It couldn’t be that the Dark Union wanted his sister, right?

Alex could not think of any other possible reason why they would come to his home, the question in his mind now was why they wanted to kidnap Emily.

No matter what reasons they might have, Alex wasn’t going to let them take his sister; he silently decided to speed up his plan and craft the spells as soon as possible. Resolving the case of the missing people would ensure Emily’s safety as well since he has confirmed that the Dark Union was behind it.

Alex soon left the Union building, he had left the corpses of the dark beasts behind. Before he left, Silvia and the others had assured him that they would station some officers around the outskirts and keep watch to avoid another kidnapping in the outskirts.

While Alex was pleased with this, he wasn’t satisfied and didn’t plan to leave the safety of his sister in their hands. After all, these dark beasts were as strong as common rank magic beasts, while the officers were just humans with magic weapons.

Alex had other plans in mind as he left the Union building.

Getting outside, Alex moved through the well-lit street of the commercial district. He didn’t immediately use void walk skill to return to the outskirts because he felt someone following him.

Alex kept walking as if he had not noticed anything, he made a turn and entered a dark alley that was located between two tall buildings that prevented light from entering; he was still being followed.

He suddenly stopped just after walking a few meters into the alley and making sure that the other party had followed him too, he then asked without turning around.

"Are you going to keep following me or do you plan to come out?" His voice rang in the alley.

Silence followed for a few seconds before a figure materialised out of the ground, it was as if he had formed from the shadow of the building.

This caused Alex to raise an eyebrow in surprise. Although he didn’t see what had happened behind him, he had clearly felt the presence of a very rare element, one that was as rare as his space element.

The shadow element!

’That’s surprising, I’ve never heard of a shadow mage before.’ Alex thought to himself as he slowly turned out and looked at the other party.

"As expected of Mr Chen to sense me even when I’m using shadow blend, we were not wrong about you." The other party spoke in a mature male voice.

Alex gazed at the figure in front of him. The other party looked like a being made out of shadows and his body was constantly squirming as if it was caged smoke that might scatter any moment from now.

’So this is the shadow element, indeed worthy of its reputation.’ Alex thought in administration.

"Were you the one controlling the dark beasts?" Alex asked.

"No, it was a colleague. Although I am curious as to why Mr Chen decided to interfere, do you have any relation with that family?" The other party asked without moving from its position.

To be more specific, it didn’t look like it could move around freely in that state.

"No," Alex replied shortly. Since he was going against the Dark Union as Mr Chen, it would be stupid to form a relationship with his real identity and Mr Chen.



These people would definitely start to target him and his family to draw Mr Chen out.

The other party stayed silent for a while after hearing Alex’s response. The silence lingered for a few seconds before it was broken.

"That is good then. We have discovered that Mr Chen is investigating the missing children. This is indeed the doing of the Dark Union, but it is for a great course.

We would usually eliminate anyone who tries to stop us, but we have decided to make an exception for Mr Chen; we consider that you have a lot of potential and can become of great use to our course.

Join us, Mr Chen. You will receive power and status beyond your imagination." The other party spoke in a fanatic tone.

’So you want me to join the Dark Union and become an enemy with the entire world? I think I’ll pass on the offer.’ Alex said in his mind. He didn’t have any thoughts of joining a criminal organisation in a magic world to begin with.

Seeing Mr Chen remain silent, the other party tried to persuade him some more.

"You should already know that the Dark Union is widely known through the seven continents and we go about freely. Although Mr Chen is powerful, you are currently unknown.

Join us, and you shall have whatever you want: money, women, resources, power; anything will be within your reach as long as you make contributions to the Dark Union."

Alex stared at the other party.

’An Expert mage, how should I capture him?’ Alex was in thought, he didn’t think he could catch the other party with telekinesis.

The other party would definitely react once he saw Alex’s stars.

While Alex was thinking of how to capture this person, the other party thought that Alex was considering his offer and patiently waited.



After some time, Alex finally spoke up. But he didn’t say the words that the other party was expecting to hear.

"How about you come with me instead and answer some questions!" Alex’s voice rang out as he suddenly stepped forward.

The other party’s eyes widened in shock as he saw Mr Chen suddenly vanish and appeared beside him, he didn’t sense any mana fluctuation!

But to Alex’s surprise after grabbing the other party’s neck, he realized that he wasn’t able to get a firm grip as his fingers sank halfway through.

The other party also recovered from his shock at this moment and glanced at the white mask on Alex’s face.

"There are things that Mr Chen doesn’t know about the shadow element," After saying this, the other party suddenly faded out of Alex’s grip; it was as if he blended into the darkness around them.

"I will take this as a rejection from Mr Chen, the Dark Union won’t be kind anymore." The other party’s voice rang out in the alley after blending into the shadows before his presence disappeared completely.

Alex spread out his senses; he was certain that the other party had left and wasn’t hiding around.

"Tsk, damn shadow element." Alex clicked his tongue in annoyance before activating the Void walk again and opening a second gate in the outskirts.
