97: Chapter 97 The End of Evolution
"That's more like it. The charm of the G-Virus lies in its never-ending evolution."
As soon as Chen Feng finished speaking, the brand-new killing machine on the command center screen, evolved from the remains of the G-Creature, confirmed his words with its actions.
The evolved G-II Form had actually shrunk a bit in size compared to before, becoming leaner and more compact. The originally bloated tumorous tissue was replaced by a deep black, carapace-like structure, and the bone spurs on its back became more symmetrical and sharp. Most terrifyingly, no eyeballs grew back in the eye sockets destroyed by the rockets; instead, they split into three thick tentacles, their bone-bladed tips glinting with a metallic luster in the dim light.
"Roar!"
A short, murderous low growl.
The next second, the G-II moved.
Its speed was several times faster than before, leaving an afterimage as it instantly charged in front of the middle-aged man named Ricardo.
Ricardo's pupils constricted sharply. His battle-hardened reflexes allowed him to instinctively roll away.
But the two subordinates behind him weren't so lucky.
Puchi! Puchi!
Two tentacles pierced through their chests like spears, hoisting them high into the air. Amidst the stomach-churning sound of tearing flesh, the two corpses were flung against the wall, smashing into a pulp.
"The armored car! Drive the armored car in! Smash it into mincemeat!"
Ricardo scrambled behind a support pillar, screaming hysterically into his walkie-talkie.
A heavy engine roar came from outside the manor. Soon, a modified M113 Armored Personnel Carrier, topped with a .50 caliber heavy machine gun, crashed through the main doors and into the main hall.
"Fire! Suppress it!"
Dadadadadada—!
A chain of fire formed by large-caliber machine gun bullets lashed against the G-II's body, sending sparks flying in all directions.
However, these bullets, which could easily tear through light armor, only left shallow craters on the G-II's black carapace, failing to slow its momentum in the slightest.
Furthermore, the G-II seemed thoroughly enraged by this fly-like harassment.
Ignoring the rain of bullets, it lunged forward like a cannonball, charging straight at the armored car.
"Run it over! Smash—"
Before Ricardo could finish his command, he witnessed a scene he would never forget for the rest of his life.
Less than three meters from the armored car, the G-II's massive frame suddenly dropped low, and its shoulder slammed into the high-speed steel beast.
Screech—!
Amidst the ear-piercing sound of twisting metal, the front of the ten-plus-ton armored car was forced upward by sheer brute strength.
Then, the G-II's three hideous tentacles tightly coiled around the chassis. Its abdominal muscles bulged as it let out a heaven-shaking roar.
"Roar—!"
Amidst the terrified screams of the crew inside, the entire armored car was lifted over its head and violently slammed into the opposite wall!
Boom!
With a loud crash, a large hole was smashed into the reinforced concrete wall. The armored car rolled inside, turning into a pile of smoking scrap metal.
The entire manor instantly fell into a dead silence.
All the surviving drug traffickers were stunned, their smoking rifles looking utterly pathetic in their hands.
...
"Power assessment: instantaneous explosive force exceeds fifty tons."
In the command center, Chen Feng calmly reported a set of data, which Marcus rapidly recorded.
"Boss, this thing's evolution has gone beyond our control." Marcus's tone was heavy as he watched the monster on the screen flip an armored car with its bare hands.
"Control? I never intended to control it." Chen Feng chuckled, his eyes filled with unconcealed excitement. "What I want is its most primitive, most frenzied evolutionary data. Look, under absolute survival pressure, the G-Virus discards all useless burdens, transforming the host into the most efficient killing machine. This data is more precious than any simulation we've run in the lab."
On the screen, the color drained from Ricardo's face as he looked at the pile of scrap metal.
"Tanks... get the tanks out here!" He gritted his teeth, forcing the words out. "I don't believe even a cannon shell won't kill you, you bastard!"
Chen Feng raised an eyebrow when he heard this through Sarah's audio equipment.
"Oh? They actually have tanks? It seems Escobar's resources are a lot deeper than I imagined."
Soon, a massive garage at the back of the manor opened, and a T-72 Tank painted in desert camouflage rumbled out, its tracks crushing the lawn with a deafening roar.
The dark muzzle of the 125mm main gun pointed from a distance at the G-II, which was currently tearing at the remains of the armored car.
