42: Chapter 42 Pentagon Intelligence

The United States, Pentagon East Asia Intelligence Analysis Division.

John Wilson was pacing back and forth in his office. The monthly intelligence analysis report on China was sitting on his desk at that moment.

"William, the situation doesn't look very optimistic."

"By the way, has any intelligence come in regarding their missile defense test last time?" John Wilson asked suddenly.

"Regarding the missile interception. Sorry boss, no specific details were detected, but the intelligence department received news that the day after China's interception experiment, several large-scale projects began construction in several directions across their territory."

"At first, our spies didn't take it seriously, thinking it was just ordinary construction, but later they realized it wasn't."

"Oh? Tell me the details!" John Wilson's interest was piqued.

"Well, there are troops stationed around every massive construction site, and judging by the scale, it's at least a heavy division!"

"So cautious? Based on my understanding of them, this project is highly likely to be a military project, and a top-secret one at that! Tell them to keep observing and keep an eye on this project."

"Yes, boss."

"William, these are some images captured by our military satellites. Take a look. What do you think?"

As John Wilson's chief intelligence officer, William Miller had his own exceptional qualities. John Wilson needed subordinates like him to assist in analyzing intelligence.

William took the photos and examined them carefully. The photos were very blurry, but one could generally make out a humanoid silhouette.

"When our satellites passed over, it seems they were subjected to some kind of interference, which is why the captured photos are so blurry."

"Later, the military specially deployed several backup reconnaissance satellites, but unfortunately, the result was the same. We suspect that China has implemented technical shielding over this military base." John Wilson explained from the side.

"Is there something special about this blurry thing?" William really couldn't make sense of the photo.

"It's very special. Although our satellites couldn't take a clear photo of it, they did detect its flight speed."

"Oh?"

"At its fastest, 10 Mach!"

"Do you mean China already has hypersonic missiles?"

"No, no, no, the situation might be even worse. Look at the photo; it doesn't look like a conventional missile, and what's bizarre is that its minimum speed is infinitely close to zero."

"What do you mean by zero?"

"Hovering, like the kind of hovering a helicopter does."

"This looks more like some kind of new equipment."

"Yes, William. We don't have any head-on photos of it, so it's very difficult to determine the purpose of this new weapon!"

"China has been making big moves lately!" William Miller began to contemplate life.

A dozen minutes later.

"Boss, I suggest you lobby those gentlemen at the Department of Defense directly to send a mixed fleet to the waters east of China—destroyers and reconnaissance ships will suffice. Do not use big things like aircraft carriers, lest China overreact!"

"And then?" John Wilson listened attentively.

"Then we need to take a risk and conduct an infiltration reconnaissance mission!" William said, looking at John Wilson with a smile.

"Haha, William, you always have a way. I'll draft the report right now."

"Alright boss, then I'll go back and make new arrangements. Many of the intelligence agents who infiltrated are still in hibernation. I need to wake up some of them and have them gather as much useful intelligence as possible."

John Wilson nodded, then opened his computer and began drafting the report.

...

While the netizens were frantically debating with foreign netizens.

As the protagonist of the event, Chu Ge was busy with his work as usual.

The "telescope project" had reached the installation and debugging stage.

Chu Ge and the relevant personnel from the project team arrived at the "Bunker" along with the equipment.

On the way to the Bunker, checkpoints began questioning people 50 kilometers away from the Bunker.

If you are not personnel related to the Bunker, then sorry, access ahead is prohibited.

Chu Ge's convoy was escorted by the military, so it was smooth sailing all the way. Chu Ge noticed that the closer they got to the "Bunker," the more military patrol guards there were.

Within 10 kilometers of the Bunker, one could see from afar many armored vehicles scattered everywhere, mostly air defense missile vehicles or gun-missile integrated vehicles.

Finally, Chu Ge reached their destination, the main building complex of the "Bunker".

Construction was underway in many places here, with many tower cranes, excavators, and engineering vehicle fleets moving in and out in grand processions.

Actually, this was just a surface disguise. The surface part of the Bunker would be built into a military camp, serving as the main base for four combined arms brigades. These four combined arms brigades were the outer protective force for the "Bunker" base.

Below the camp was the center of the project; a massive pit nearly 2,000 meters deep appeared before Chu Ge.

Looking from afar, buildings were being constructed layer by layer underground simultaneously, with a huge void left in the middle, running through the entire structure. Once their core device was installed, the "Bunker" would be covered and closed up layer by layer from the very bottom.

The "Bunker" resembled an inverted cone.

At the very bottom was its core area, the main body of the high-energy accelerator.

The accelerator was circular, and connected vertically above it was a spherical detection array composed of 360 detection panels, each panel arranged in a hexagonal shape.

The spherical array was fixed and could detect any missiles, aircraft, ships, submarines, and other military equipment on Blue Star from all angles without blind spots.

The panel detection data was directly aggregated to the central processors behind the wall via microprocessors.

Each detection panel was accompanied by a microprocessor, and finally, everything was aggregated into 10 massive central processors.

This was to ensure that processor crashes would not occur due to excessively large amounts of data.

The data hall was also designed to be circular, with an elevator in the center of the hall, only this elevator was a bit different from a standard one.

It had a huge telescopic cylinder in the middle for load-bearing and retraction, with personnel standing around the cylinder, protected by an open railing on the outside.

The design inspiration came from a submarine periscope.

The next level up was the rest area. The Bunker had a staff of over 1,600 people, including over 1,000 for daily operation of the detectors, 100 internal guards, 200 maintenance personnel, over 100 senior engineers responsible for the normal operation of core equipment and processors, and the remaining 200 were various water, electricity, and gas support personnel.

With so many personnel moving in, the required rest area was naturally vast; Chu Ge estimated it was comparable to a small community.

Above the rest area was the material storage area, used to stockpile daily necessities for the personnel and consumables for equipment operation.

The top level was the leisure and entertainment area. A secret military fortress does not allow casual entry and exit. Except for the one-week vacation after a three-month rotation, this level would be where they spent their time during their rotation.

Although the Bunker was over 60 meters underground, it was basically beyond the capability range of advanced bunker-busting missiles.

Between the layers of the Bunker, super-strong reinforced concrete with a depth of 2 meters was still used.

Such defensive strength could no longer be described as merely abnormal.

Chu Ge looked at the detailed information of the "Bunker" and felt a bit of admiration for the designers.

Other people have firepower phobia, but you guys have persecution phobia.
