165: Chapter 165 Base Nightmare

"Bang!"

A crisp gunshot shattered the brief dead silence inside the dormitory building.

Immediately after, it wasn't just one shot, but a volley!

"Da-da-da-da-da—!"

The roar of an automatic rifle poured frantically from a room on the third floor, emptying a magazine in just a few seconds.

"Aaaah! Don't come over! Don't come any closer!"

Shrill screams mixed with inhuman roars, then abruptly stopped.

"Wooo—wooo—wooo—!"

Piercing alarms instantly echoed throughout the K-4 Airbase, and red warning lights flashed frantically in every corner.

Inside the base control tower, the duty commander grabbed the walkie-talkie.

"What's happening in the dormitory area?! Who the hell is shooting!"

Only static crackled through the walkie-talkie, along with the faint, terrifying sound of something gnawing on bones like a wild beast.

"Quick! Quick Reaction Force! Get to the dormitory area immediately! Possible terrorist infiltration! Repeat, possible terrorist attack!"

The order was issued swiftly.

Beside the apron, an armored personnel carrier loaded with twelve fully armed Soldiers roared out, speeding toward the dormitory building. The captain inside watched the lit building through the observation window, his brow furrowed.

"Stay sharp! Anyone who can sneak in here silently is no pushover! Prepare to engage!"

"Yes, sir!"

However, when their armored vehicle stopped fifty meters from the dormitory building, everyone was stunned.

The firefights and explosions they expected were nowhere to be found.

The entire building was eerily quiet, with only the piercing alarm echoing.

"What's the situation?" The vice-captain asked, looking completely bewildered.

The captain held up his binoculars, staring intently at the building's entrance and windows, his unease growing.

"Be careful, something's wrong..."

Before he could finish his sentence...

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The glass windows on the third, fourth, and fifth floors of the dormitory building were violently shattered by bodies from the inside!

Figures wearing SDF uniforms jumped one after another from the windows over ten meters high, slamming heavily onto the ground.

Eerily, though their bones were broken and their bodies contorted from the fall, they struggled to their feet, swaying in unnatural, joint-defying postures!

"Holy crap... isn't that Isaac from the Third Battalion? Has he gone crazy?!" a Soldier cried out in terror.

Then, the main entrance of the dormitory building was slammed open by a massive force from within.

Not one, not ten.

But hundreds!

Hundreds of "comrades" with rolled-back eyes and blood and bits of flesh hanging from their mouths—men they had shared drinks and stories with just days ago—swarmed out like a floodgate opening, charging toward them!

"Fire! Don't let them get close! Fire!"

The captain finally reacted, roaring at the top of his lungs.

The heavy machine gun on the roof fired first, the storm of bullets instantly tearing the leading "people" into shreds.

But the infected behind them stepped over their comrades' corpses without concern, continuing their frantic charge.

The Soldiers inside also began to fire back through the firing ports, but their hands trembled as they held their weapons.

Shooting their own comrades, no matter how bizarre they looked, took a massive psychological toll on these Soldiers.

And that moment of hesitation was fatal.

An infected slammed onto the armored vehicle's observation window, opening its bloody maw and bashing against the bulletproof glass. That distorted but familiar face was the logistics soldier who had been playing cards with the machine gunner just last night.

"Aaaaah!"

Panic began to spread inside the vehicle.

A brutal and absurd massacre officially began in the heart of this military fortress.

While everyone's attention was drawn to the hellish scene at the dormitory, no one noticed three patches of sand in the apron area, far from the center of the chaos, suddenly bulging upward.

"Boom!"

Sand and soil exploded as three metal scorpions, like prehistoric behemoths, emerged silently from the ground.

Ignoring the distant gunfire and screams, they stepped out on their articulated limbs and headed straight for the fighter jets parked in the hangars.

Those were brand-new F-35 fighter jets, the pride of the Israel Air Force, each representing tens of millions of dollars and top-tier technology.

One of the Walkers walked up to the nearest F-35.

The hangar guard spotted the behemoth and frantically opened fire with his rifle in terror.

"Ding-ding-dang-dang!"

The bullets struck the Walker's black carapace without leaving even a white scratch, as if a child were throwing pebbles.

The Walker didn't even bother with the annoying fly.

It raised a massive pincer, its metallic, cold-glinting claws piercing the wing root of the F-35 with effortless ease.

"Screech—!"

A tooth-gritting sound of tearing metal.

The wing, worth millions of dollars and crafted from the finest composite materials, was ripped off by force and tossed aside.

Then, its other pincer rose high, aiming at the aircraft's incredibly precise cockpit.

"Pshhh!"

A thick, dark green liquid sprayed from the tip of the pincer.

The moment the liquid touched the fuselage, pungent white smoke rose. The solid special alloy rapidly dissolved and collapsed before the corrosive fluid, revealing the complex electronic circuitry within.

The expensive fighter jet was truly no different from a paper toy in its presence.

The other two Walkers began "dismantling" other fighter jets and attack helicopters in the same efficient and brutal manner.

Steel against steel.

But this was the steel of biotechnology against the steel of industrial technology.

A one-sided slaughter.

"Report! Report! We are under attack!!"

In the control tower, a young radar controller broke down as he watched two distinct yet equally horrific scenes on the monitors.

On one side, he saw his own Soldiers devouring each other near the dormitory, flesh and blood flying as they turned into demons from hell.

On the other, three monsters beyond his wildest imagination were systematically destroying all the Air Force's assets!

He grabbed the communicator, screaming incoherently to the supreme command center.

"Monsters! There are monsters in the base! They're everywhere! The Soldiers have gone mad! They're eating people! Our planes... Oh god, our planes are being torn apart! Requesting backup! Requesting—"

His voice was cut off by a loud crash.

A zombie smashed through the glass on the ground floor of the control tower and burst inside.

Chaos was the best cover.

Hunk and his remaining thirty-seven "Soldiers" moved through the chaotic base like shadows walking through purgatory.

Wherever they went, order collapsed and death spread.

An SDF officer was running out of a building with two subordinates in terror, trying to reach the armory for heavier firepower.

"Pfft."

A faint, almost inaudible sound.

The Soldier running at the back slumped his neck and collapsed, his body going stiff.

"Hey! What's wrong with you?" the officer shouted anxiously, turning back.

He was answered by the Soldier's suddenly raised, pure white eyes and an inhuman roar.

Hunk stepped out from a corner, continuing forward without even glancing at the tragedy about to unfold.

Behind him, a "Soldier" skillfully loaded a new dart magazine into his pneumatic rifle.

Occasionally, mindless infected would roar and pounce toward them.

These B.O.W Soldiers didn't even need Hunk's orders; they raised their hands and fired precise shots, blowing apart the infected's skulls or cleanly decapitating them with combat knives.

Hunk himself was human, and the T-Virus was just as lethal to him.

But not a single infected could get within five meters of him.

His squad was like a precision killing and infection machine, efficiently clearing the path while constantly creating new sources of chaos.

Their objective was terrifyingly clear.

Hunk stopped in front of a massive fuel depot. He took a high-energy plastic explosive from his pack, expertly attached it to a support pillar of the fuel tank, and set the timer.

One of his subordinates headed toward the nearby ammunition depot.

Finally, Hunk looked up, glancing coldly at the brightly lit control tower in the distance, which was now filled with screams of despair.

He made a gesture.

Two "Soldiers" broke away from the group and slunk toward the control tower.

That would be the final explosion site.

Having finished everything, Hunk pressed his communicator and spoke two words in his usual icy tone.

"Mission complete."
