Chapter 243: Bet. Learning manners.

Air-piercing sounds rang out as several invisible bullets shot out from the two star patterns and flew towards the huge bird that was rapidly approaching the group.Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of the space bullets piercing the body of the bird was deafening as the body of the bird exploded with several holes, blood gushing out and feathers scattering into the air.

The beast let out a loud cry as it dropped from the sky with uncontrollable speed and crashed into the ground with a deafening boom that caused the earth to tremble.

There was a moment of silence after the bird dropped from the sky and it didn’t make any movements; it was already dead!

The five teenagers were shocked after seeing Alex one-hit-kill a magic beast that had taken the combined effort of the five of them to kill.

Even the other explorers could not help but be impressed.

At the same time, Alex received a notification from the system that he had received 10 exp points.

"Now what do you all think?" Harold turned to the five teenagers and asked, a teasing smile on his face.

The faces of some of them twisted in dissatisfaction.

"Hmm, he’s just lucky to have the space element. He’s not that special." The girl with long brown hair scoffed.

"Does that mean his element is stronger than yours? But he’s in the Core mage rank while you’re at the Expert mage rank, aren’t you simply saying he’s stronger than you?" Harold continued to tease them.

Alex just watched from the side without saying a word.

The other members of the Blue Cross group didn’t stop Harold from teasing the kids and just enjoyed the show from the side.

After bickering back and forth for almost a minute, Harold made a deal with the five kids. The noise from killing the previous 2 birds had certainly attracted the attention of several magic beasts in the surroundings and they were already heading to their location.

Harold proposed that the five of them would work together to kill the magic beasts that would show up while Alex would work alone to kill magic beasts as well.

By the end of the day, if Alex had more kills than the five of them combined, they were to apologise to him for their rude behaviour.

Of course, Harold and members of his group would be here to step in if any of them were in danger; this was just a bet and not something that serious.

But the five arrogant teenagers didn’t take it as something not-so-serious. They couldn’t accept apologising to a nobody, so they agreed to Harold’s terms.

They even declared that they would kill the magic beasts separately and not work together against someone like Alex.

Harold turned to ask Alex if he was fine with the decision. Since Alex didn’t really mind messing with these arrogant kids, he agreed to it.

Time passed quickly as the ground moved deeper into the dried-wood plain. The five teenagers and Alex stayed in front while Harold and the others followed them closely behind in case they needed help.


A few hours into their bet, the teenagers realised that they had made a grave mistake by wanting to hunt separately.

The two birds that they killed earlier had attracted the attention of a lot of magic beasts and dozens of them were beginning to appear at the same time.

Facing one by themselves wasn’t as easy as they imagined because some of their spells would require the bird to be pinned down.

Because, unlike Alex, who had great precision with his space bullets, these kids weren’t so good at aiming at magic beasts that ruled the skies and could easily dodge spells that were as fast as bullets.

Gritting their teeth and thickening their skins, they decided to work together after some of them almost got carried away by some magic beasts; still, it wasn’t enough for them to match up to Alex’s rate of dropping these creatures.

He could kill two or three of these birds with a single space bullet spell! It was shocking.

Even the members of Harold’s group were unable to believe that he was just an ordinary Core rank mage.

How could a Core rank mage be so powerful?

Hours passed swiftly, and it was soon evening. Harold decided that the group had trained enough, and it was time for them to return. But first, they had to fulfil the conditions of their bets.

Without needing to count the magic beasts that both sides had killed during the past hours, everyone knew that Alex had won with an overwhelming number of beast corpses compared to the other five.

"So, are you all going to apologise for looking down on him? He’s clearly a Core rank mage but did better than you give combined." Harold stated, purposely stabbing at their pride.

"Tks, you tricked us. He obviously isn’t an ordinary Core mage!" The boy with long black hair spat with agitation and then turned to Alex.

"You, who are you?" He asked while pointing at Alex’s face.

"Alex, Alex Zoran from Balon City," Alex replied plainly as if there was nothing special about him.

The boy "..."

Veins popped up on his neck after hearing Alex’s response. Who was this red-haired punk messing with? Like hell he wanted to know Alex’s name or which city he was from.

Before Alex could reply, Harold’s voice sounded from the side.

"In case you’re curious. He’s a student at Brandvel Magic University and also my neighbour." Harold had a wide grin on his face as he said this.

The five teenagers "..."

They stared at Alex and the old mage with blank expressions on their faces, suddenly feeling like they had been scammed.

Meanwhile, the members of the Blue Cross group came to a realization after hearing Alex’s identity. So he was a student from Brandvel Magic University, no wonder he was so powerful despite being just a Core mage.

"Old man, you tricked us! Why didn’t you say he was a student from Brandvel Magic University earlier?" The girl with long brown hair asked, and she was vexed.

She would never have tried to mess with Alex if she knew about this. They all knew that Brandvel Magic University was the best Magic university in the whole City and she had even failed to get in.

For a Core mage to make it, he had to be something.

Without wasting another moment to argue, she turned toward Alex and offered a slight bow.

"Sorry for my earlier behaviour"

She walked off after saying that.

’Well that was easy,’ he thought.

The others followed in the girls’ footsteps and offered simple apologies as well before leaving. When it was the turn of the kid with the same family name as Eric, he gave Alex a long stare before apologising; it was as if he was thinking of something.

"That ought to teach them some manners, being a good explorer isn’t all about skills." Harold chuckled as he watched the five of them while standing next to Alex.

"I agree," Alex nodded.

Harold turned his head and stared at Alex.

"But that was truly impressive, Alex. You sure you haven’t thought about joining my group yet?" He asked.