"Target locked! High-explosive shell! Blow it to hell!" Ricardo shouted frantically, watching through binoculars from a distance.
Boom—!
A deafening cannon blast!
The massive recoil of the shell leaving the barrel made the tank shudder.
The G-II seemed to sense the lethal threat as well. It abandoned its "snack" and looked up sharply.
But it was too late.
The high-explosive shell, traveling at over three times the speed of sound, accurately struck its chest.
In the next instant, a massive fireball erupted, and a terrifying shockwave sent everything in the vicinity flying. Every window in the main building shattered at once.
At the center of the explosion, the G-II's massive body was torn apart and disintegrated in the flames, then blasted into the air, falling to the ground as countless charred fragments.
This time, not even a single intact piece of tissue could be found.
"It's dead... it has to be dead for good this time, right?" a drug trafficker said tremulously.
Ricardo lowered his binoculars and let out a long sigh of relief, collapsing onto the ground as if his strength had been completely drained.
The nightmare was finally over.
However, in the Umbrella command center, Chen Feng shook his head with a playful smile.
"Marcus, believe it or not, it can still stand up."
"Boss, that... that's impossible, isn't it? It's been blown to bits." Marcus looked at the screen filled with shredded meat, finding it hard to believe.
"The core of the G-Virus lies in infinite proliferation and consumption at the cellular level. As long as a single active cell remains, and as long as there's enough biomass around as nourishment..." Chen Feng pointed to the corpses of the drug traffickers on the screen, "it can reconstruct itself."
As if to confirm his words, the charred bits of meat scattered across the sea of corpses suddenly began to twitch as if granted life.
Like countless black snakes, they rapidly converged toward a central point, greedily burrowing into the corpses of the drug traffickers and devouring their flesh.
One, two, ten...
All the corpses on the ground were shriveling up at a visible rate.
And the "core" formed by the convergence of countless meat fragments was frantically expanding, deforming, and reshaping!
This time, what emerged was no longer humanoid.
It was a complete monster over five meters tall, with four thick limbs, a pair of tattered bat wings on its back, and its entire body covered in exoskeletons and overgrown tissue.
Its head no longer showed any human features, possessing only a massive, constantly snapping maw filled with rows of sharp teeth.
The G-III Form was born.
"Roar—!!!"
What it emitted was no longer a roar, but a high-frequency shriek loud enough to pierce eardrums.
The heart Ricardo had just let down instantly sank into an abyss. The expression on his face turned from post-disaster relief to utter despair.
"Fire... keep firing!"
The tank's turret turned again, but the G-III's speed was far beyond their imagination.
Using all four limbs like a giant spider, it instantly reached the front of the tank.
Crack!
The blades on its forelimbs easily pierced the tank's front armor like a hot knife through butter.
Amidst the final screams of the tank crew, the G-III's massive maw opened and bit off the entire turret, making a hair-raising sound of crushing metal as if it were chewing on a biscuit.
The massacre resumed.
This time, nothing could stop it.
...
Time passed, minute by minute.
The gunfire and screams in the manor, intense at first, gradually became sparse and finally vanished completely.
Eight hours later, the sky was beginning to brighten.
The once-luxurious drug lord's manor had been turned into a wasteland and a slaughterhouse of flesh and blood.
And that monster, after devouring all the biomass it could find in the manor, had expanded to nearly ten meters in height. It crashed through the manor walls and, dragging its massive and bloated body, began to wander aimlessly toward the depths of the rainforest.
"Boss, the target has moved out of the preset experimental zone." Sarah's calm voice came through the headset. "According to satellite maps, there is a local village five kilometers in the direction it is heading."
On the large screen in the command center, the red dot representing the G-III was slowly approaching the green area representing the civilian settlement.
Chen Feng looked at the screen and remained silent for a moment.
"How is the data collection going?"
"All physiological data for the G-III Form, including cell proliferation rate, energy conversion efficiency, and genetic mutation direction, has been fully recorded. The conclusion is that it has entered an irreversible, disordered phase of frantic proliferation and has lost its controllability as a biological weapon."
"That's enough." Chen Feng nodded. "This clinical trial ends here."
He couldn't let this monster harm innocent civilians.
This wasn't about being a saint; it was about his bottom line. These drug traffickers were consumables in his eyes, but ordinary people were not.
