20: Chapter 20 Cao Bo Makes His Move
A two-hour journey took Chu Ge and Dilireba Nazha a full three hours because they dawdled along the way.
Dilireba Nazha's home was in a villa district in the suburbs of Magic City; Chu Ge thought about it and decided not to follow her inside.
At least, the time was not yet right.
The two bid each other a reluctant farewell outside the villa district.
“Be careful on your way back!”
“Mm, don't worry. Go on inside.”
“Okay.”
Chu Ge hailed a taxi and left. Dilireba Nazha watched the taxi disappear into the distance, a wave of loss washing over her heart.
She entered the house listlessly, only to suddenly find her entire family, including several uncles who rarely visited, gathered together.
Cao Bo was prominently among them, causing Dilireba Nazha to frown.
“Nazha is back? Then I can rest easy! Alright, uncles, your nephew still has matters to attend to, so I won't disturb you further!”
After speaking, he straightened his sharp suit and strode away.
Several family elders stood up one after another.
“Take care, nephew!”
Dihar replied, then fixed his gaze on Dilireba Nazha.
“Nazha! Come here and explain what's going on with the news on this?”
Dilireba Nazha went over to look; it was a set of photos from H City, vividly captioned and very detailed.
Although Chu Ge had asked everyone not to post anything that day, it seemed someone had leaked it anyway.
Since fire cannot be wrapped in paper, and the matter was already exposed, Dilireba Nazha simply admitted it.
“It's basically true; we have already pledged our lives to each other!”
“Presumptuous!”
Nazha's father, Dihar, slammed the table...
Outside the door, Cao Bo heard this, his lip curling slightly before he dialed a number.
“How is it going?”
“Brother Cao, we're already following that kid!”
“Good. No matter what method you use, bring him to the old place!”
He then hung up the phone.
“You dare touch my woman? Then don't blame me for being ruthless!”
Cao Bo uttered the words coldly.
Chu Ge was sitting in the back of the taxi, busy bickering with Wang Qiang.
With a 'screech,' the taxi braked hard. Chu Ge lurched forward, his head slamming into the front seat. He clutched his head and scrambled up in a mess, about to complain to the driver,
When he suddenly noticed over a dozen burly men stepping out of three black Audi cars ahead.
“Heh, so they're looking for trouble.”
A bald man leading the group walked over and poked his head in to look.
“Driver, this is none of your business. Let the guy in the back out and get lost. If you dare call the police, I'll make sure you can't survive in Magic City anymore, believe it?!”
The driver was trembling as he looked back at Chu Ge.
“Listen to them, go ahead. It's fine!”
The driver seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, then shook his head.
Chu Ge got out of the car. After the taxi had driven far away, he leisurely pulled out a pack of cigarettes, took one out, slowly lit it, and took a deep drag.
“Are you people from the Di Family?”
“Brat, you sure put on a big show. In a moment, I'll have you calling me 'Grandpa'.”
“Is that so? I don't think so.”
As he finished speaking, a business van screeched to a halt behind them, stopping in front of the group.
The car door swung open, and four people swarmed out.
Captain Gong had arrived.
“I was wondering... so you had backup? Just the few of you?”
Chu Ge stubbed out his cigarette, shook his head, and walked up to Captain Gong.
“Ask them who sent them.”
Captain Gong nodded, and several special operations team members stepped forward to shield Chu Ge behind them.
Seeing this, the bald leader signaled his subordinates with his eyes.
The thugs received the order and pounced forward.
“Bang, bang, bang!”
In just one round, they were all flat on the ground.
Groans filled the air; it seemed Captain Gong and his men hadn't held back.
“Hmph, so you're trained. Brothers, grab the tools!”
The remaining thugs pulled daggers from their waists and surrounded them, watching like tigers over their prey.
Captain Gong made a hand gesture, and the special operations members instantly drew their weapons as well.
