Chapter 8 - Breaking the newsAlex turned to look and saw Nora jogging over in her tight uniform, he was amazed of how agile she was despite her size.

"Must be one of the perks of having the wind element," Alex muttered to himself.

" Where are you going? Do you have anything to do later?" Nora asked after reaching Alex.

"Yes, I do have plans for later. Why do you ask?" Alex replied with a raised eyebrow.

"I know a good place not far from my home, they sell really tasty food as well as meat of magic beasts. They are doing a sales promotion and are selling magic meat at a very low price. I wanted to take you with me; they offer a special discount offer for couples!" Nora explained excitedly, she was almost drooling as she spoke.

Alex looked at the girl with a helpless look on his face, she had such a good talent but couldn't think of anything besides food. Who knew how strong she would have been if she worked as hard as the old Alex?

Indeed, good things come to people who are too lazy to utilize the opportunity.

"Are you indirectly asking me out on a date?" Alex replied teasingly. The drooling look on Nora's face immediately vanished and was replaced with a shy expression.

"I know I'm good looking and talented, plus my family is rich. But that shouldn't let you take advantage of me, we're friends but I'm way out of your league. Humph!" Nora said softly while twisting her hair with her fingers.

Alex almost burst out in laughter when he heard those words, his expression showed that he was holding back the urge to laugh.

'Who are you kidding? I'm one of the most handsome boys in the whole academy and you're the one taking advantage of me, you meatball!' Alex laughed inwardly but didn't say it out as he didn't want to kill the girl's fantasy.



"Whatever, suit yourself. I have things to do." Alex said while walking away, he didn't wait for whatever Nora had to say next.

" Huh? Wait! My couple's discount!"

Sound of Nora's miserable cries could be heard from behind him but he didn't stop.

Alex soon arrived at his sister's school, Emily was already waiting for him outside.

Holding the straps of her backpack with both hands, she drew circles with her feet as she waited to the side.

Alex smiled when he saw this and slowly approached her.

"Boo!" He said from behind her, startling Emily.

"Wahhh! You scared me!" Emily pouted and hit Alex's arm.

Alex laughed, he felt her expression when she got scared was very priceless and wanted to do it again but that would have to wait.

He paused to observe his sister, her uniform didn't look dirty, no liquid stains could be found on her, and no new bruises on her skin.

'The principal sure knows how to do his job,' Alex said in his thoughts before returning his focus to the still pouting Emily.

"You didn't fall today?" He asked.

Emily's expression changed briefly before turning back to normal.

"No, was I supposed to fall? I'm not a baby anymore." Emily replied, her expression clearly showed that she was still angry about Alex scaring her.

"Alright alright, I'm sorry. Please forgive me." Alex said with deep sincerity and clapped his two hands together.

"Pfttt! Hahaha,"

Emily covered her mouth and giggled when she saw his action, they exchanged words for a while more before leaving for their house.

After they left, three girls walked over and were looking at them in the distance.

"Ahh, I feel so angry when I see her happy. Her brother is trash but he still plays with her," one of them said while gritting her teeth.

"I can't believe the school is now protecting her, when did they start to care? I was stopped by a teacher today when I wanted to spill juice on her, he clearly predicted what I was about to do.

And when I tried to do it again, he gave me a stern warning, can you believe that?" Another one complained in similar anger.

The two of them furiously complained while the third girl with red hair stared into the distance in silence, her brows creased in a frown as a wicked light flashed in her eyes.

"I know what to do," She suddenly said.

The two other girls immediately stopped talking and looked at her.

"And what are you going to do?" One of them asked.



"Since the school wants to get involved...I'm going to report to my father," The girl said and the eyes of the other girls lit up.

Not far away, the principal who was spying on them with his senses closed his eyes and rubbed his nose bridge; he felt exhausted.

"These teenage girls, causing trouble all over the place. Even your family can't bear to offend the person who is looking after that Emily kid." he said with a sigh before walking away, he had to prepare an explanation for the girl's father.

Alex and Emily soon arrived home, they found their mother working in the kitchen; their father was not back from work yet.

"You two should freshen up and come down, the table will be set shortly," their mother said to them.

Emily and Alex left for their rooms, took their baths and changed into normal clothes before coming down for launch.

While eating, their mother asked them how classes went and if they needed anything at school.

"The principal talked to me today, he told me to work hard and that I had good talent!" Emily reported excitedly, it was her first time interacting with the principal since she entered the school. What's more, the principal of her school was a strong mage!

"Oh my, really? That's good to hear, we'll take you to awaken when you turn 16. Maybe you'll get a rare element like your brother," their mother said with a sweet smile on her face.

Alex could not help but smile, that old fart was trying to build a good impression on his sister; he would allow it though, as long as he kept protecting her.

"What about my baby boy? Do you need anything?"

Alex was pulled out of his thoughts by his mother's question, he looked and saw her staring at him gently.

"Uhh, I don't need anything but I have something to say." Alex voiced out.

"Oh, what is that?" His Mom asked, Emily also stopped eating to look at him.

The sound of Emily's spoon falling into her plate broke the short silence that followed after Alex's words.

"Mm, umm...are you sure about that? Will you be alright?" Their mother cleared her throat and asked. Her tone was filled with worry for her son, she could not imagine him possibly performing well in the competition with his situation.

Emily was also equally looking at her brother with worry, she knew he wasn't able to improve. The people in the competition every year were really too powerful for her brother to compete with.

"You two don't have to worry too much, I've changed. Let me show you,"

Alex said and stretched one of his hands forward, silver white stars suddenly appeared in front of him and formed into a star pattern!

Alex made a cup on the table to float in the air and rotate around him.

His mother and Emily gasped at the sight of his, they opened their mouths wide enough to fit in a whole egg.

Alex looked at her expression and chuckled.

"I broke through to the Adept Mage rank a few days ago, I can manage," Alex said while controlling the cup to land on the table.



"Alex, you... " Alex's mother finally recovered from her shock. She wanted to speak but didn't know what to say so she got up and hugged Alex instead.

"I'm so happy, I'm so so happy for you!" his mother said while forcing herself not to cry but was still sobbing uncontrollably.

She was aware of the humiliation her son had been facing all these years due to his lack of talent but there was nothing she could do, she was a helpless mother and could only watch her child suffer.

No one knew just how relieved she was to see her son finally doing what would make him happy.

Emily couldn't help herself and joined in the hug too, they were both relieved and extremely happy to hear this news from Alex.

Alex froze, he didn't expect them to hug him so affectionately. He hesitated whether to hug them back while keeping his arms suspended in the air but the hesitation only lasted for a brief moment.

'I am Alex now and they are my family,' Alex thought before hugging his mother and sister.

They separated after a while and went back to their meal.

"Your father will be happy when he hears this, you should tell him when he comes back." his Mom suggested.

"Uh, that's the thing. I have to meet up with someone later and might not come back early, can you please tell him?" Alex asked.

"Alright, I'll. Now eat up, tell me if you need more!" his mother replied with a smile, now more energised than before.

" Alright, Mom!"
