

Cao Bo was a bit dazed right now. He watched as Chu Ge and Nazha gradually walked away, while his own men stood there motionless, as if a freezing spell had been cast on them.

Since everyone was wearing the same black clothes, Cao Bo had assumed Captain Gong and his men were also thugs hired by Baldy Jie.

Whoosh—

Just as his backside left his seat, his body suddenly felt heavy. A pair of large hands, like millstones, forced him back down into his seat.

"Cao Bo, current General Manager of the Shanghai Cao Group. Your grandfather is Cao Changqing, right? Your father is Cao Ruiliang. You live in the Xiangdu Villa in Lidu Jingcheng Garden, Yucheng District, Shanghai. You have three brothers and cousins, all of whom hold executive positions in the Cao Group, correct?"

"..."

Cao Bo's mind went blank. He didn't even hear clearly what the other person said after that because he was in shock—the other party had investigated him down to the last detail.

After a brief daze, Cao Bo regained some of his senses and looked up at the unfamiliar burly man before him.

"Who are you? That kid's people? Fine, you dare touch me in Shanghai? Don't you know who..."

"No need to ask around. We've already investigated everything about you thoroughly, including all the Cao family's subsidiaries, all involved industries, and even your connections in Shanghai and throughout China. Do you need me to lay it all out?"

Cao Bo's legs began to tremble.

"Still talking nonsense? Come with us!"

"Where to? I won't! I want to see what you can do to me... Ah!!!"

Before Cao Bo could finish his sentence, a sudden sharp pain shot through his arm, and then he could no longer feel its existence.

"No need to look, I've dislocated it. Any more questions? If you do, I don't mind removing something else!"

...

Cao Bo was truly terrified. He looked into the man's eyes; they were cold and fierce. He knew that if he persisted, he might actually be torn limb from limb.

When Cao Bo and Baldy Jie were brought together, Cao Bo realized that these were two different groups. Baldy Jie and his crew were all dejected and dispirited, lacking any of their previous arrogance.

Cao Bo's heart sank.

The two groups merged and walked toward the outskirts of the music festival in a grand procession. The young people nearby were still enthusiastic, not giving Cao Bo and the others a single glance.

As the group reached the outer plaza, several delinquent youths leaning against cars and smoking saw Cao Bo and hurriedly came over, bowing and scraping.

Before Cao Bo could even signal them, he suddenly noticed several soldiers rushing up from behind, and he immediately stood rooted to the spot.

"Brother Bo, hey, hey... who the—"

The thugs were about to start swearing, but when they turned and saw the military uniforms, they swallowed their words.

"You've come at the right time! I have a situation to report! These people are trying to kidnap me, I—"

Cao Bo clearly still hadn't figured out the situation.

"Captain!"

The soldiers saluted the person behind Cao Bo. At this, Cao Bo was dazed again; what was going on?

"Cao Bo, I forgot to introduce myself just now. I am Shao Jie, Captain of the Special Operations Brigade of the Shanghai Garrison District."

"Sha—Captain Shao, but I still don't understand..."

"You will understand. Leave Cao Bo here. Put the rest in the vehicles and take them back to headquarters to await processing!"

"Yes!"

After Captain Shao gave the order, he looked anxiously toward the park exit.

Academician Chu hadn't come out yet. He was going to meet his idol today. To be honest, even as a man nearly forty, he was actually feeling nervous. Shao Jie could hardly believe it himself.

A crowd of onlookers gradually gathered nearby. They saw special police and even military police. Everyone was curious, whispering and discussing among themselves.

"What happened? There are many people at the music festival, so it's understandable for the police to maintain order, but why are the military here too?"

"I don't know. Look, there are many soldiers on the outskirts over there. Are those real weapons in their hands? This is quite an eye-opener."

"Could it be that many foreign guests came to the music festival? But that wouldn't warrant deploying the military. I see quite a few soldiers on this whole street, and they don't look like ordinary soldiers. They look like the special forces you see on TV, with all that heavy gear."

"Tsk tsk, do you think they'll arrest me if I take a photo?"

"Forget it! Holy crap, the police are coming!"

This scene played out among many groups of people, but before they could see enough, they were ushered away by groups of police officers.

The crowd left reluctantly, looking back with every step...

Nearby, Cao Bo's eyes were darting around as he thought about who he should call at this moment.

Shao Jie glanced at Cao Bo. Besides disgust, his eyes faintly revealed a hint of killing intent, which made Cao Bo tremble all over. His mind jolted; he seemed to have understood something...

Chu Ge was unaware of these things. After he and Nazha left the music festival grounds, they strolled slowly through the park.

There were many vendors selling small handicrafts along the road. Dilireba Nazha looked at this and then at that. They even went to a small fried skewer shop and ate dozens of skewers. In short, they were having a great time.

So, it took nearly an hour before they reached the park entrance.

"Academician Chu!"

A sudden shout startled Chu Ge. He turned around to see Captain Gong in plain clothes.

"Oh, Captain Gong. What time is it? Is it time to return to Yanjing?"

"There's still some time. A comrade from Shanghai is up ahead and wants to pay his respects to you. Oh, and there's someone you might know. Do you want to go take a look?"

"Sure. Someone I know? I don't have any acquaintances in Shanghai."

Chu Ge looked at Dilireba Nazha in confusion, but she just shook her head.

At that moment, a soldier came running from a distance.

"Colonel Chu, hello! Shao Jie, Captain of the Special Operations Brigade of the Shanghai Garrison District, salutes you!"

"Hello!"

Chu Ge returned the salute and then stepped forward to shake Captain Shao's hand.

"I've caused you trouble. To be honest, I feel quite bad about it."

"Not at all! This kind of trouble is something others would probably scramble to have, haha!"

"Hahaha!"

"By the way, that Cao Bo is up ahead. Do you want to go see him?"

"Who is Cao Bo?"

Chu Ge asked Captain Gong as they walked. Chu Ge didn't know him, but Dilireba Nazha did. She just couldn't figure out what Cao Bo was doing here.

She stood there thinking for a while, shook her head, and hurried to catch up.

Sometimes it's just like that—don't take yourself too seriously. Perhaps in the hearts of others, you aren't worth a second glance at all!
