Chapter 166: Alex, please win.

The four from Dragonic Magic Academy stepped into the arena nervously, their opponents standing across them on the other side of the arena, staring at them calmly.

On the side of the Holy Cloud Magic Academy were four students who were all at the Core mage rank. While on the side of Dragonic Magic Academy, only Glen had reached the Core rank; the others were all Adept rank mages.

Immediately the referee announced the start of the match, the students from Holy Cloud Magic Academy started to attack with full force; they didn’t laze around like they did during the first round of the tournament, where only a few of them fought while the other stood back.

The four of them formed star patterns of different colours and launched their spells at Glen’s team.

Glen and his teammates weren’t planning to just sit back and wait to get bullied by their opponents, they retaliated and summoned their own star patterns as well.

Amelia summoned her vines and sent them out. The two vines shot forward like snakes towards the students from Holy Cloud Magic Academy; their speed was as fast as cars.

Jason and Ryan also cast their Adept rank spells as well to fight back while Glen summoned two ice shackles that danced in the middle of the arena.

Alas, the difference in strength wasn’t something that they could easily overcome, especially when their opponents were talented mages from a top Magic Academy.

While Glen was able to hold his own against one enemy, Amelia and the other two weren’t so fortunate.

Their opponents molested them with Core rank spells, and their Adept rank spells were unable to resist the molestation.

(Not literally but you get what I mean, hehe.)

Just a few minutes after the match started, Ryan was sent flying and slammed into the barrier that was surrounding the arena. He dropped to the ground and immediately passed out.

Amelia found herself in the middle of two Core rank spells with no place to dodge to because she would be affected no matter where she moved. Her vines were unavailable since they had been destroyed by a spell previously, so she was unable to protect herself.

Luckily, one of the referees moved on time and blocked the spells for her. But by doing so, Amelia had been automatically disqualified and could no longer join the fight.

Jason was similarly knocked flying by a spell but was caught by one of the referees before he could crash into the barrier and hurt himself.

In less than three minutes after the match started, Glen was the only one left on his team while the opponents still had a complete team.

The audience felt that it was a shame and couldn’t help but shake their heads, Glen’s teammates were unreliable.

Like what online gamers always say, having useless teammates was scarier than facing the strongest opponent!

The teachers and students from Dragonic Magic Academy all covered their faces in embarrassment when they saw the situation in the arena, Glen was currently being surrounded by four enemies who were all at the Core mage rank.

The vice dean shook her head and silently hoped for Glen to surrender and not get hurt.

In the arena, Glen looked around with narrowed eyes. Seeing that he was the only one left and was now surrounded, he gritted his teeth in stubbornness.

Were they going to lose again? He knew that the best course of action at the moment was to surrender, but Glen didn’t want to surrender; he didn’t want to be carried by Alex again.

He wanted to make some contributions!

His eyes blazed with a pale blue shine as his body exploded with the aura of a Core mage. The temperature dropped drastically as Glen made the mana in his body move at full speed.

He wasn’t going to let Alex take all of the glory, he was going to push himself to his limits and clutch this match!

"Ice spikes!" Glen roared like a mad beast.

Anyways. A few seconds later, Glen was carried off the arena by a referee, unconscious and his uniform a mess after being molested by Core rank spells.

Alex facepalmed in his seat, using everything in him to hold back his laughter as he watched Glen being taken away. It was a good thing that the referees now were Expert mages and their reaction speed were very fast. If not, Glen wouldn’t have left with just a ruined uniform as his opponents didn’t show any mercy even though they outnumbered him.

’He should have just surrendered instead of being stubborn, for a moment, I thought he was going to perform a miracle.’ Alex thought to himself, still holding his laughter back.

How could he not know that expression on Glen’s face just a while ago? That was what most main characters in anime and comics usually did when they were about to do the impossible and reverse a situation.

Alex had read and watched a lot of such scenes, so he had gotten some level of expectancy when he saw Glen explode with mana, only to get jumped.

It was really hilarious.

After Glen was brought away, they looked for a plant mage who had crossed the Core mage rank to come heal him. Meanwhile, the next matches continued.

The top four magic academies continued to dominate, but they were obviously putting in more effort now. Also, more teams were beginning to use magic items in their matches.

This wasn’t against the rules so the referees didn’t say anything and just waited to see if any of the students would need saving.

By four in the evening, all eleven matches for the day had ended and it was time for people to return to their homes.

Alex immediately stood up to leave but someone called out to him from behind.

Alex had expected that it would be the vice dean after their team lost their first match, but surprisingly, it was Glen.

"What is it?" Alex asked with a raised eyebrow. He never had any problems with Glen during their years in the academy; he didn’t bully him like the rest, but didn’t help him either.

It could be said that Glen was simply "minding his business."

The boy had a conflicted expression on his face as he stared at Alex, and the other students and teachers were also looking at them. The vice dean watched silently from behind without doing anything.

After staying silent for a while, Glen suddenly did a 90-degree bow in front of Alex.

"Sorry that we lost again, our next opponent is the Golden Elements Magic Academy, and it’s very unlikely that we’ll win and even if we win, it still won’t be enough.

So, Alex, please win!" Glen said before standing straight again, his expression was serious as he stared Alex in the eyes.

Alex was slightly stunned for a while, did the vice dean send this kid to say this to him? Why did everything that he said sound so familiar?

Regardless, Alex still nodded and replied.

"We’ll see." After saying that, he turned around and left.

He met up with his family and Alicia outside the stadium.

His parents thought that Alex would be upset about his academy losing and wanted to console him, but they were surprised that he was chill and relaxed instead.

Alicia knew why but didn’t say anything. After all, she had heard Clint explain the needed points for the second round and she was certain that Alex would win.

Alex moved closer to Alicia and asked in a low voice if she enjoyed the matches.

Alicia flinched and replied that it was fun and she had fun. Alex knew that she was lying and told her to be honest.

"It’s boring, can I not come next time?" Alicia asked softly.

Alex shrugged his shoulders in response, she would have to ask his parents regarding that.

They had barely walked far when they met the members of the Rising Wave group.

Mia wanted to give them a ride home again.

His mother tried to turn the offer down, Mia had been taking them home every day during the first round of the tournament; she wasn’t totally fine with it, even Zoran didn’t feel completely comfortable.

Mia waved her hands and told them to get rid of those thoughts because she wasn’t going to stop giving them a ride after every tournament.

She said that Alex had been very useful during raids and missions, and that giving them a ride wasn’t an issue as well.

Facing the stubborn Mia, Alex’s parents weren’t able to refuse and accepted.

It was then that Mia and the others from the group noticed Alicia, they were stunned by her cuteness.

When they asked who she was, Alex’s mother told them the same thing that Alex had told her.

After hearing the story, Mia and the other members of the group turned to look at Alex with meaningful smiles.

Alex could literally tell what they were trying to say from their expressions.

’So you lied to us, you didn’t get rejected!’

’Your girlfriend was homeless? Why didn’t you bring her to the group’s base?’

’Isn’t she too young, though? Do you like them young? Well, I guess you’re still young too.’
