Chapter 149: Friday

Somehow, Alex managed to leave without giving an explanation to Simon and Phil; although they promised to get a response from him the next time they had the chance.

Mia once again offered to give the family a ride home, and they didn’t try to refuse like the previous time and were soon on their way. Along the way, Emily couldn’t stop talking about the tournament today and saying how cool Alex was.

One might even think that she was the one who had been in the arena.

After dropping the family in front of their home, Mia and Simon returned to their base while the family went inside. Alex looked at the area they were living in, and he was already making plans on how to give some of his money to his parents and move them off the outskirts.

He wasn’t poor anymore and had lots of ways to make millions of Zen every day; their living conditions had to change to fit his pocket. Of course, he wasn’t going to reveal his identity as Mr Chen to his family and would share his wealth through a more convenient method.

He decided to wait till the end of the tournament before he would carry out his plans.

Time passed, the next day came quickly and everyone had gathered in the stadium once again for today’s tournament.

Matches soon began and academies were called out when their turns came.

It didn’t take long for the turn of the Dragonic Magic Academy to come. Amelia, Glen, Ryan, and Jason were brought down by teacher Christi as usual.

They got on the arena and faced their opponents, students from Crimson Tide Magic Academy, the academy that was ranked 9th in the previous tournament.

Both sides had watched each other’s previous matches and already had an idea of each other’s strength.

The match started after the announcement from the referee and both teams charged at each other.



After several minutes of fighting, the Crimson Tide Magic Academy showed why they were ranked 9th in the previous tournament. It was another loss for the Dragonic Magic Academy!

Glen and the others had lifeless looks on their faces as they left the arena and returned to the sitting area of their academy. Teacher Christi followed behind them while trying to console them.

But it was obvious that her words weren’t having any effect. The team had lost two matches out of three and there was only one chance left that would decide if their academy would advance to the second round of the tournament or not.

Alex shot a glance at the four youths who looked like the world had crashed on them and couldn’t help but feel sorry for them. But that was all, he didn’t say anything to comfort them and kept staring at the next matches.

As usual, the top academies got easy wins by overwhelming their opponents. Up till now, none of the top four academies had met each other.

By evening, all matches had ended and it was time for everyone to return to their homes.

The vice dean tried to speak with Alex after the end of the day’s tournament, but Alex didn’t give her that chance. By the time the vice dean started to look for him, he was already gone.

Alex returned to his family and the members of the Rising Wave group before they could even come out of the stadium.

While they walked out, Mia asked how Alex felt about his next match which was tomorrow.

She had been keeping track of the progress of the Dragonic Magic Academy and knew that they needed one more win to reach the next round. If Alex lost tomorrow’s match, then they would have to pack their things and become spectators of the tournament.

"Do you think I’ll lose?" Alex asked with an innocent smile.

"Of course not, which student can possibly be more of a freak than you? I doubt any student in this tournament can defeat you even if they are at the Core mage rank, not even those from the top 3 magic academies!" Joan exclaimed from the side and Emily immediately supported her.

They had absolute trust in his abilities.

Mia smiled after hearing their words. She looked at Alex and said.

"Do your best, I believe your mom wants you to win no matter what. Don’t give up even if you get burned by a fire spell."

"I do not! It’s too dangerous, surrender if the opponent is too strong!" His mother immediately jumped in and denied Mia’s words.

"Hehehe, I was just kidding. Calm down, will you? Gosh, you behave as if he isn’t an explorer; do you think these kids can take out a magic beast by themselves?" Mia shook her head with a helpless smile on her face.

Alex’s mother pouted and didn’t reply.

"All right, let me bring you guys home."

They got to the outskirts not long after and entered their home. Nothing eventful happened and the night passed quickly.

Friday was the last day of the first round of the tournament.

The stadium was filled up as early as 8 in the morning and the match line-up for the day was already being projected for everyone to see.

After spotting the name of their academy and their opponents’ on the line-up, the vice Dean turned to look in Alex’s direction.

Their match was going to be the second match today!

She had wanted to speak with Alex yesterday after the end of the tournament but he didn’t give her the chance. Now that he was here, she felt that there wasn’t any need anymore; they could only keep their fingers crossed.

The rest of the students and teachers of the Dragonic Magic Academy also had anxious expressions after finding out that their match against Thunder Peak Magic Academy was going to be the second match today.

As for the first match, it was between Blue Void Magic Academy, which Laura was representing and Redhollow Magic Academy!

Glen, Amelia, and the others turned to look at the calm-faced Alex. They wondered why he wasn’t anxious. He might have dominated in his match against the Black Rose Magic Academy but that academy was different from the Thunder Peak Magic Academy.

One was ranked 12th while the other was ranked 6th, the gap was huge!

"If Alex doesn’t win, then..." a student mumbled nervously, not daring to finish his sentence.

"Shuu, don’t say such words. Stay positive, my father said that being positive can create miracles."

"But it’s the Thunder Peak Magic Academy, didn’t you see the student representing them the last time? He had the lightning element and was very aggressive in his attacks."

"To be honest, I’m nervous too. But we have to trust him, we have no other choice since those four failed."

Amelia, Glen, Jason, and Ryan, who obviously heard the whispering voice of this student, felt like vomiting blood. It felt like someone had poked them with a hot metal on an open wound and then rubbed pepper on it.

They had yet to get over the fact that they lost twice themselves, yet this ungrateful person had to rub it in their face.

’If it was so easy to win, why weren’t you in the arena instead of us?!’

The projection disappeared after some seconds, and the names of the Blue Void Magic Academy and their opponent were projected. Laura and her opponent came up and their match started soon after.

Everyone had expected to see another ferocious display of strength from Laura today but were surprised that she wasn’t as aggressive as she was the last time.

Although she still overwhelmed her opponent, the student wasn’t as miserable as the one from Seren Moon Magic Academy by the time their match ended and Laura had won.

In the sitting area of the Seren Moon Magic Academy, the student who had been Laura’s opponent two days ago felt a sharp sting in his heart after seeing how Laura fought today’s match.

Could it really be that he had unknowingly offended her which was why she treated him so roughly?



Don’t stop me, I’m going to cry in the back!

After Laura’s match, it was time for Alex to go up to the arena.

All of the students from the Dragonic Magic Academy watched him leave with crossed fingers, hoping for him to perform another miracle.

"Oh, it’s that space mage. Let’s see how he’ll perform this time." At the top of the stadium, the Archmage voiced out after spotting Alex.

The young man and lady sitting beside him turned and stared at him with judgmental expressions.

It can’t be that he was still bent on giving this Adept mage the recommendation quota, right?

Alex and his opponent got into the arena, both already aware of each other’s element and fighting style.

Or so Alex’s opponent thought.

Immediately the referee announced for the match to start, the lightning mage shot backwards. He created a huge gap of over sixty meters between himself and Alex.

"I was told that the length of an Adept space Mage’s telekinesis control was only 30 to 50 meters, as long as out of that range, you can’t do anything." The boy said with a smart smirk on his face.
