66: Chapter 66 Trip to Shanghai
The next day, after handing over the relevant data for the Laser Grenade to Li Gang, Chu Ge got into the jeep heading to the military airport.
Due to the time spent handing over to Li Gang, Chu Ge's convoy hit the morning rush hour in Yanjing, where the roads were bustling and heavily congested.
Chu Ge's convoy was particularly conspicuous in the traffic, drawing curious and surprised looks from surrounding drivers, while the bolder ones were frantically and secretly taking photos with their phones.
The windows of the military jeep were bulletproof and had undergone special treatment; Chu Ge knew that from the outside, nothing could be seen.
Captain Gong's sharp gaze was constantly scanning the surroundings; for professionals like them, this had become an occupational habit.
Fortunately, with traffic police directing traffic ahead and everyone actively yielding, the convoy, after crawling for tens of minutes, wound its way onto the highway and quickly arrived at the military airport without much delay.
Chu Ge boarded the YJ-20 that had already taxied out of the runway. Soon, the fat girl's body lunged forward, and the plane pulled up sharply, lifting off the ground and soaring straight into the sky.
In less than two hours, the fat girl landed steadily in the Magic City.
Chu Ge walked off the plane and took a deep breath.
After returning to the Research Institute following the New Year, Chu Ge had either stayed at the Research Institute or occasionally visited other military industrial units or bases; he had basically not stepped into this noisy social life again. Now, sitting in the car looking at the towering skyscrapers and rows of CBD buildings by the roadside, he felt a bit dazed.
He had once been one of these people, and he had done a terrible job of it. Now, it felt like all of this was truly very far away from him...
Following the location sent to Chu Ge by Dilireba Nazha, the convoy quickly arrived at the destination. After entering the Magic City, Chu Ge's party switched to civilian vehicles.
Captain Gong and his team did the same, taking off their military uniforms and changing into their regular clothes.
After the convoy stopped, Captain Gong came over, opened Chu Ge's car door, and sat in.
"Academician Chu, this is a tracking device; I will clip it inside your clothes."
Chu Ge looked at Captain Gong, who was dressed in a suit.
"Captain Gong, you all are becoming increasingly professional; you wouldn't even need special makeup to film a movie, haha."
"Entering society is still very different from our military. Take these clothes, for instance; if we were still in military uniforms, it would cause unnecessary commotion."
"Oh, right, Academician Chu, the Magic City military and local SWAT teams have already moved into the concert venue in advance, so you don't need to worry about safety."
While installing the tracking device, Captain Gong briefly explained the arrangements on his side to Chu Ge.
"Fine, it's just you guys being all jittery. If you put me on the street now, I doubt anyone would recognize me."
Chu Ge said, opening the car door. As soon as he stepped out, the doors of the five black sedans behind him opened almost simultaneously. Chu Ge watched as over 20 elite soldiers stepped out, and he found it quite impressive.
Perhaps it was because they were outside the military environment.
When going to Q City, there were actually quite a few security personnel too, but when placed in that environment and compared to now, the feeling was quite different.
Fortunately, the address provided by Dilireba Nazha was likely her private residence, belonging to a high-end villa area in the suburbs. There were very few pedestrians during the day, which prevented a crowd from gathering.
Of course, except for Dilireba Nazha and her manager, Sister Li.
The two of them were stunned for a good while when they saw this scene, probably thinking that it wasn't Chu Ge who had arrived, but some big celebrity from the entertainment industry. This lineup seemed to be the standard configuration for some big shots.
Chu Ge walked over and nudged Dilireba Nazha.
"What's wrong, don't recognize me? Your mouth is open wide enough to fit an apple."
"No, no, I just didn't react in time. I was dazed, thinking some big star had arrived."
Nazha said as she came over and took Chu Ge's arm. Chu Ge nodded at Captain Gong and went inside with Sister Li and the others.
Walking into the villa, Chu Ge took a rough look around. It was simple and elegant, with a bit of a Nordic style. The entire first-floor hall was dominated by white, light gray, and natural wood tones, giving people a very welcoming feeling upon entering.
The furniture, sofas, and the like were not excessively luxurious or extravagant; they followed a simple and practical path. Even the decorative paintings hanging in the hallway were those sketched with just a few strokes. Chu Ge found them simple yet uniquely charming.
Chu Ge walked around. The only thing that stood out in this living room might be the piano placed on the split-level side hall—a Steinway. Its glossy black lacquer finish revealed its graceful and luxurious aura.
Chu Ge vaguely remembered that this thing seemed quite impressive. Dilireba Nazha pulled Chu Ge to sit down, and after Sister Li served a plate of fruit, she tactfully left.
Chu Ge and Nazha, finding their short separation sweeter than a new romance, poured out their longing for each other.
"Oh right, I almost forgot, I prepared clothes for you. I'll go get them; you try them on to see if they fit. If they don't, there should still be time to change them."
"Is it really necessary to go through all that trouble?"
"It is."
Chu Ge thought about it and realized she was right. That place had a so-called red carpet show, and dressing casually would seem a bit impolite, both to the organizers and to Dilireba Nazha, so he just let her fuss over it.
Chu Ge tried on the clothes; they were fine, not too small, just a slim fit. He turned to look at Nazha, who was fiddling with Captain Gong's tracking device.
"What is this thing? Why do you have these messy gadgets on you?"
"Uh, it's nothing, just an electronic device. Oh right, Nazha, what are you wearing tonight?"
Chu Ge didn't know how to explain it, so he quickly changed the subject.
"Won't you know tonight? Hehe."
She was being quite mysterious, but Chu Ge didn't ask further; girls always liked that sort of thing. The two chatted for a while, then found Sister Li to prepare lunch. They planned to just handle it here themselves; after all, they had the ingredients, and going out and coming back would be troublesome.
In the meantime, Chu Ge went out to find Captain Gong and discovered that of the 20-plus people, only four or five remained, with the others presumably having dispersed. That made sense; if they all gathered together, it would be too obvious—it would feel like the saying "there are no three hundred taels of silver buried here" (a sign of trying to hide something but failing).
"Captain Gong, why don't you all come in and have lunch with me? I'll have them prepare a bit more."
"Academician Chu, no need. We have our own ways of handling it. This is discipline; you don't need to worry about us."
Fine, Chu Ge knew he couldn't force them.
After lunch, the entire afternoon, apart from cuddling, Chu Ge sat by as an attentive listener while Nazha practiced a song she was going to sing that night. Chu Ge listened to it a few times and felt it was quite fresh and clean; paired with Nazha's clear, translucent voice, it was actually quite pleasant to hear:
Three years have passed in the blink of an eye, everything in my heart blooms so brightly
Now there are only a few days left in the countdown, the scraps of paper by my feet, I don't have time to pick them up
Like a cocoon about to break through the pressure, after leaving school everyone stays up late on their own
Dark circles in the morning, a bit of drowsiness in class
Day after day, I just want to hold onto the passing years, to say goodbye properly
Regrets and gratitude cannot go back to yesterday, I just want to remember this moment
The light years we walked together, after June, the light years become a memory...