Four TZ-10 Military Pistols, their dark muzzles aimed at the bald man's group, were enough to make anyone's blood run cold.
The thugs opposite them instantly lost their composure and began to retreat, waiting for someone to lead the flight like scattered birds.
The bald leader still wouldn't give up, barking in a low voice:
“What are you afraid of? We don't even know if they're real. Even if they are, would they dare—”
“Bang!”
Before the bald man could finish, his leg suddenly felt a surge of heat. He looked down to see blood gushing out...
No leader was needed now. The remaining thugs scrambled back into their cars, ignoring whether the bald man lived or died, and sped away—
Captain Gong stepped forward, pointing his pistol at the bald man.
“I'll only ask once. Who sent you?”
“Cao Bo, the young master of the Cao Group! Don't kill me, don't kill me! I—I'm just a bodyguard!”
Having obtained the answer he wanted, Captain Gong turned back to Chu Ge.
“Academician Chu, please take our car back to H City. I'll send you the full details later.”
“Alright!”
Afterward, Captain Gong arranged for one member to stay behind to handle the aftermath, then drove toward H City with Chu Ge.
Inside the Di Family villa.
Dilireba Nazha was still throwing a tantrum. As the family's only precious daughter, she couldn't be reasoned with, nor could she be hit.
In the end, they could only leave things as they were for now.
Nazha's father, Dihar, had a bit of a headache; it seemed his darling daughter really didn't like the people from the Cao family.
However, the two sides had already made a verbal agreement for an alliance through marriage.
Though there was no formal engagement, a man's word is his bond, and the Cao family was not one to be trifled with.
This matter required long-term consideration.
“As for that Chu kid Nazha mentioned, send someone to look into him! Even if Nazha is unwilling to marry Cao Bo, she certainly won't just marry any random person.”
“Exactly, is he even worthy?”
The crowd chimed in. Dihar waved his hand, and the Di Family's grand interrogation session ended just like that.
It was best described as 'great thunder but little rain.'
Dilireba Nazha's father had spent decades navigating the business world and saw things very clearly.
While an alliance with the Cao family had certain benefits, the hidden risks were also great; it wasn't necessarily the best move.
If the Cao family was too greedy, it wasn't impossible that his family's industry would be swallowed up after his daughter married in.
For now,
If the person Dilireba Nazha favored was capable and could be devoted to his precious daughter, there was still plenty of room to maneuver.
After the family members left, Dihar sat alone in the hall, considering how to resolve this situation.
“Master, Xiao Zhang is back,” the butler reminded him from the side.
“Master.”
“Zhang Bao, didn't I tell you to follow that Chu kid? Why are you back?”
“The situation changed. On the way back to H City, the Cao family took action.”
“Oh? And then?”
“They failed. The Cao family even lost one of their men.”
“What? Tell me the details.”
“Yes!”
Zhang Bao told Dihar everything he had seen, in meticulous detail...
After hearing it, Dihar didn't speak for a long time, his brow furrowing even tighter.
“Over a dozen couldn't beat four, and the other side had guns?”
“Yes!”
“After the shot was fired, the Chu kid left one person behind and continued on his way.”
“Later, the Magic City police and ambulances arrived. The person the kid left behind to handle things seemed fine; after staying for a short while, he also headed toward H City!”
“To be unscathed through all this... could it be that the Chu kid has an official background?”
Dihar couldn't help but fall into deep thought.
“We thought the turn of events was a bit sudden, so we came back to report first!”
“Mm, you did the right thing. It seems now that the Chu kid is no ordinary person!”
“With things developing to this point, it doesn't seem too bad. At least we don't have to rush to explain anything to the Cao family; they certainly won't have time for us now!”
However,
“What is that kid's background? H City is so close to Magic City, yet there's no family there capable of shaking the Cao family.”
“Could it be... the surname Chu... could it be the Chu Family of Yanjing?”
Dihar's gaze suddenly sharpened...
